Just ate and feel so sick, think my sickness is very on and off!!
Id anyone else considering a home birth? xx
With this being my 1st, I think I would be too worried to have a home birth, but I do see why people like the idea as it is probably much more relaxing being in your own home. I just like the idea of being close to anything I may need in a hospital! I have had thoughts about a water birth though, anybody else?? X

100% want a water birth! Always have. So thats the first thing going in my plan xxxx

Me too, 100% a water birth!!
Yeah I am seriously considering home birth,I'm going to chat to my midwife about it at the booking appt. It's my first baby and the hospitals an hour away so I'm not sure whether they'd be a bit cautious about it?
I'm an anxious person too lol hence why I want one- I know it should be the other way round but
-At home I'd be guarenteed a pool (I know things could mean I have to go to hospital and have to be lay on a bed but this is assuming everything is okay and I would obviously change my mind if I had to for babies safety). I want to do hypnobirthing in pool, lots of candles, relaxing music etc. Lots of walking about in the early stages. I like the idea of one on one midwife care. Because I'm anxious, I think I will feel a LOT more comfortable at home and if I get anxious and start with my panic attacks I know the whole thing will go wrong lol!!
Our hospital has ONE birthing pool lol and covers quite ab ig area! Also one of the main reasons I want a home birth as well as guarenteed pool, calmer atmosphere etc is the fact OH wont be told to leave and told when he can come and visit etc. The thought of him leaving, driving back when he'l be tired for an hour, me in the hospital voernight with other random people on a ward, having to shout for help if I need it- NO THANKS . lol . I would so much rather spend it at home lol.
I think its awful on dads for their partner to have a baby and then they usually have to go home away from it at some point.
ALSO with a homebirth OH can nap/sleep comfortably in bed (he sleeps so much lol!) without driving an hour away and then having to dash back in if labour progressed. He'l be no use to me if tired lol

So Yess I am seriously considering one! If not for this first birth then defo for my second baby if things go smooth I will want one 100%.
Will see what midwife suggests
Might look into birthing centres :)
If I do have to go to hosp I will defo be doing hynobirthing still and when they make OH leave they can think again as it isn't happening haha (that sounds so bratty lol but hospitals make me anxious at the best of times)!
xxxx

Hi girls,

I was keen on a home birth but hubby has point blank put his foot down and said no! so as natural as possible in birth centre at hospital.

Have been asked which hospital i am choosing to have the baby in...uhm I have NO IDEA...how am i meant to choose? all have birth centres that is all i know!

HELP!!

They all sounds like really good reasons Millie. I can totally see why some people like the idea of a home birth. I'm not really sure what I'll do yet. We are moving house before the baby arrives so I can't picture the home or the hospital yet as have no idea where we'll end up! I like the idea of a waterbirth though.

I know a few people have mentioned they've been getting cramps- how severe are they? Generally I'm feeling fine but a few times a day I'm having period-like pains but they're really intense. I'm normally OKish at dealing with pain but this is really making me squirm and knocks me sick. But then once it goes away I feel fine again. So not really sure if I should be worried or not? Xx

Lola, period type pains are normal and many of us have experienced them, if they are knocking you for six it might be worth speaking to the doctor for some advice?

Your uterus is stretching (apparently!!) so that's what you're experiencing! But if worried get checked x

Thanks BonzE, that is really reassuring. Hope that's just what it is. I'm meant to have my first appointment with the GP next Thursday anyway so will just mention it then unless it gets worse xx

I think it's cramps alongside bleeding that needs looking at. Iv have mild cramping and other a more intense, part and parcel! X

My cramping was pretty bad but mine started as period type cramps earlier on then 2 eeks before last got awful stabbing pain in one side- had to lie down and have a hot water bottle!

Yeah if there's a birth centre nearby either hospital I'd be happy to consider that too lol! xxxx

Thanks girls :) It's eased off again now, just feeling sick instead. Lovely :)

Are birthing centres separate to hospitals then? I am seriously clueless! xx

Glad it's eased off. Hope you feel less sick soon :)
Birthing centres are usually midwife led and more focus on natural birthing. i think they can either be seperate or just next to the hospital :) xx

In all honesty girls...

It's all well and good to know what kind of birth you're having...
When I was coming up to DS' due date, I KNEW I was having a water birth on has and air.

Until labour started and I was begging for the drugs. (I am a big pain-pussy, to be fair).

I ended up on a bed on all fours with pethadine.
It truly was beautiful, and I'm really looking forward to it all over again (no sarcasm).

Have your plans.
Just be VERY open to the idea they could change at the drop of a pin.

XOH did say that as much as he hated having to leave (hospital is five minutes away), he needed that push to go get some sleep, or he'd have just been awake forever. He said that few hours away (he was gone about five hours I think) let him get out and process what had actually just happened, and allow his own emotions to let go a bit.

Also, I got some time to just lay and stare at these teeny new person I was suddenly responsible for (from a post-birth viewpoint).

For someone like yourself, Millie... Are there maybe some hotels OH could store phone number and postcode for on his phone so when the time comes he can book in last minute and have that place to go just for a couple hours?

Visiting hours at my hospital were something bizarre like 9am-2pm, 5pm-9pm. I gave birth just before 4am, finally went onto the ward around 6am, they shoo'd XOH out around 7am. I had a couple dozy hours, my mammy an daddy were back at 9am (they'd popped in for five minutes just after the birth), then XOH arrived back around 11am.

The hours I was alone, felt like moments. Mostly because I think I spent it all asleep, to be honest.

Oh, and modesty? Kiss it goodbye.
Without trying to sound crude (I'm tired and can't be bothered beating around the bush).
Make-up and a hair brush will NOT be making it into the hospital.
I'm a reasonably shy person. If I'm getting changed at a swimming pool or whatever, I'll take a change stall every time rather than risk tryna fiddle under a towel or whatever.
Those couple days post-birth? Right out the window.
Literally, I'm laying there in a hospital bed with midwives and nurses and cleaners and goodness knows who popping in and out... Hairy legs for the world to see, boobs flopping everywhere...
I can PROMISE you; you don't care.

Hospital birth will be your: laid in a bed, possibly with doctors as well as midwives.

Birthing centre will be your birthing pools and a midwife only.

I know my hospital, that's the only difference. You can have music, labour balls, dim lights, smells (incense-style), whatever.

The advantage of hospital birth: if anything does go slightly whoopsie, there's doctors and meds and stuff all right there. Birthing centres do not have doctors, they are midwives only, and are limited to what meds they can administer.

The advantage of birthing center: you're not in that "hospital" environment, more relaxing, etc.

If your pregnancy is midwife led: you'll be auto-booked into birthing centre unless you opt for hospital.
If it's consultant led: you'll be auto-booked into hospital unless they decide otherwise.

Honestly... As I was just getting done giving birth and stuff, everyone suddenly scrambled... A woman was giving birth right out in the parking lot.
In the middle of Jan.
In the middle of the night.

I'll take a hospital or a birthing centre over that idea. (Both mother and baby were just fine).

Ooh I hate the thought of gas and air lol can't stand feeling out of control! I don't like being drunk or anything lol. Had morphine when I had an op once and had a bad reaction to it-even paracetemol makes me feel quite out of it. My mum had morphine and couldn't hold either of us for 12 hours after birth she was so out of it, we're both sensitive to everything lol meds, sugar, caffeine..I also have asthma, exzema, allergic to fur, dust, fungi and pollen... suuuper sensitive lol!! so think I'm just going to have to put up with it lol! I know there's other painkillers but I'm generally sensitive to ones I have tried so I'd really rather avoid it lol... if I can that is!I have quite a high pain threshold I think :)
I am open to change if needs be though :) will need painkillers if I end up needing a c section obv lol.

It depends when labour happens whether he'd be able to book into a hotel nearby lol can get super busy with tourists but that's a really good idea and there surely must be somewhere lol! I would feel a lot better that way as he'd be nearby! So if he was sent back when I was in labour he wouldn't risk missing the birth or anything and also I'd feel a lot more comfortable afterwards him being close.
Visting hours I've looked up and they are the biggest joke you have ever heard haha something like 1-2 and 6-7 taking visiting HOUR litterally there haha!!!
I just don't want to be staying in overnight the whole night in the hospital. Would much rather the homebirth!

Haha Lacey the bit about modesty made me laugh. Tbh I would want to be naked for a waterbirth-no bikini for me lol. The last thing I'd want when in pain is clothes sticking to me etc lol.
xxxx

Oh gosh lol poor girl giving birth in the cold!
I can't STAND lying flat lol. I can't do it haha make me feel as if I'm choking :L have to lie on my side lol. Defo would want to birth on all fours I think!! xx

I'm open to anything, keen for as natural as poss but realise that can go out the window! Birthing centre it will be and all ours are attached to the hospital so I just have to choose which hospital...really tricky!

I am worried about tearing, pooing and my hubby never wanting to have sex with me again! The other stuff I can deal with!!

My life fear for as long as i. An remember is shitting.myself during labour. Hahahah OH would find it hilarious!!!!xxxx

I like the idea of a water birth, it always seems a lot calmer that way on OBEM but I am horrendous with pain, total wuss. I can imagine I'll be demanding an epidural 4 minutes in.

I've just realised I've totally gone off sweet stuff. I've never had a massive sweet tooth but I do love a bit of Cadburys now and again (and a bit more) but just been thinking and I haven't had or wanted any in about 2 weeks. Weird.x

I can really recommend hypnobirthing. I was terrified of pain in my first pregnancy so was willing to try anything and we got someone to do a one to one course with us during tri 2. It was a full antenatal course and really prepared us for the whole process. I was consultant led, so didn't really think about home birth, but we were lucky enough to get a water birth at the hospital. It was amazing. I had a slight panic in the middle, took two breaths of gas and air, which calmed me down, then I carried on with dh support.

Will be consultant led again this time and they might recommend elective c-section as I had a tear last time. Will have to wait and see what the consultant says. Really don't want that if I can avoid it, but then don't want to do irreparable damage to my pelvic floor either! So although I'd love a home birth with a pool for all the reasons Millie pointed out, it's probably not going to be practical for me.

toniwin ooh nice to hear you hypnobirthing story :) It does sound amazing!

I keep having the worst mood swings like PMS x 1 million . Is it just me? Been feeling soo depressed too which isn't like me :/ xx
