August 2017 babies!

Honestly misscharli I was sure I would get it what with my dad being diabetic, being overweight my whole life, eating too much sweets and cakes throughout but both times I've had excellent readings so it really isn't caused by anything you do.
Jill you have just reminded me of the positives - I can sit and do anything I want in there for a few hours - never happens to me any other time!

About clothes - my advice is if it's your first baby then you are likely to have one way too small for 0-3 month clothes. I found the Next and sainsburys 'up to 1 month' size perfect for my 8lbs 8oz first baby (she was still quite a big first baby!) and at a month old she was ready for 0-3. My 10lb boy fitted into up to 1 month for about 10 days then had to move up to 0-3 but honestly they would have been swimming in those sizes at birth. I always have about 8-9 of each size baby gro and that's fine. For about the first 3-4 months I barely had mine out baby gros x

I've only bought a few newborn things, just because I don't know how big he's gonna be! Again I'm convinced he's gonna be a whopper (cos I'm bigger and my OH has huuuge shoulders). But I get a growth scan anyway at 34 weeks so hoping they will give me an estimate then.

Though a girl I work with had her baby on Friday and was told he would be well over 9lb, came out at under 7! So I'm not sure how accurate growth scans are tbh, apparently she was all amniotic fluid!

Oh yesssss, absolutely agree with what Rose just said about sizes! Hubby had to go out and buy us some more newborn/0-1 size baby grows/sleepsuits as the 0-3 were wayyy too big at first! xx

Haha well we've said that's what we'll do tbh. There's like 2 24 hour supermarkets within 5-10 mins of the hospital :p

On that note we bought some lovely stuff in the sale in Asda tonight. Got some superhero onsies for £2.50 each (OH just had to buy teenage mutant ninja turtles, buzz light year and barman ones :p) and a really nice feeling cardigan/jacket in 3-6mo for £4.

In terms of packing my hospital case with both my other babies I packed 3 sleeveless vests in up to 1 month size, 3 up to 1 month baby gros and 3 X 0-3 baby gros. Also my first was a December baby (almost a Christmas one!) and I live in Scotland and she only ever had a baby gro on and her blankets. I never did vests and stuff - I must be a terrible mother! But she always seemed too warm. Also I should probably add that if you attempt breast feeding then they always rapidly lose weight in the first few days (both of mine lost 10% of their birth weight in the 3-5 days it took for my milk to come in) and therefore and one point my 8lb 8 baby dropped down to 7lbs something so she definitely needed those smaller sizes x

Oh I hadn't considered that rose... see it's so useful that some of you already know what you're doing :) I think I'll do the same and bring all 3 sizes!

All the advice is really helpful thanks Rose. I think I would be lost otherwise! I'm adamant that he is going to be huge but have still been given a giant bag full of clothes and I was thinking would I even use them because there is like 24 sleepsuits with long sleeves and legs. I was thinking will he not be too hot? I was thinking about having a pile of hospital bag stuff soon just as a precaution.

Just to add though that I had to put loads of layers on Athena because she was small so the midwives insisted I had a vest, baby grow, socks and cardy on her. I had her in November and it wasn't even that cold for Edinburgh. Every hospital/midwife is different as is every baby. I thought it was overkill but she was under 6lbs. I took a bag of tiny baby stuff off My friend even though I was told I wouldn't have a small baby. She lived in them for the first 3 weeks. I have a few tiny baby stuff this time but again, I think i will go slightly later this time so might not need them.

I totally wish I had thought about the guys going round my house today. My room is piled with furniture, clothes and boxes for storage and my spare room is pretty similar with baby stuff. I was like sorry!!!!! Funnily enough they dont care but I do haha.

People thought I'd be really organised with my hospital bag with my first and have it packed at about 20 weeks because I'm so organised about other stuff but I actually did it at about 36 weeks which was probably quite late! I think with my second I did it earlier just because I knew what to put in there. Packing yourself a little overnight bag of toiletries is probably the best thing you can do e.g I use an electric toothbrush but I bought a £3 battery operated one so that was packed. And it has just stayed packed ever since having my son. So when he was in hospital in February this year I was able to say to my partner 'grab my red overnight toiletries bag, it's in X cupboard and everything is already packed'. I was really pleased with myself for having that still lol! X

I haven't really thought about it yet, is there a point when you should have it done?

Work got all in a tizzy this morning because the girl I sit next to has chickenpox! I had it when I was little but they were still really worried about it and asked me to call the midwife. Who predictably said what I thought they would say (and given I work in a health company with nurses I thought they'd be a bit more chilled out). But at least they're looking out for me :)

That is good they are worried about you miss charli. I think I had My bag done at about 30 weeks last time. I'm kind of doing it now but not with much effort tbh. Got loads on before baby is allowed to come out haha!!

Ladies I've been given several phone numbers in my notes and I don't know which one to call?
Midwife
Maternity centre
Antenatal clinic
24 hour help line
Yesterday evening I had bad pain at the top of my stomach and a really bad headache, I've woken up with a headache still and could barley see because my eyes were so blury.
Do you think I should call? These all pre eclampsia signs and my consultant said I may have it. But I don't wanna call and waste anyone's time :/ xx
Oh I've been feeling baby alot more than normal to... I don't know if that's bad or good?

I'm quite a last minute packer so I probably won't do it soon... I guess I can probably do babies clothes but i don't have anything ready for me!

Haha yes I have plenty planned before he's due! Though apparently his survival rate now would be 80%, I'd still rather he cooked a while longer haha.

Oh that's not good at all PB. I hope all is okay and they sort you out.

Let us know how you're doing xx

Hope everything is ok PeanutButter! Thinking of you!!! Please update us when you can xx

That sounds scary peanut butter but at least they've called you in. Don't ever worry about wasting anyone's time - they would honestly rather you came in with a false alarm than come in too late because you were too scared. Preeclampsia is something they are very keen to catch early. Keep us updated!

Misscharli there isn't any time you'd be expected to have one but as you are considered to have carried to term anywhere after 37 weeks then I would say definitely have it packed by then. I had a couple of reduced movement episodes with my first (and second) and that always made me realise I should definitely be prepared just in case x

Oh pb I hope you are ok! I hope you are just called in for precaution. On a plus, at least they are keeping an eye on you which is good.
