Thank you for the reassurance ladies x I'm due to see the consultant in a few weeks so will ask him if I should have the diabetes test earlier.

Elspeth and Hoping4rainbow- glad you get to see the midwife still, be nice to see them weekly x

Enjoy the weekend lovelys x

I have the maxi cosi pebble car seat for baby - I paid £130 I think in 2014 and it has done for both children and will be doing this next one too and I fully expect it to last for any more children I have too. All the fabric comes off so you can put it in the washing machine so it genuinely still looks like brand new.

When I got it I knew I wanted to get the maxi cosi 2way pearl extended rear facing seat for my daughter so I bought the 2way fix base. Important info: do not buy the family fix as this doesn't fit the 2way pearl. Just for arguments sake say you thought you didn't want an extended rear facing, the maxi cosi pearl which is the next seat after the pebble and is only front facing costs around £180, the 2way pearl costs £200 so it's not like you are making some massive saving so even if you only kept them rear facing until they were two it would still be worth that extra £20 I think. The 2way fix base costs £190, the family fix £175. The difference is that maxi cosi don't make it clear that the 2way base is the only one that is completely flexible for later.

So I have two 2way fix bases and two 2way Pearls and they've been great, by daughter (28 months is forward facing now although my partner started that and it angered me as I always wanted to keep them rear facing as long as possible but now she knows different she would complain) and my son is rear facing. I will be buying a 3rd 2way base for the pebble for this baby.

Hi Rose - you sound very car seat savvy! This is an area that just overwhelms me as obviously it is a big deal to get it right! Does the maxi cosi pebble fit onto the 2way base then? As we would be using it with isofix, not seatbelted.

Thanks! :) xx

EDIT - oooh yes it does! You're right that isn't made obvious initially. Found this on the John Lewis website - This base is compatible with the Maxi-Cosi 2wayPearl, Pebble, Pebble Plus or Cabriofix (sold separately).

Hey everyone hope you have all been keeping well 😊 Sorry I haven't been in over a week! Things are starting settle down now at home. My dad is home out of hospital and loads better he is like a different person to what he was 2 weeks ago even! I have been having pain in my back and hips and haven't eventually went to the doctors and they are going to refer me to physio and on codine. I'm so pleased it's the weekend now 😊

It's fab seeing your baby bumps and how each person is different I can't believe we are all now passing the half way point!! Where has the time gone?

I'm 22 weeks this week.

Misscharli hope you have a lovely time in Ibiza I'm so jealous!

Pb I'm gutted the hospital have been so rubbish you would think they would just want to be helpful!

Rose your advice is fab on everything. It's really helpful having an experienced mummy.

I don't know if anyone knows but mamas and papas do parent events which we thought were quite good when we went as they showed different things but we also got a free rattle, 10% voucher and a £10 gift card.

We have just used our gift card on this... https://www.mamasandpapas.com/en-gb/baby-bud-with-play-tray-lime/p/412317400/ as it was reduced by 40% and would be useful if we go to my Mam and dad or even just for him to sit in 🙂 and a angelcare bathseat in blue.

In regards to names we have 13 on the list 😵 None that I can say stick out at the moment and I go on yeah that's the one! So we shall see.

I was looking at buying that exact baby bud Rach! In fact you just reminded me of it... hmmm!

Also we went to a M&P parent to be event and thought it was really good too. We watched the car seat demo but not the buggy one. Our store had a baby first aid person there too doing mini classes and a sensory class person giving info. Quite good for a free event and like you say the £10 voucher and freebie is a bonus! (ours was a baby grow and matching bib with clouds on)

Mrsduckie Ours didn't have the pram ether so I'm tempted to go to one of their next ones as I don't think we seen the first aid either I think we were just like omg there is so much to learn 😵😵 haha and aww that sounds so cute!

Mrs Duckie I definitely think the bases are worth every penny with the newborn seats like the pebble. If you weren't interested in a base that you could use for future seats then you can get the easybase2 which I think is the one just for the pebble and from memory I think is around the £60 region. But honestly the last thing you want to be doing when you are stressed as a first time mum or as a second time mum with another child to keep under control is fiddling about with belting in a car seat. The bases make it just take a couple of seconds and you know they are totally safe.

I read so much about everything with my first that I seemed to just suck in tons of knowledge lol - and car seats were the one thing I really wanted I be sure about, especially as the new rules were just coming in then and relatives with children 16 years old plus were trying to tell my some crusty old seat they had in their loft would be fine for my children if they were being left for the day *rolls eyes* x

Evening ladies, just caught up!

Just to put my experience into the car seat chat, I've just the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix and it stayed in the car, buckled in with the seat belt. I've never used an isofix, and I've moved them into a Joie Stages when they're ready for the next size up :)

Yay for good scans! Tasha, try not to worry - they're growing oddly atm with different bits growing quicker than others. It will even out over the next few weeks and baby will be in more normal proportions :)

Can you go to more than one or would they stop you as you would keep getting vouchers? I suppose just try different stores..... lol, hmm! Just ordered the bum bud seat thing and used our voucher as you reminded me! Thanks :)

Thanks Rose. DH and I would definitely prefer to use isofix. His car has them and I'll be buying a new (secondhand!) car soon and it's on my must have list of features. Definitely think the maxicosi 2way base is a good option as the pebble fits on it. Checked on their website and it's suitable for hubby's car.

Not 100% on which pushchair we're getting yet but (my friends tell me I'm naive for saying this...) I don't really plan on clicking the car seat onto it that much anyway. I'm mad saying that, right? I'll be desperate to not wake a sleeping baby I'm sure lol. The whole 2 hour rule thing just scares me.

Haha I'd read all that stuff Mrs Duckie about two hour rule and it all went out the window as soon as I had a baby and saw how perfectly at peace she was in there! In all honestly most shopping trips etc didn't last longer than two hours I expect but there were definitely times they've both been in there longer and they are perfectly fine. They always feel a lot more secure in the car seat when they are tiny. I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I used the carry cot part of my pram! Just getting a baby in and out of a car seat and making them grizzly doing so was enough to put me off lol.

I dreamt last night that I gave birth to twins - a boy and a girl. I would actually love that hahaha but quite sure someone would have spotted it by now! X

So my OH has stored the carry cot to our pram in the garage. I'm in no doubt it's covered in black mould by now and completely ruined. I am really cross with him as it was an overnight sleeping one and cost a fair amount of money.

But like Rose says, when it come to it I know baby would spend very little time in there. The car seat option is much more convenient and fine most of the time.
Babies sleep really well in the car seat but she'd never really settle in the carry cot so you'd end up carrying a baby and pushing a pram anyway.

Ha ha, Rose. Yes, I'm guessing after several scans someone would have spotted by now.
Would be so crazy having two babies. Everything about it blows my mind!!!

Hi ladies I'm back :) Had a lovely few days, but I'm glad to be back with my OH and the cats. Even if the house is currently a shit tip with ikea boxes and baby stuff everywhere while we decorate!

Felt lots of movement this week, pretty much every day I think now. He especially didn't like it when we took off on Monday and it was a bit turbulent! I think it woke him up :)

Will have to have a good read of all the car seat stuff, I agree that it's all a bit baffling. We weren't gonna get any of the isofix base thingys, and I don't know how to find out which ones would fit in my car? My car is 16 year old saxo, so not convinced that many would these days lol.

Miss Charli if your car is that old it won't have isofix so you'll be relying on strapping the seat in - maxi cosi pebble and ones of that style all allow you to do that. You can have isofix points fitted to older cars (although I don't know if that's all old cars) but I think it costs about £500 x

Glad you had a good time! Also good you are feeling regular movement! Mine is very regular... He doesn't sit still!

I have had 2 car seats I just strap in... You dont miss what you dont have. I also didnt have a car when I had Athena so was swapping it in peoples cars, it didnt bother me in the slightest.

Ah I didn't realise your car needed to have something specific to be able to have it! I just assumed all could haha. My OHs car probably will, it's certainly more modern than mine for its age ha.

But that's fine I can just strap it in with the seatbelt, which was the original plan :)

MissCharli, seat belt base and seat is fine, so long as installed correctly.
There is no safety difference to my knowledge.
The seat belt systems are more user dependent ( so people can do it wrong) where as isofix is pretty fool proof.

I had a seat belt base as my ten year old focus didn't have isofix. It was absolutely great.

Xx

Personally I wouldn't buy a second hand car seat, just incase theres a bit of damage to it. Maybe go into mothercare and they'll tell you everything about what car seats are best xx

Yeah I agree. I had a car sear for athena that was part of my travel system. We were going to mums and it was the first time she had had her in the car for months... I put her in the car seat and she was too big haha! We went to smyths and I got on for 50 quid. It is ideal. Not the prettiest but who cares! They showed us how to install it, super simple and then when i bought it... I was like can you help me to the car with it... They installed the seat for me haha. It can be fiddly but you get used to doing it. I find if easier now Athena is forward facing.
