I didnt have bloods or anything done?! :/ should i have?xxxx

Well I had my booking in appointment. She gave me my purple folder, went all through the green book, weighed me, took bloods, and did all the medical history questions.

Waiting for my scan to come through now.

Appointment took just under an hour.

I had book / notes completed
Bloods Taken 3 seperate test tubes
Urine sample sent to lab
Weighed also
Does anyone know if we're meant to have flu jabs? My midwife never mentioned it to me x

Mine said it would be advisable to get one, but then nothing about how or when.

Also Whooping Cough jabs around 26-28 weeks.

What sort of questions do they ask at the booking app? Just want to be prepared :) x

I thought about flu jab after too, it was never mentioned at the time.
I'll need my anti d jab again at about 30 weeks she said.

The questions are mainly about your medical history and a few about how you're feeling then I was given some guidance about foods to avoid and told about my next appointment and scan.x

Might have to call midwife and ask about flu jab
I'm same as you crawkay anti D ooooo not looking forward to that
Had it twice first pregnancy due to a bleed then at 30 weeks x

Hi guys! Had a stressful one
Turned up for my appointment early 2.40 (for 3pm aptt) waited until 3.15pm so asked the receptionist if everything was ok. She said yes the midwife is just running late! Ok sat down until 3.40pm still no sign!
(Getting a little annoying by now) so I asked again are you sure everything's ok? She looked at her computer, called another lady over, 'oh the midwife called jn sick today! So we've booked you another appt on the 17th' so mad I'll be 12 weeks then!
Am I being that unrealistic to want to see a midwife before I'm 12 weeks? Feeling stressed, got out of the doctors and cryed a lot!

Ouch that sucks, firsttimemum. No chance of an appointment any earlier? Maybe keep trying?

Re flu jab, I was advised all pregnant women should get it.

Aww bless you firsttimemum that's awful fancy having you sat there over an hour when she wasn't even in
And to then book you in at 12 weeks
I would ring tomorrow and ask if there is anything earlier Hun you might get someone who works there that's got a clue
Hugs x

Ah that's crap of them, especially not letting you know she wasn't in. I would totally want to be seen before 12 weeks, did they know you'd be that far on by then?
Maybe you should try and speak to the midwife over the phone and arrange something, if that's possible?x

Yeah I said to her I'll be 12 weeks then and I go on holiday first thing tomorrow morning with my mum, so will have to get my partner on the case! He's mad too as we're hoping for a scan just before Xmas xx
Personally I'm not having a flu jab just don't believe in it xxx

I had my weight, height, 3 tubes of blood taken. She filled the book with my history ect. She even rang and got my scan date which is the 30th dec they didn't do that last time lol. she also gave me my form for free prescriptions, Emma's diary and my mat notes.
Offered me the flu jab there and then and it bloody hurts
Talked about screening, whooping cough vaccine later on

10 weeks today. I had a similar experience first time mum. I went on Monday for my bloods to be taken during my lunch hour. Arrived at 12:10 for my appointment (lunch starts at 12:00,so may have broken the speed limit a tad,so I wasn't late) checked on and sat down. As I sat down another pregnant lady (who had a maternity folder like mine) came out. No-one else was there or went in. At 12:40 I went to the desk to ask how much longer she'd be as I had go get back to work for 1:00 and I still had to eat lunch. She disappeared off on her return at 12:45 she said "she's going to be at least 10 more minutes!! Is that ok?" So I told her I couldn't wait any longer as I needed to eat and it takes 10 minutes to get back. I'm a teacher so can't exactly just turn up when I feel like it. They've booked me in for 15th at 12:10!! 12 week scan is on 18th! My midwife only works 1 day a week at my surgery, which is ridiculous! Apparently there had been an emergency and she had to see someone urgently(bullsh*%t) there was no-one in with her. I was not happy!!

So far no-one has taken any samples (blood or otherwise) to make sure everything is ok. I also wanted to ask her about cough treatments. I've got a terrible cough that keeps me awake and makes me feel sick when I cough too much, but I'm pretty sure I can't take anything!! Sucks! Anyone know of anything I can take to sooth it!?!?

Hope everyone is feeling good. My little 'date' had developed it's nose, fingers and toes. How exciting!? 2 weeks to wait until 12 week scan. Can't wait! My symptoms have still subsided, which worries me,but I'm not going to complain!!xxx

You can take halls soothers and lockets, just be REALLY careful not to overdo the recommended dose.
You can take paracetamol the same.

I found the best thing ever was a small cup of hot water with Manuka honey in it. Manuka honey is a natural healing/antiseptic/remedy job, perfectly safe.
Works a charm.
Or, did for me.

I hope you feel better soon. Being ill SUCKS at the best of times. Xx

Well i had no tests! :( diddly squat! For starters i want to know my hormone level as 2days before my bfp i had been to docs for cd21 blood results and she said they were too low to have concieved -so now im worried they arnt high enough to carry a baby. Also my iron is really low and b12. I have a medical questionaire to fill out and hopefully see the midwife at home next week.
One i saw on tuesday was only a stand in so maybe thats why she did nothing?!? She said my scan request would go off on weds morning. How long did you guys wait till u got your date through? My hosp is normally pretty good and lets you know within a week.
how are you all today? I also have a tickly cough that is making me be sick - driving me potty :(
Xxxxxx

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all feeling well.

Crawkay, glad to hear your midwife appointment went well. Sorry to hear some of you didn't have the best experience with yours. There's just too many inconsistencies between all of the care we've received, it should be the same everywhere! At my midwife appointment she did bloods, asked about medical history & lmp, took vital signs, height, weight, etc, and sent my maternity notes off to book my 12 week scan.

I had the flu jab at work when we were trying as I know it's advised for pregnant women to have it.

I was at the fertility centre yesterday for work as I'll be taking on an infertility study soon and I got to see the ICSI/IVF process, it was incredible. Saw the woman in theatre, the embryologists looking throught the fluid for eggs, sperm moving around under the microscope and then I saw the ICSI procedure firsthand. The embryologist injected the sperm straight into the egg (they only managed to collect one from the lady so they literally had one chance) and it was just devastating, the egg just died almost instantly. That poor couple will have a phone call today explaining that their one and only ICSI attempt on the NHS has failed already. Both of them have fertility issues so it's highly unlikely they will have a biological child together, it's just so sad.

I'm already so thankful and appreciative that my OH and I were lucky enough to conceive naturally and quickly but it definitely made me realise just how fortunate we've been xx

Kwarbee that is really sad, I have a friend who had a failed round of ivf and won't try again. Telling her my news was hard, feels so unfair.

How are you all? My phone doesn't load old pages so sorry I don't pick up on certain things! All ok?

I have finally chosen my hospital! Yippee!! Feel much more comfortable after having a look round, saw some teeny tiny babies too, can't wait! Now just to have my proper booking in appointment on 15th and scan hopefully before Christmas!

X

It really is heartbreaking to witness like that. That must've been so hard for you, telling your friend. It does seem so cruel.

Ooh, that's lovely that you got to have a look around. I work where I've chosen to give birth so I'm lucky that I know it fairly well already. When will you be 12 weeks Bonze? By lmp I'll be 12 weeks on Christmas Day and because we want them to do the NT test apparently we have a chance of getting in before Christmas as that test needs to be done between 11-12 weeks. Worth mentioning maybe?

Bridger, wishing you all the best for your scan today. Holding out hope that you'll have a sticky bean in there xx
