Ladies doing IVF or IUI - 2015 (9 BFPs!)

There are a lot of appointments with IVF so would be very difficult to go back and forth 3 hours. Sometimes you can be going in every other day or just need to go there for a blood test, its a long way to go for a blood test. Try not to think of the percentages too much, they don't mean anything really, they're just a guess based on previous statistics, nothing concrete. IUI might be worth a try, I asked my consultant if its just the same as trying naturally but he said you are guaranteed an egg with IUI and the sperm are washed or spun (can't remember) so only the strong fighting fit ones get put back in and takes away timing issues xx

Over what kind of time period are the appointments would you say? Throughout a cycle, or at certain points? I wonder if we could take holiday/time off if and when it's needed and stay up there for a certain amount of time...

Yeah, that's natural odds! I think IUI only boosts it if you have sperm issues. I guess it is up to if you want to use it anyway as it may work and isn't intrusive or just go straight to IVF. If you are taking inositol then maybe you could go for IUI with your better eggs? I have just bought some inositol myself so we will see. X

If it's offered, we certainly may as well go for it. I just don't want to rush into anything, if there's something else stopping me getting pregnant that I don't know about. I would also love a natural conception (not that it matters in the end anyway). I wonder how long inositol and all of these other things start to work? Get yourself some spearmint tea as well - it tastes lovely and studies on it look great!

My whole IVF process was 6 weeks. I had to down regulate for two weeks so no need to go to the clinic, then had a scan, had to go back for another scan a week later as wasn't ready to start the stims. Once I could start them I had to go back on day 5 I think for bloods, day 9 for a scan and then scans or bloods every 2-3 days until was ready for collection. Once they do collection you could be going for transfer 2-5 days later. Hope that helps and not too confusing, I know it doesn't make sense sometimes when you haven't done IVF. It used to confuse me so much xx

Even at a hospital close by, how do you manage to get the time off work or arrange around a normal life? My husband and I both work in the same place, I fear having time off together may be a big problem xx

I left work just before treatment started, they do scans early in the morning so that people can go to work after but obv wouldn't be helpful if you're hours away. It is quite a commitment. Your OH wouldn't need the same time off as you, he wouldn't only technically need to be there on collection day and obv would want him there on transfer too I expect xx

For IUI, I made up the hours. I said I was having 'investigations' when pushed and that they were monitoring my hormones. Think I will have to be honest about the IVF though. X

Even the clinic I'm at now is a two hour round trip. They had shorter waiting lists to be seen. I may have to transfer to our nearer hospital in that case, if we proceed with it xx

He also said that it's harder to find the correct dosage (? I'm not sure) for IUI with people with PCOS, so it will need tinkering with as we go along, so we could have failed cycles because of that.

Yes, you very well could. I had two failed cycles - actually, thinking back, they were both my Clomid ones. The ones that progressed were done unmedicated. X

Hey ladies, had my last scan today. Have got to take my trigger at 3am and EC is booked for monday afternoon. Eek im so excited but also very nervous. Can anyone tell me what to expect from EC. Im having sedation as opposed to GA as ive had a bad reaction in the past.

Either fail - or triplets apparently! A one in 25 chance, 1 in 5 for twins. I've twins in my family, and husband has twins and triplets in his so we both always assumed we'd have multiples anyway :-s lol

3am??????????! So you have to wake up in the middle of the night to do it?!
EC is a bit scary but not as bad as you might fear. The prep is ok, cannula not nice then you are out and wake up when its all over feeling a bit sore but knowing how many eggs they got! That's it in a nutshell! Good luck! :)

Yep set my alarm for 2.55 and very bleary eyed took the trigger. Was slightly awkward as I have a 5month old kitten who sleeps downstairs and was excited to see me at that time and wanted to play. Was trying to hold him off with one hand and inject with the other!

Thanks for the lowdown, that was with sedative yea not GA? So nervous x

Egg collection is fine, I had heavy sedation too, was out of it, can't remember anything. Felt fine pretty much as soon as I woke up and was able to leave about an hour after xx

Yes a sedative. I wasn't aware of anything apart from hearing some numbers just before they woke me up. It was the doctor telling the embryologist how many eggs they got!

AF started yesterday morning, or so I thought. But its really light again, I don’t know what’s going on. I’m not supposed to start taking the pill until I’ve had a proper bleed as we need the lining to be thin again before starting the cycle. But if I start the pill too late the eggs will start growing again! Left a message with the nurses and will see what they say!

I really hope they start getting back to you blueflower. All this concern is not good. You need answers!
Af finally arrived for me today and it's a painful one!!! On the plus side baseline scan is now all booked in for Thursday and finally we get our shot at Ivf!! Xc

Sorry its all so confusing Blueflower. I really hope they can advise you and that you can start the treatment you have been waiting for a long time now. TTC is a lot of waiting and so frustrating when its the only thing you think about..

I am in the opposite situation and wont stop bleeding. Had a very heavy AF for 4-5 days that started last Tuesday. I think it was heavy since I have been on Provera for 3 months continuously ( no periods ) so perhaps it all had to come out. Bu I am still spotting a little ( more of a brown color ) and a few crams today.

I started the pill last Wednesday but is it normal to still be spotting 7-8 days after AF or should I call the nurse?

xx

That's good CDA. I would call them just to check MarieIsabella.
Nurse called back and says to start the pill after 24 hours of proper heavy bleeding. What if I don't have any? It just doesn't seem to want to come out but I saw it on the screen weeks ago! If I get another nothing AF I will have to ring them again! It's so weird!

CDABaby - my withdrawal bleed was very painful and heavy. It also lasted 10 days but all was fine.

Had my EC yesterday. Had a bad reaction to the sedation and was very sick afterwards. My appointment was at 1.30 and I didnt leave until 7pm with an hour drive home. Exhausted and feeling poorly. We got 28 eggs and 21 have fertilised. Going back Saturday for transfer! X

Sorry you felt poorly Poispinner, any better today? I felt dreadful after the sedation for one of mine too due to low blood sugar. That's an amazing amount! Are they concerned about OHSS at all? You should have some good blastos by Saturday! :)

Great with all those eggs Poispinner, never heard of that many :)! Sorry you feel sick though and hope you're back to normal soon.

Called nurse about my bleeding and she said normal when starting the pill. If not settled or if it get worse I will call back.
