Closed - old IVF thread

Thanks Lou :)

I'll ask my OH to grab some Max strength paracetamol while I'm in theatre. We've got normal, but max will probably be more appropriate!? :oooo:

I'm excited too  But not 'yipee' excited.... More tentative... like :shhh::dance::shhh: Each step at a time hey... And whatever happens we can only do what we can do. (stating the bloomin obvious but you know what I mean!)

I think they gave me 500mg tabs but I don't know if that is max or not. They'll probably give you some in your IV so you not need to take some for a few hours :)

I love the EC, it's my favourite bit! :good:

It is a bit scary, especially if you haven't been in hospital for a procedure before, but just keep your arse covered and it'll all be ok ;)

What time are you in?

Sending big hugs to you, Scotch andporkpie :hugs: xx

Rea, Good luck for EC tomorrow xx

Hey girls, hope its ok to join you in here as Im about to start on the IUI process. Ive got my hormone profiling appointment on the 23 August. If all seems ok I should come away with a nasal spray to ' turn off my natural cycle'. I was told I was to take this for 2 to 3 weeks then I will get bloods and a scan. She gave me a date for this scan now which is 11 September, which is 20 days. The purpose of this us to check my levels and that I have a thin lining from
using the nasal spray. Thing is I dont have a cycle and my levels are always low and lining is constantly thin and has been since last February. So Im basically thinking can they not just go with starting the injections now? I know it sounds impatient but I feel Ive waited so long I just want to start? Also if she said the nasal spray is between 2 and 3 weeks why the appointment for 3 weeks should I not go in at 2 and if all is well go then. Thing is Ive constantly had to push this unit and Im wondering now if Im just being overly impatitent . What do you think?

Ha Ha! I'll try ;)

I'm in for 10am and supposed to be starting procedure at 10.30. I'm feeling ok about the procedure thanks (?) to the fact that I had an operation in December so I know the drill. The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is making sure I don't getting constipated  I've taken some pills tonight to clear the way before all the anaesthesia drugs tomorrow :) hee hee Plus I'm doing my best to remain positive while not taking things for granted :) I shall look forward to my next post letting yas know how many eggies they managed to retrieve :)

Hi Laura,
I had a similar (ish) situation where I wanted to start earlier as, as far as my cycle was concerned, I could. The reason they were inflexible with us was to do with their own appointment schedule. I didn't use the spray so I'm not sure what the typical time frame is for it... I think it's always worth asking for clarification though. x
ps good luck :) x

Can I add a question about the nasal spray?

I have to start taking it on day 21 of next cycle, but she never said anything about us having to be careful for the next few weeks. What happens if I OV about day 14 (and by some miracle) get pg, would the nasal spray cause problems?

I know its unlikely, but I was just wondering, will need to ask when go to pick up all my drugs, but thought one of you IUI/IVF experts might know )

Thanks for your reply Rea I think that what you have said about their schedulung appointments is actually the reason for the delay. They spend blooming ages doing everything. Im going to question it I think on the 23 rd when I get the hormone profiling as I want to start as soon as possible as Ive waited long enough.

Laurat, my appt for the lining check is 18th sept, so I would only be on nasal spray for about 12 days then (depending on when AF act shows up), so 20days seems a bit long?

Yeah it seems too long to me too Skeando Im definetly going to question it! Sorry cant help with your question. Do you actually have the nasal spray now them and you havd to start it cd 21 also is the nasal spray supposed to give me an af?

You get constipated Rea? I always go the other way and get the runs before the procedure, or maybe the hcg :eh:, because it smelt like other people had the runs too when I went to the toilet.

Wet wipes come in handy :)

Really, all the best - I hope it's a good day for you xx

Hiya Laura :good:

I can totally understand your impatience but it's one of those situations where the clinic like to get all the boxes ticked and you should probably just try and suck it up :)

It'd be typical for you to suddenly ovulate if you demanded they skip the DR bit.

Hey Skeando

You might be on the nasal spray for a shorter amount of time, but I reckon there is a much bigger chance that you might not have DR'd properly by your scan and have a small delay whereas by the time Laura goes in after 20 days she'll be very unlikely to have any further delays xx

Good luck rea !!!! Egg collection :) looking forward to ur update tomo :)

Laurat,

I have to phone when I get my AF to organise to collect nasal spray and get told how to do the injections (hopefully AF should come later this week, but you just know the one month I want it over and done with it will take forever to appear).

The nasal spray is to switch off your cycle, so I don't think it would bring on AF.

LauraT - I was on DR nasel spray for 21 days with my cycle, and I felt I was ready and done wayyy earlier than that, one of my questions for my failed cycle review (on the 11th sept , same as your DR test), is can you be too down regulated , which could affect your chances of pregnancy in the cycle? I am very responsive to hormone changes, I'm a right mood swinger...ha

Yes you need to have a bleed during DR before you continue, Mine was two days early, so not long after I started DR, they say you can expect it about 5 days late mostly, but as long as your lining is nice and thin by scan. I think I would prefer to start on cd1 myself too...that was the bit that dragged, but once you got there , the rest of the process, other than the 2WW really flew by. Good luck, great we have another one cycling now.
Don't forget to start drinking about 2-3L of water each day, will help with DR headaches, and hope you don't get too many hot flushes/night sweats.

Are you on Synarel spray? (can't remember the spelling now!),as I thought I would never run out of it as it was always full and heavy, turns out it's a weighted bottle !!! (Thought I would have a whole bottle left , as I had paid for two, and I did use nearly two!!)

Rea - Wishing you loads of luck and Eggys today ..............can't wait to hear how you got on later

Lou - Hows DR going? how does it work when doing it via a pill? does it give you the same symptoms, whens the next checkup/ check you have dr'd / milestone for you?

GG - How are you going? where are you at now with your cycle?

I got a tax rebate! for £410 , I really need a new oven as ours is broken, we just use the top bit, think hubby is a bit miffed I'm not going to use it for one... been waiting abot a year now, but I have the freezing costs from our overdraft and I don't feel comfy not using it to soak up some of that, will put us in a much better place... So really pleased and perfect timing....

You get constipated Rea?

It's not something I've suffered with normally but after my operation in December I did. Not through anxiety but through side effects of the pain killers. And it wasn't just a bit of discomfort, it was horrendous. 3 days without going and 24 hours of pain and cold sweats, followed by heamoroids and the runs (which stung like mad). TMI I realise  I was on co-codamol which is a bad one for that side effect so I'm pretty sure I won't experience anything like December this time :) But I'm also doing everything I can to make sure :gun:

Ask them if you can take lactulose syrup, It was the only thing that sorted me after my c-section and it's brilliant, just a sugery super sweet syrup, but literally a few hours after taking, off you went no probs..

JJ - congrats on the rebate :) That is a it of luck!

I just take a pill in the morning for my DR and besides having a very short fuse and the constant spotting, I hadn't really had any other symptoms until this morning.

I've woken up to hard lumpy breasts today like I sometimes get near AF :eh: I thought that the levels of hormones just stayed as consistent as possible but maybe they increase overall so my symptoms will get stronger? I dunno.

I only have to wait until the 20th for my scan, so a week? It is going quickly now and I have so much to do this week getting everything ready!

You can't DR for too long on drugs that impact your pituitary in terms of you stimulating well. In fact, the more DR you have, the better you should respond to minimum stim drugs because your system has gone cold turkey for longer.

That said, you can be on them for too long in terms of recovering your natural cycle after treatment, especially if you are older because your pituitary might be a bit lazy.

I would consider a more natural cycle next time if you have good natural cycles, like norestisterone/cetrotide/menopur.

Rea - gosh I didn't know that was a risk. I'm often constipated, I think I suffer hormonally. Luckily I didn't get anything like that after EC, not that I noticed anyway. I am a bit scared I won't go for 9 months when I get pregnant though

hi girls,
not long got back from clinic. feeling a bit sort of sickly but not in pain at the moment. a bit light headed and tired..
we have 11 eggs, currently being spermed I imagine! They said they'd call me tomorrow morning to let us know how many had fertilised.
I'm going to have a lie down... catch you later x x

Fantastic news. Hope you heal quickly but don't push yourself too much too soon as well
