Baby Led Weaning

Thea has developed a taste for pumpkin bread. I wasnt sure if she would like it but she wolfed it down! I spread some low fat cream cheese on it for her.

She has tried so many things now, its great! The only thing so far she wasnt keen on was peas, i put them in an omlette and she ate the egg and spat the peas back out lol.

Im so happy with how well she is doing :cheer:

Awwww!!!

I love your avatar by the way Mel!!

Hi everyone, The BLW is going great here, I hardly think about it anymore as it is just a part of our life. Leorah eats absoutely everything including curry and spicy things! Her pincer grip is developing too, I swear the BLW has improved her dexterity, she has very nimble fiingers  I have got quite a few food recipes that I will definitely get around to posting on the other thread. I feel so lame saying this but I am always busy nowadays and don't have much time to get on here for more than a few mins.

Hope you are all well, kisses from us

aww hun

glad to hear all is well. mmm... curry! dread to think what those nappies would look & smell like :rotfl:

Hi Girls, I have been facinated by this thread on BLW......... all your babies seem so happy doing it but I don't really understand the basics of it.......
can someone explain it to me.... Grace isn't reading for weaning yet but I would like to be prepared

thanks

hey Fiona, BLW basically allows your LO to go at their own pace. It is said that when your LO is around 6 months (sometimes earlier) they gain the ability to chew and push food to the back of thier mouth on their own without the aid of spoons etc. Have a look at the attached site it will better explain then I can...

I think it's fab eventhough I do give Otis some mashed up food as well as it can be difficult to prep lots of finger foods so I usually do a combo of finger food with some roughly mashed foods. It is truely rewardoing to see your LO chomping away on a strawberry until it has completely disappeared or eating one of my home made burgers or 'turkey balls'. I think it helps their coordination a lot as well.

hey ladies

what food did you all start your babies on? as she has hit 6 months we are starting to have breky each day, but tbh alice doesn't seem overly bothered by the idea. ive tried rucks, banana, ive even tried feeding her baby rice off a spoon, and she really doesn't seem overly intrested in it all. the only thing she shows much of an intrest in is melon, but i don't want her to have that very day, as its more juice than solids (if that makes sense?).

what did everyone start giving their bubbas?

my goodness.... can't beleive Alice is 6mths!!

Well my dear, Arianna started on toast, melon, strawberries, some of the baby cereals.
Arianna also loves the french cinnamon toast.

Hopes just started feeding herself with her fork and spoon, shes getting so good at it now im so proud of her

A friend of mine read "Families and how to survive them" by John Cleese and apparently it's only when they are 6 months old that babies realise that they are seperate from their mothers. No idea how that was measured but there you go. It's interesting from a BLW point of view that when the child is ready to start eating solids developmentally that it is mentally also ready to start weaning itself off milk.

I LOVE THIS IDEA!

...but am slightly confused.....
do you not even begin with the baby rice and vegetable purees. Do you just start with rice cakes/ finger foods from the beginning?

Just had a weaning class with a nursery nurse today and she had never even heard of it, tried to enlighten her with the best of my knowledge (not much at the moment) and she kinda turned her nose up!! Makes me want to try it even more and go back and tell her it worked!!
I've got about a month until Evie will be ready so have a bit of time to gem up, any links you successful ladies can provide would be gratefully received. :)

I was just going to ask the same thing Flufy, was going to start Ruby tomorrow on baby rice, and have made some carrott, sweet potato, apple and pear purees for the frezzer today-was going to try these for a week or two then go with BLW but is this right?? Do you do finger foods straight away?? NOW I am confused, and panicking slightly, I thought I had it all sorted in my head  :x

You do whatever works best for you and Ruby hun!

Thea didn't like purees at all she wouldnt entertain being spoon fed by mammy lol. BLW worked for us because of that.

My advice would be to adapt things to suit you. I know that Daggers has always fed Otis mashed foods as well as taking a BLW approach so i see no reason at all why you can incorporate the two methods.

i did purees for 1 month then went onto BLW

Thanks girls, think I'll do a bit a puree right at the start and then go on to finger foods after that.
I'm really looking foward to this, was chomping on some strawberries last night and so wanted to give Evie one! Only one month to go and we'll be there....

Let us know how you get on Ruby's mummy, I'm right behind you!!!

Gave her some baby rice at 11am, she wolfed it down, it was so cute and funny!! We sat her in her bumbo and I fed her, she was chomping her little mouth up and down, then swallowing it and opening her mouth for more!!! She ate the whole lot.

Got purrees in freezer, did carrots, sweet potato, apple and pear last night, so going to try her with them all over the next few weeks, then BLW from then on :cheer: :cheer:

I am so excited!! its so much fun!! And to think I was dreading it too

Going for a highchair for her this weekend :cheer:

yay zoe im so happy for you!!!!!!!!!!
