My BLW journal

Sunday 17th April
Breakfast was porridge fingers with sultana in it.
Snack was rice cakes with dairylea
Lunch was eaten out-again! Lol! He tried tomato for the first time and demolished it! The only thing left was the skin! Ditto 3 pieces of cucumber and a chunk of cod! He had a fantastic time and the staff were amazed! The looks on peoples faces is brilliant and one man even commented!

Loving this so much! It's brilliant!!!!

Aww hun the little man is doing so well, I love your enthusiasm for it :yay: makes me very excited for the future :)

He's doing so well! Tegan had banana porridge for breakfast yesterday i gave her a preloaded spoon for the first time and she knew exactly where to put it! x

Thanks ladies :) it's absolutely brilliant just to see him go for it :) I get my enthusiasm from him! Lol x

Monday 18th April
Breakfast-pear and orange. He's really enjoying his fruit!!! :)
Snack was rice cake with red pepper hummus. Note to self-red pepper hummus in eye hurts! :(
Lunch was pizza muffins. Seb wasn't particularly impressed with the bread bit, he just pulled the topping off :D and ate it.
Snack was skipped for nap
Dinner was roast beef, cauliflower cheese, mashed potato and carrots. He had so much fun with the mash! The table was practically white :) lol! Lots of chewing and swallowing again (and the evidence was clearly evident this morning) which is good to see and the beef got sucked and gummed!

Tuesday 19th April

Seb's very not well (projectile vomit and horrendous cold :() so I'm playing it by ear today. So far he's not had anything.

Aww hope he feels better soon x

Loving this journal btw - showed it to OH and your enthusiasm has even got through to him and he's now mega pro-BLW!

Thanks ladies. He's had a tiny bit of cucumber and tomato but he's just not himself :(

Wow becky that is fantastic to hear! Brilliant! :)

I'm loving this too. BLW is something I've been fascinated with since before I had Blake and I can't wait to try it.

Was at MIL's yesterday when the subject of weaning came up. I've been protesting that Blake's not interested in food but Shaun bit into a plum, handed it him and not only did he hold it himself but he chomped on it for ages! I tried to take it off him but he cried so Shaun gave it back to him. He was well overdue a feed, it was past his bedtime and I was trying to get Shaun out for ages so we could go home and feed/get ready for bed there. I honestly think the poor baby was starving and teething but now OH and MIL are putting the pressure on to start weaning. I really want to wait though! At least I know he likes plums though!

How old is he ROL? (I can't see sigs) Def don't be pressurised into giving him food, if you want to wait and Blake's happy waiting (despite chomping on something handed to him) then do what you thinks best :) A baby, when handed something (be it food, a toy etc) will usually attempt to put it in their mouth as that's how they feel things and experience things. BLW is about putting the food in babies reach (in a high chair usually) and allowing them to play with and decide whether or not to put it in their mouth. You probably already know this though :D

Thank you all for your positive comments!

Yesterday dinnertime he gave omelette a go with some red pepper slices and seemed to enjoy it. It was the only thing he really showed any real interest in :)

Wednesday 20th April
Breakfast was missed as Seb had a very very bad night and we got up late.
Snack was half a banana shared with one of our friends children at the parent and toddler group I help out at
Lunch was skipped for a three hour nap.
Snack was pitta bread strips and cucumber sticks with red pepper hummus. He loves hummus and the pitta bread went down well again. Cucumber is easily his favourite food!
Dinner was asparagus pasta and he loved it! The asparagus just kept being eaten! He ate three small spears! He enjoys pasta too and this had 3 cloves of garlic and some fresh basil in it too, served with grana padano cheese (a tiny bit) x

We're back on form it seems after yesterday. His new way to indicate he's finished is to hold his arms out to the side and bounce :) Hes really getting the drinking out of a cup (well shot glass) thing now as well! It still gets spilt and played in but he is picking it up easily and drinking a bit!

Some pics from Wednesday-

First two are him eating yellow tomatoes and last three are him with asparagus :)

Thursday 21st April
Breakfast was porridge fingers with sultanas which he's liking a bit more now (the sultanas)
Snack was skipped for a nap
Lunch was eaten in a little cafe in town with one of my friends and she was amazed! As was everyone who walked past him! They all commented positively as he tucked into jacket potato, some cheese on the side and some tomato and cucumber. Cleaning up after is always fun ;)
Snack was skipped for a nap
Dinner was sausage and mash. I removed the skin from his sausage and he had lots of fun with the texture of the sausage. None was eaten but it was thoroughly inspected and squidged :D ditto the mash!

Friday 22nd April
Breakfast was banana cereal. He's not too keen on it now for some reason! Lots of fun though!
Snack was missed for service at church and I knew we were going out for lunch.
Lunch was cheesy tomato pasta with cucumber sticks. He loved it! I got annoyed with my mother though because she kept praising him and complained at me he 'hadn't eaten a lot'! I explained over and over that it's just for fun right now but she's very difficult to communicate with!
Snack was rice cakes with dairylea cheese and pears.
Dinner was missed for a bottle and sleep. :D

I am SO going to give the porridge fingers a try later on :)

Glad its going well hun x

Me too :) lol x I find them bland but Seb likes them!

No I didn't! Makes perfect sense though!

He's 5 months old. I'm planning on starting BLW at the end of May when he will be 6 months and 1 week old. We have a few weddings in May where the inlaws will be having him all day and I would prefer them to just give him milk. I don't want him to be a week or two into BLW and then to send him off to nanny's and confuse her. She's struggling to get her head round BLW and there's always a stash of my niece's petit filous in the fridge which I don't want him to have. Sending him there saying "just give milk" will be easier for everyone all round and I won't be stressing when I'm away from him.

Bought myself an Easter/belated mother's day present with shaun's money yesterday...

It's such a shame this journal won't continue. Hope you'll be back soon Helen x
I weaned Joseph on purees & while he ate quite healthily as a baby, he became a fussy eater & now at the age of 5 we are only just getting him back into experimenting with food & mealtimes being fun. (he got a gastric bug at 14 months which set his feeding habits back & made him almost phobic towards food.)
I think this time around I'll try BLW to see if it makes a difference. I'm planning on breastfeeding & then moving onto BLW from 6 months & threads like this are incredibly interesting & helpful.
