***** January 2015 Mummy's *****

I certainly didn't dilate without noticing it.

I noticed every single, horrible, painful moment of the 36h it took to get me to 5cm.

Lol. I was very slow dialating last time too. They say its often a lot easier second time around. I know that my cervix never went back to being fully closed. I was checking it to chart fertility and it seems to be permently a good 1cm dialated already. Hoping that means it will be at least 1cm easier this time.

The MW had a student with her last visit and was telling her about my labour. She said I was doing really well and had already gotten to 4 cm when she arrived then I really slowed down. I was thinking, er, I think you forgot I was already in labour for 24 hrs before I called you!

Bunny, I was at home for 36h (that's how long I was timing it, may have even been a few hours more?) and I still had another almost 15h when I went in despite being half way dilated?

I didn't cope well with early labour, I was dehydrated and exhausted. Got from 5cm to 6cm in the birthing centre and that took 3 hours so then I had to move and be assisted [drip and had my waters broken]

Everything up until that point I loathed. Once the drip was in and the waters gone it all started to ramp up and I was over the moon. At last something was happening. Loved from 7cm - delivery. Best part of labour by far for me and I adored pushing. It was so empowering.

I was fine with early labour, was quite relaxed. My mum had long labours and I had prepaired myself for it being long. I think it really helped that I made a point of eating and drinking early in labour, this time I think I will try even more because you do get to the point where you can't face anything later on. The only part I struggled a bit was after about 34hrs. I was getting exaughsted and not making much progress. And the MW was getting nervous. She started talking about going to hospital (it was a home birth). Then I just wanted to lie down and sleep and forget about labour for a while. Amazingly I did manage a small nap which helped a bit. I agree about pushing it was amazing! It was painful but the pain was totally drowned out by how amazing and powerful it felt. On the whole 38hrs of labour was okay but I couldn't have coped the same for much more. After a few more hrs I wouldn't have had much left. I don't mind having another long labour but I am hoping for it to be a bit shorter. 24hrs would be just fine, lol.

Ouch 24 hours plus sounds exhausting!!! My induction started about 11am and ds arrived at 2.32am but my contractions only really started properly about 6pm, so 8 and a half hours in labour. I'd be happy with a few hours less :)

Yeh I was surprised that I was 2cm, but really happy I didn't have to get the pessarys! I am still waiting for a place on labour ward as it seems to be really busy at this hospital, but hoping the sweep will be doing its job as I seem to have lost my plug! I have had quite abit of pressure for the last few weeks but thought nothing of it, but chuft that it's as far on at 37 weeks without too much intervention. Just looking forward to baby now! Hoping it will go faster once waters have been popped. X

Sorry Nat, I hope my comment didn't come across as glib or offensive? I didn't intend it to :/ 36 hours sounds horrendous. I sort of meant that a lot of people are already 1 cm dilated when labour starts due to the pressure of baby having engaged beforehand. I know it can take a lot longer for things to dilate beyond that.

Ah kiwi 2cm already is v exciting!!!

I'm so envious of the natural births- I'm really hoping she does come early as I'd love to experience it.

Although saying that I had to breathe through a particularly painful Braxton hicks in the bath and my foofy daggers are unbearable at times, so I'm not sure how I'd cope with proper contractions and dilating!!!!

Not at all Ceecee.... lol

I was just such a wimp and completely unprepared. This time at least I know to take some paracetamol and actually use my tens machine.

Just in from the theatre and we had such a lovely time. James is all bunged up and coldy though so doubt I'll get a peaceful night. Going to take that duvet day tomorrow.

Hope all is well kiwi?

Just caught up, busy few days! Hope all is well kiwi, looking forward to hearing an update x

Hope you do manage to get some rest today Nat, work sound horrific for you.

I ended up taking a trip to labour ward on Tuesday after I had a gush of fluid and very regular BH - I was fairly certain it wasn't anything to worry about but equally didn't want to dismiss it and then regret it if anything went wrong, so spoke to the midwife triage line who suggested I go up to labour ward. Monitor and speculum examination were fine, although was very odd watching the monitor which confirmed my BH were coming every few minutes! MW didn't seem concerned though, and settled later in the evening. Just absolutely shattered now and so ready to finish work - 8 working days left....

So jealous of everyone finishing work.

James had me up every hour snorting and moaning with his cold so I didnt even feel guilty emailing in today. They are getting their pound of flesh.

Glad all was ok Spallerina, that must have been really scary. My waters never fully went with James. Just a trickle and his head then acted as a plug so it's worth checking out any water loss?

Going to nip out to M&S for goodies and then we're watching movies and relaxing today

I am SO jealous of your duvet day Nat!

I had extremely painful trapped wind last night (so glamorous!) and then threw up a lot this morning so I am feeling rather sorry for myself but had to come into work as am spending 2 hours with my manager later on trying to finalise a project I need to complete before I go off on mat leave.

Snowing up here though so there's always the (extremely slim) chance we'll get sent home! x

Edinburgh - snowing up a storm but annoylingly seems to just be turning to slush on the ground at the moment. Booooo!

Taboo I had the trapped wind pains lastnight too!!!!
Was so bad I wanted to cry and then I started whimpering silently to myself wondering how am I ever going to cope with contractions hahaha xxx

That's exactly what I was like Yellowglass lol I'm pleased Im not the only pathetic one with it! (To be fair it's bloomin' painful!)

I went through a hot bath, remegel, peppermint tea, rubbing tummy clockwise, laying on left side none of which helped and then after further extensive googling got on all fours with my head lower than my bum and wiggled my hips from side to side - and that did the trick! (At that point I told my DH if I saw him anywhere near me with his phone trying to get a picture I would KILL him!)

Am getting some windeze after work today as that had rave reviews online! x

Hope all is moving nicely for you now Kiwi xxx sounds like you are doing great xx

I can't wait to experience labour and everything that goes with it :) Had really bad period pain like cramps on and off through last night and the night before was getting a bit concerned but said I'd wait it out and see :) All good today so far and plenty of wriggles :)

Eurgh, trapped wind is horrible. So painful and so difficult to relieve sometimes.

God I wish I had a duvet day today. Sounds lovely right now.

I still think it seems so weird that time is flying by as fast as it is. I swear we were only just posting our 13 week scan dates up in the tri1 thread and here we are talking about labour!

I had trapped wind a few weeks a go and sobbing in bed!!! pathetic I know. I feel everyone's pain as its horrible and its not like you are going to get any sympathy of OH.

This is a good frame of mind to be in. I stayed calm all the way through my labour and it was an amazing experience :) :) can't wait for this one to arrive

I wasn't super scared about labour last time but I wasn't exactly looking forward to it. It surprised me that I acctually loved the whole experience and can't wait to do it again.
