*** August mummies 2019 ***

Lucky you @Anna@work !!
I have to be careful all the time! But I had forgotten it in the beginning of my pregnancy and ordered a big baguette with mozzarella (can't have it), prosciutto (nope), tomatoes (still nope) and pesto (that might have been the only "safe" thing on it, if all the ingredients were washed beforehand). When I was halfway done, the oh looks at me with big eyes and said, you can't eat any of that!!! We almost started a fight in the café since I was starving and wanted to finish my meal! Eventually I let it go and didn't finish it. I was so dissapointed but knew he was right... Honestly, I'm 35 soon and don't know how I haven't caught it yet! I miss my salads though....
Kitana do t be so harsh on yourself ! Mozzarella is safe in pregnancy as long as it’s from a packed brand like Galbani etc. Tomatoes are safe as long as they’re washed so have plenty of it at home If you don’t trust the sandwich places!
But go for salads etc ! Just wash it a lot ! :)
All soft cheeses that are made with pasteurised milk from enormous factories are safe like ricotta etc....

Just thread hopping to say my doctor said not to worry about the soft cheese rules at all. She said it's generally all pasteurised now and produced so much more cleanly than it was in the past that the risks are basically nothing. The last case of listeria from cheese happened in 1982 or something so before most of us were born. She also pointed out that French women eat soft cheese and these is no statistical difference in birth outcomes. Finally she said particularly for people feeling sick it's important to eat what you fancy so you can eat at all. So please don't be hard on yourself!

Why no prosciutto?
I would have fought her in the lunchroom too. Nobody's taking my mozzarella from me (and it's not supposed to be an unsafe cheese from what I've read). Blue cheese and cheese with active mold in it, or soft cheese like brie, but mozzarella isn't supposed to be an issue.

Raw cured meat is apparently for listeria but the nhs webpages says if it’s written “ready to eat” ok the packaging it’s ok.
And my midwife told me freeze it for 24h and then you can eat it defrosted the next day...!
Can eat mostly everything really except the best cheeses on earth :-p

Haha this convo made me laugh. My hubby is a total cheese fiend...I call him Wallace lol.

Luckily I don't like the stinky cheeses but I have had soft cheeses....all of those mentioned. Haven't had any of the cold meats like salami etc unless on a pizza and cooked through as says that's fine.

I think if you half way through it in reality crack on what's done is done. Think how much stuff ladies have in the first trimester when they don't know they are pregnant and most have perfectly healthy babies x

I can’t beleive I have my 12 week scan Tuesday afternoon. I’m both excited and nervous.
We’ve started to let more family know, but then fully understand that we’re waiting for the scan too.
My other half seems more in pregnancy mode too as he’s speaking about it more. Telling more people and asking questions.

Like today I said my stomach felt dodgy and he was like stomach stomach or bump? As i potentially have ulcerative colitis so my stomach is easily upset at times but it was just related to that.

I can’t wait to start buying things and put them to one side as I’m really skepital about buying anything right now.

It's making me want to eat all the things we're talking about at least.
Love the differentiation of 'stinky cheese', apparently that's how you know it's bad for the baby? xD
Anyways I know so little about all this that having other expectant mother's thoughts, opinions and experiences here has been super calming and helpful. PLEASE all keep talking about mundane things that nobody else needs to hear about- I need it!

How exciting hearyou!

Mine is tomorrow. Honestly I think I'm terrified. I feel so worried they will find something wrong. I really hope the scan helps me relax and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy.

We are visiting my family in 2 weeks so have to hold out until then I made OH promise we could tell my rents first as we live up the road from his and I feel like they always find out everything first. I wanted to keep this special for my mum.

Prosciutto crudo is cured not cooked, that's why. I'm not immune to toxoplasmosis and listeria can be dangerous if consumed when pregnant.
I do check the label if it's pasteurized or not. I wash my veggies well at home but tend to avoid lettuce since there are so many nooks and crannies, I'm afraid to miss a spot. I know I sound harsh with myself, but to give it up for 6 more months won't be the end of the world!
I have been getting loads of spd pain since 2 days and wonder of I should do some core exercises, I completely stopped exercising since I found out I was pregnant due to the fatigue but I feel so bad about it now! I used to do crossfit when I was pregnant with my daughter and felt great, now I feel like a shapeless blob.

On the bright side, my mother and I are going to Disneyland in Paris tomorrow after a last minute reservation! Can't wait to see the look on my daughter's face!
Good evening everyone!x

Looking forward to hearing about this weeks scans ladies, mine is still 4 weeks away! :( . Glad I had my early scan.

Anyone else suffering from what feels like a lump in your throat? My nauseous feelings have eased off but this throat feeling makes me feel icky, bit like I’m being strangled! X

Hey Emma!
My nausea is still awful but it’s a new thing for me too to have that lump on the throat thing!
When I saw my gp she told me to take gaviscon (I didn’t tell her about the throat thing, just that I was retching a lot...)
I haven’t bought any yet but will try from tonight. I believe it might be because of acid reflux (secondary to the nausea)?

It’s like everything I eat always left some leftover in my throat :/

Maybe give some gaviscon a try? It’s safe to use in pregnancy.

Thanks Anna, might give that a go! It really isn't a nice feeling is it, it's becoming more constant for me now. I haven't met my midwife yet, hopefully I will be on Friday and I will see what she says about it. I did have a google search and it showed other pregnant women who have suffered with this. x

Hi folks.

So I saw the GP last Thursday and was signed off for a few weeks to try and help me manage the pregnancy anxiety etc.

Still getting really bad nausea, but not throwing up quite as much. Currently sat on the floor of the kitchen telling myself it will all be ok. Got half way through putting the groceries away before it hit.

12 week scan on Friday, so something to look forward to.

Oh and I am immune to toxo also, I’ve had exposure to it at some point in the past, unsurprising as I’ve always had cats. Midwife told me to still be careful though, so husband is on litter tray duty regardless :). Not too worried about the diet stuff as a vegan as I’ve already cut all the fun out, and most of the dangerous stuff went with it ;)

Evening ladies!!

I've got my scan in the morning at 9!! Hoping everythings ok as I've just started bleeding again bright red.
So I'm hoping I don't get anything else and it's all ok tomorrow and little Nugget is nice and safe and tucked in.

How's everyone else feeling at this point? My nausea has stopped and I can finally eat and drink again lol xx

The lump in the throat /constant feeling of needing to clear it is sinusitis! I get it bad in pregnancy! Just another thing to add to the list

Is there anything that helps with it? It’s constant for me now :( x

Oh no! Hope it's not too bad Nicipoo! Let us know how you fared! Best of luck tomorrow!x

Hi ladies my phone is being a pain can't seem to upload scan pic.

But anyway all good. Everything fine. Baby was sooooo active somesaulting all over the place took her a while to get the pics. Lots of wiggling of the scanner on my belly to make baby turn over it was hilarious.

Measured slightly ahead so I've been bumped up to 12+6 giving me new due date of 30th July!!! Don't kick me out August mummies!!

I'm classed high risk because of my lletz treatment so I will have a follow up at the hospital...she just said next available appt. Will come through in the post but got booked in straight away for my 20 week scan so that's good.

All very real now and fear has finally turned into excitement! Xx

I had lletz treatment last year. I've not been spoken to regarding it really. It's in my notes. Do you have to have additional scans? X
