Ladies doing IUI or IVF - 2016 (11 BFPs so far!)

I agree, when we've been ttc for so long and done so many things and spent thousands of hours googling it's actually quite hard to sit back and hand over to someone else that knows what they're doing, and they really do know what they're doing :) I remember second guessing ivf timings all the time and the same with my iui but we have to trust the experts.

On that note, has anyone on here had an iui? I'm spotting slightly, red not brown, assume that's fairly normal 2dpiui?

Yeah you've summed that up perfectly syd, I think that's exactly how we feel. I've tried so hard after loads of research not to question the experts. We must be so annoying to them! I hope my GP doesn't think I'm a pain in the butt tomorrow asking for bloods!

I've never had an IUI syd so I'm not sure. Have you found anything on dr google? Xx

Even though we need to trust them it's still fine to pester for blood tests :) Seems to be fairly normal and has stopped now so I'm not going to worry about it x

Great news Millie, hope you'll have a good number of blastos.

MrsS, trust your body...i don't blame you for feeling anxious but I'm sure you'll do great coming off the progesterone.

Syd - I think May did IUI?

AF came early for me, i hoped it was IB but i do remember having earlier signs of ovulation. I'm going to call the clinic in the morning and get the ball rolling. Got to go for 3d SIS and Dummy ET - Are these painful??

MrsS, if 100's and 1000's of other women at your clinic have done exactly the same as you and the pregnancy still continued then there is no reason to worry :)
I do find it odd that others continue it for 12 weeks... I wanna know whats up with that as I'm already fed up of the Pessaries and injections!! It'll be worth it if everything goes to plan of course though. I'll put up with them for 12 weeks for a baby lol.

MrsLaw, sorry about AF, hopefully ivf works for you though! I don't think I ever had a 3d SIS but I had 2 dummy ETs which were both under sedation as they did them during Egg Collection. I assume it's no different to the actual Embryo Transfer which I did have once last time, my cervix is awkward so it didn't go well, more uncomfortable than painful though. Kinda glad my transfer is under sedation this time, easier for everyone that way!

I don't know what a 3D sis is but my et (didn't have a dummy one) was absolutely fine. You cramp a bit when they insert the catheter and that's it. For me it was mildly uncomfortable at most.

Hi ladies,

I never had a dummy run either but I can honestly say I didn't feel a thing with ET. Once the speculum was in I felt nothing. Easier than a smear!

I've been to see my GP today who's given me another sick line. I feel much better knowing I don't have the added stress of my work. He's done my bloods too to check all my levels so hopefully they'll be back tomorrow afternoon!

Millie how are you feeling about tomorrow? Syd are you doing okay?

Hope everyone else is okay xx

An SIS Hycosy is basically like a HSG but using saline to see the shape and lining of the uterus. I'm hoping it won't be too painful as they are not checking my tubes

With AF it was bitter sweet. Wanted a bfp but at least now that it's started I can start the ivf process

MrsS, that's great they signed you off :D
Get plenty of rest!

Transfer is Wednesday, not tomorrow. :) I'm not looking forward to the recovery from sedation, I'm only just starting to feel human! I've still got some pain but I think it's these progesterone injections. So I'm kinda nervous but I have acupuncture tomorrow so maybe that will help relax me.
Waiting for the hospital to call to let us know how things are progressing (please all 8 still be looking good) and also a time for Weds!

They just called my husband, transfer is at 10 on Wednesday. My heart sank when he said there is only 2 at top quality right now there is a few others too but they aren't as good. I know it only takes one but I'm so scared as this is our last shot for a long while. :(

I've been doing my pessaries at 10 morn and eve so I guess I should call and find out what they want me to do about that

Hi MrsLaw, hoping to reassure you, I had a HyCosy and if the SIS is similar it was really ok. It didn't hurt at all, it's a tiny bit uncomfortable if anything but no more than mild af cramps. The only pain I had was afterwards in the car home feeling bloated but that wasn't bad... if there is no liquid with the SIS its probably not the same anyway. But all in all...pretty straight forward! Whats the difference between SIS and HyCosy?

Oh Millie, try not to worry. You all reassured me that having a couple of great quality was better. Both of them could be your babies, now and in the future! The others might also catch up. Sorry I got the date wrong, I don't know what date I'm on! I took my pessaries at 10 and 10 too but my ET was at half 12. Could you bring it forward a bit over the next 2 nights and do it at 9am before you leave? I was told to definitely do mine before ET but obviously your time clashes. Maybe just give them a call xx

I guess it is still more than we had last time at this point and I don't think the last one was top grade either. I just hope they continue nicely.

I was doing them at 10 and 10 cause last time I did them around 8 and it would clash with my husband getting ready for work - we only have one bathroom! I don't mind if I have to do it while I'm there at the clinic, I'll give them a call and see what they think though

Hey Millie, is that blastocyst transfer?

I've done ivf four times now, and only ever had one embryo described as top quality. That was the cycle I got pregnant :) and that was a 3 day transfer as well.

Don't despair yet xx :)

Oh thanks! Yes I do feel a bit more relaxed now. I did have some cramping and bleeding for a while after my HSG so hoping it's better than that. The Sis and Hycosy are the same thing I think :/ It's an ultrasound that uses saline water, but a HSG is an X-ray using dye. That's as much as I know lol. Too many terms I need to get my head around now

Tinselcat, I'm not sure? only have the info hubby gave me. When he came home I quizzed him more and he said their exact words were 2 top grade and a few others that aren't as good. Helpful lol.
Aren't all day 5 embryos blastocysts?

Yep I just couldn't do the maths if it had been 3 or 5 days since your egg collection :)

I guess part of the purpose of waiting until day 5 is the embryologists get to see which ones are developing best, and now it's clear there are two front-runners :)

How many are you going to get transferred?

Not all day 5 transfers are blasts. I had two transferred on day 5, one was a blast and one was day 4 compacting morula that they thought was just slightly slow. Day 5 blast is preferred though.

Ah okay, so they could be blasts by then? I guess maybe they'll tell me before transfer tomorrow :)

Only allowed one as I'm 27, wish we could try 2!

Technically they should be blastocysts by day 5 but like syd says, not always. If they are top grade I would assume they will be blasts by then. Mine we're early blastocysts so couldn't be graded.
I was under the age for allowing 2 embryos but they still let me have two, I was a private patient though and I think they give you more say. I am not sure if you are nhs or private.
Lots of luck xx
