August 2017 babies! The final thread!

Thanks guys I'm really happy with them :)

Pretty well organised now yeah :) only need a few small items and to sort out my hospital bag and that's it! 9 weeks left today eek, I'm still trying not to think about labour

Yeah I'm kinda... not bored but frustrated with the amount of appointments now. I kinda wish I would just get on it with it, but I know it's important for the both of us.

I honestly can't wait to stop this glucose testing, it stresses me out so much! I've had an 8 yesterday (admittedly after a bowl of coco pops... and not a serving size bowl either :p) and a 7.8 after 2 slices of toast this morning. That's the first higher ones I've had, and I don't know if it's because I'm actually developing an intolerance or just because I'm sleeping really badly and I sit down all of the time between breakfast and the reading an hour later (I've always had breakfast at my desk at work). Idk. Will try something less carby for breakfast tomorrow and see how I go I guess.

Ahh sorry about the higher readings Charli :( did they say they was gonna test you again?
9 weeks wow. And he could come 3 weeks sooner! Eek. Not long to go :p

Baby isn't moving much again last 2 days. Last night didn't move at all and she usually moves loads when I lay down for sleep. So they've put me on monitor again :( fed up now. Midwife said that baby doesn't and probably won't get a pattern now so I just have to go off instinct which isn't good when your a worrier. X

No they just wanna see how my readings go over the next 3 weeks. They are only just over target (target is 7.7 or below), so I'm trying not to worry about it too much if it's just the odd few. I'm kinda hoping he doesn't come early though, I only finish work at 36+1! :p

Ah that's not good PB, but at least they're keeping an eye on the both of you. Go in as many times as you need, it's better safe than sorry x

PB that seems like an odd thing to tell you - I've never heard of anyone being told that their baby won't get a pattern. I would just go in as often as you think, all 3 of my babies have been really really active - like 50 kicks an hour active so when they go quiet I'm always really aware and just call straight away x

PB, I was told having a quiet day might be part of the normal pattern for my baby.
So much conflicting advice?!
I think follow your instincts, they will always see you if you are concerned.
Hope all is ok. Xx

If your readings are ok will you get to stop doing it? I have to call on Monday to.find mine out. Ages lol.

Oh, she said it's ok for.her to change what she's doing often. Was on monitor this am and pm and she sleeps alot! She said baby is very active when she is awake tho (I had lots of sugar to help her move lol) she wants me to come tomorrow for a scan cos the monitor readings wasn't that good. If scan is bad or baby hasnt picked up i have to go to the big hosp :( Fed up of hospital visits tbh.

Misscharli- your so organised it's amazing. I better get a wriggle on. 9 weeks is going to go so quickly and then your LO will be here! Have they said if he will be earlier due to the GD? Or if it's managed will it be normal? Interested in your breakfasts as I think I am going to struggle to find low carb ones. Let me know how you get on x

PB - aww I'm sorry baby isn't moving much. It must be such a worry. It's great that they are monitoring and will keep an eye on you both. I totally understand being fed up off hospital appointments.

Sending everyone lots of hugs and thanks again for all your lovely words yesterday. I've made a big decision today and it's my last day of work. I will sign myself off tomorrow and then see the GP next week. I am going to focus on these last few months and keeping as stress free and healthy as possible. I checked the policy at work and mat leave will only trigger 3 days earlier than planned x I should be able to get on here more often too xx

I'm not sure, at the first appointment they said no they will just make you monitor them until labour but when I asked at consultant/diabetic midwife appointment they said we'll see how you get on for the next 4 weeks. So no idea haha. I hope so tbh. I tested after a pasta pot for lunch and went to a Chinese restaurant for tea and they were both in the 6s! So no idea how toast made it go funny this morning. The coco pops yesterday are understandable :p

I'm not sure about going earlier either, they mentioned that they might but only if is not controlled. So much depends on my readings between now and the 30th when I have my next appointment. They said it can be anywhere between 38 weeks and 40+6 . I wouldn't mind going earlier, but I'd also like a waterbirth which my mum thinks is unlikely if they are still worried about the GD.

My breakfasts so far have been pretty normal! Bacon sandwiches and cereal have all been okay. I don't get much of an option for a low carb breakfast eating at work (cos its actually quite difficult to do it quickly I guess). I think eggs are probably the best thing to try though :)

Jealous that you have had your last day now! Really found it a struggle this week, and I'm feeling quite grouchy. I don't feel huge or uncomfortable most of the time, but just so tiring and it doesn't help that I am winding a lot of stuff down to my replacement anyway. Just feels like I'm killing time for the next 5 weeks.

I hope your scan tomorrow is okay PB, this must be such a worry for you. But you've made it this far, and she's definitely viable now. Such a good chance that you'll both be okay, and they seem to be taking good care of you now x

Silver lining you dont have to go over by 2 weeks :D can you not have a water birth if your induced then?

Ooo tash yay for mat leave! Charli, is there a reason your staying on so long?

Scan was fine, midwife reckons my reduced movements was baby going head down for the first time. Shes more active again and scan showed shes back up with her head in my ribs lol. So i need to get used to it, if i dont feel her shes probably changed to head down again. Feel better about it now! x

Ah that's good news PB, glad they've worked out what it is :) I think if its anything high risk you can't, but I'll definitely be asking at my next appt.

Cos I'll only get 39 weeks paid mat leave, so I want as much as that with him as possible basically. My mat leave officially starts at 38+1 (using holiday before), so hopefully he will be here on time and I don't waste it sitting around waiting for him!

I'm working until 38 weeks for the same reason as you Charli, I'd rather have time afterwards with baby, your mat leave sounds really good with 39 weeks pay. I'm now on the 7 week countdown, everyone thinks I'm mad for working so late!

I half packed my hospital bags last night, so exciting!

Nope mine is just the standard stat mat pay! So £140 a week after the initial 6 weeks at 90%!But we'll be okay on that so I'm taking it all, then maybe another 4 weeks unpaid if I don't need some of the money my dad has given me. But will see how it goes.

As long as we're otherwise not feeling too bad it's definitely doable. Apparently someone who used to work at my company was working even when she was in labour, she finished what she was doing and was like well I'm off to the hospital. They thought she meant to an appt but she gave birth that day!

How big a bag are you using your hospital bag? The only thing I really have is like a cabin sized suitcase but wondering if that's too big?

Misscharli I don't know anyone that hasn't worked until around 36/37 weeks! I know the last few weeks can be tough but not tough enough to miss the time spent when baby arrives in my opinion!

Hospital bag: both times I have used a cabin sized suitcase (I got one of those 'lightest in the world' type ones so it's easy to lift in case you are alone and need to) but I've also needed a hold-all as well! I found I couldn't get everything in my suitcase once I took into account maternity pads and nappies - they take up a lot of space quickly! X

Yeah I totally agree, it's just not worth it to take that paid time to sit at home on my own! I sit down all day at work, and no one is going to say anything if I start winding down a bit towards the end. It's only 5 weeks, I think I've just felt awful this week cos I haven't been sleeping properly and I haven't got used to it.

Ahh that's okay then. I will also take the changing bag for all of baby's stuff so hopefully I can fit it all in. I kinda want to get organised and pack it now, but I need to go shopping for pretty much all of it and I can't face town on a Saturday! The only time I can cope is if I'm literally there at 9am and it's too late for that today :P

That's my next job to sort my hospital bag out. We are heading to Ikea today to buy nursery furniture as the carpets were fitted yesterday 😁 So it's all coming together eventually. For my maternity leave officially I don't start it until 2 days before I'm due. I'm due the 16th on a Wednesday but I don't officially start it until the 14th. I have 3 weeks holiday I am taking before then though so I will finish at 37 weeks only 6 weeks to go! I'm really lucky being in the job I am as I get 6 months full pay then I go down to statutory maternity pay.

I also need to buy some bits for my suitcase but can't face dragging my two monsters with me lol x

I feel the same Misscharli, if I finish sooner I'll just start getting impatient sat at home, I officially start mat leave on my due date so have 9 days annual leave before that.

My bag is a small hand luggage suitcase and baby has a small holdall, it is the nappies & maternity pads which take up all the room! I need to put a towel in and some clothes for me, hope they fit!

I was gonna go at 38, but my mum recommended going at 36 just because in her experience that's when you start getting tired and really uncomfortable. I'm kinda glad now, work is annoying me anyway atm! But it'll be nice to have some final rest time before everything changes, and some time to make sure the house is spotless. Who knows when the next opportunity I'll have to clean the fridge will be :p

Gonna hopefully get some bits and bobs to start packing tomorrow! I like to be organised so I feel like I need to get cracking haha x

I need to clean my fridge and don't have the time or energy lol. I have a friend who is OCD clean and she keeps suggesting that if I occupied her two kids she'd clean for me. Every so often I seriously consider it! X
