My BLW journal

Has he changed with the amount of milk he has during the day? Since I started weaning last week, charley's upped his milk intake!
He was on 3oz's a couple of weeks ago, prob due to being ill but now he drains 7oz's every 2-3hours! He had 38oz's yesterday during the day and that doesnt count the bottles he had through the night!!

He dropped his first morning bottle (the one he used to have just after waking up) about a month ago which I think he did in readiness for food but apart from that he's, usually, taking the same amount but going a bit longer in between. I say usually because today has been horrific in milk terms. He's barely touched his bottles all day until 3pm when he downed 8oz and bedtime (at 6.30) when he downed another 8oz and wanted more! Lol! Glad Charlies eating better x

Monday 4th April 2011
Breakfast saw him having apple cereal with a banana on the side. He ate quite a bit of it, he's really getting handy with his spoon :) and then promptly fell asleep! Lol!
Snack today was dairylea hard triangle cheese (as opposed to the spreadable) and cucumber which he loved! The cheese got a funny look but he kept at it and the cucumber didn't stand a chance, he loves it!
Lunch today was rice cake (took me ages to find rice crackers with no salt in! I was amazed to see manufacturer adding salt to EVERYTHING!!!) with roasted orange pepper. The pepper was a hit definately and the rice cake was nibbled and sucked at.
I was annoyed with myself today because I've made all our meals in advance, not expecting to be weaning Seb just yet, and most of it is unsuitable :( so I took a trip to tesco and made meatballs in a tomato sauce (again marvelling at the amount of salt added to products (passatta this time)) with thyme, oregano, rosemary and garlic. I served it with pasta and we all had an orange for afterwards! It was brilliant fun and daddy is currently bathing an orange baby :) pics to follow.
Another brilliant day. I'm off to get the BLW cookbook tomorrow!

Meatballs with pasta and tomato sauce followed by an orange. The first three are meatballs-last two orange :)

Oooops meant to add that he's been having a cup all day today with his meals and yes it is wet but he's getting there with it :) he's also appearing to enjoy the water.

I'm making note of things that you've been giving him so I can try it with charley. He's 6 months in 2 weeks but I'm sure he'll be ok now! He had half a rusk, sticks of cucumber and some grapes earlier. He didn't like the grapes, was ok with the cucumber but loved the rusk. I don't want him getting too used to sweet things though so will be limiting rusks.
Can you list afew good things I can try for my little man? x x

Course I can x I've never given Seb rusk x
Roast peppers
Roast/steamed butternut squash
Mango
Melon
Cucumber
Banana
Avocado
Steamed carrots
Steamed broccoli
Steamed cauliflower
Cheese (grated or cubes)
Pear
Plum
Pasta
When he's 6 months;
Chicken
Beef
Pork
Lamb
Egg (hard boiled and chopped up)
Orange
Kiwi
Pineapple
Strawberries
Rice cakes

Hope that's enough for now. I'll be adding more when I have my book :)

With the kiwi, strawberries and pineapple watch for allergic reactions as they are supposed to be the most common ones for allergies.

Thanks so much hun! I'm gonna do a mixture of tw/blw cos I'm worried he won't get enough food but I'll do blw with snacks and lunch then ill introduce dinner in about a mouth! Hopefully charley will take to it as quick as seb x x

Im really enjoying reading this Hun its given me fab ideas for when Tegans ready! x

I'm loving the pic's. Seb is doing so well.

How many meals is he having? x

He's only really having breakfast and dinner as meal type meals and the rest are like snacks at the moment. Mainly because I don't eat lunch (whoops) so i'm on the look out for some lunch ideas.

Also read some more research today that says that BLW helps babies regulate their portion size and because they take their time they know when they're full and stop eating which in turn helps prevent obesity in childhood. I was amazed to read this! I keep researching it so that I have lots of facts to present sceptics and help out mums who are worried/unsure and need help.

Didn't update last night so I'll update yesterday now and today tonight :)

Tuesday 5th April
Breakfast cereal was passed over in favour of some plum and pear this morning. Fine by me though :)
Snack today was cucumber and rice cake with dairylea spreadable on. He's also really getting the hang of his cup. The cucumber definately went down! :) I ended up covered in dairylea :D
Lunch was carrot and butternut squash. I'm going picking up the cookbook today (6th April) so hopefully will get more lunch ideas from in there :)
Seb decided to have a 2 hour nap today so missed snack this afternoon. I stuck a rice cake in a tub and in my bag for after I'd picked DD up from school as we were off to the library. I took his cup with the anyway up lid on and was surprised when he knew how to work it!!!!
Dinner today was chilli and rice but I make a non spicy version for DD so he had a bit of that with a tortilla wrap. The chilli and rice was tried and discarded pretty rapidly. He looked like the texture was horrendous! Lol! The tortilla was tried more often and he seemed impressed! I'm going to make my own bread again for him after Reading all the crap that goes into regular bread!!!!

Wednesday 6th April
Breakfast was apple cereal and he loved it! He's guzzling water too!
I had a hospital appointment today so snack was entrusted to my friends at church. I was told that he had his rice cracker (loved it and wanted more!!!) and some of his orange! He also drank loads of water again. One of my friends (a mum of 5) commented on how easily he's took to it and how well he's doing! So we must be doing something right :D
Lunch was skipped again due to a 2 hour nap! When he woke up he had cheese with cucumber and loved it! The cheese was gone and the cucumber followed suit!
Dinner was chicken with carrot and broccoli. He's still not convinced by broccoli but we're getting there :) the great thing is he still tries it! More water was had and he really seemed to enjoy it! I didn't get my book-I couldn't be bothered to trek into town!!! Lazy mummy! Lol!

He's doing so well!
Tegan had some toast with some dairy free butter today she loved it! was lovely watching her eat! x

I gave Tegan a organix apple rice cake earlier they say 7months plus But i thought they'd be ok she quite enjoyed that too! xx

There the rice cakes I've brought. Haven't tried them yet though but gathered if he can eat rusks no problem then rice cakes should be fine!

I give him tesco organic ones-large. I split them into quarters. The ages on baby food (ie saying rice cakes from 7 months) goes off feeding them purees. BLW doesn't restrict textures etc.
I still haven't given him toast. I don't know what's stopping me tbh. I'm going to make some bread on Friday so maybe I'll give him some then.

Also with rice cakes offer them lots of water as they are really dry! I ate one to try and was amazed at how much it dried my mouth our!

Started reading my BLW book and I have to say please please please, if you can, buy it! It's absolutely fantastic! Highly recommended x
