Why would you NOT breastfeed?

I did say in my first post that if you were ABLE to, I know and understand people can't and I accept that but it makes me upset that people have a baby and then don't breastfeed because they want their bodies in shape. When that is the case, it strongly angers me because I think if you planned the baby and can breastfeed with no problems, why wouldn't you?
Formula will never give a baby everything he or she needs. Ever.

Im going to be honest here...

I think you ONLY apolgised because you realised a few ppl were a bit annoyed... But you continue to make comments which I personally see will get ppls backs up...

I say this with upmost respect but its going to come over a bit harsh but what business is it REALLY of yours??? If we all got angry about the state of the world and the way ppl raised their children then hell there would be alot of anger in the world... I could state a huge post about the whys and what nots about different things but we need to be considerate here and realise different strokes for different folkes, im not perfect so I can't judge.

There are plenty of reasons a mother may choose from the off to bottle feed, maybe they want to avoid going down the road of it not working out, maybe they don't want to feed with something they see as a sexual object, there are other reasons but who is anyone to judge??? i personally don;t know all the reasons and I don;t even see why ppl/mothers have to justify themselves...

Breastfeeding isn't for everyone so just deal with it...

I'm sorry but I think thats an awful post. Some people choose to bf some to bottle. Yes thats fine. Being curious to the reasons behind it is also fine. I'm interested to find out reasons behiind it.

What business is it of anyones to come on here and answer?
If you can't post things on a public forum then where can you. I know people who think its a baby's bithright to breastfeed not a mothers choice as that is the natural way. Does that make them any different to anyone else?? No. It's an opinion they have. My opinion may differ to other peoples but so be it. thats life . But i'm allowed to be curious.

No one has said bottle feeders are bad mums or anything ffs, people judge themselves and thats no one elses problem.

Just when I thought this thread could be a really good interesting debate :wall:

I don't understand why someone who can physically and emotionally breastfeed won't but that is not me looking down on them, thats me not understanding why. I am the same with not understanding why anyone wouldn't want to sling their newborn, or use cloth nappies - but I do understand that my ways don't suit everyone. See there is a difference between not understanding and thinking you are better then someone. I also know that others might not understand why I choose to breastfeed past the age of 1 or go down the BLW route.

    exactly

I didn't want to get involved in this thread but have been reading it and just wanted to say that I think you have hit the nail on the head Beanie.

I dnt wanna offend anyone by wondering this aloud but i have a genuine idea that perplexes me so im just gunna say it.... I understand there are a million reasons not to try breastfeeding from the off and the majority i find absolutely fair enough, some women have health issues, personal issues past bad experiences etc and of course its everyones personal choice, and this is just because i nosey and think too much BUT.....

i dont really get women who dont want to try breastfeed and they see their boobs as a sexual thing, surely your foofs a more, or at least equally sexual thing, so therefore whacking a baby out of your Va Jay Jay and keeping that sexual in your mind has got to be more of a challenge than feeding your LO from the boob ?

Hope that made sense

  Kudos to beanie though, well put !

But dont you see that the statement "I dont understand way" comes across as you looking down on them whether you intend it that way or not?

Like if i was with my friends and said "I dont understand why people listen to rap music" the connotation from that would be that i find rap music rubbish and inferior to the music l listen to...

So to say that you dont understand why people dont breast breast and therefore bottle feed, dont carry their babies in slings or use disposable rather than cloth nappies...the inference (again whether you mean it to or not) is that you see these methods as inferior.

I personally am someone who enjoys cooking and love to make James his dinners from scratch but i would never say that i dont understand why people use jars because to me the inference of that statement would be that i think its beneath cooking from scratch, and i dont believe that, its just a different method to one i use - doesnt make it inferior.

I think thats why formula feeders etc feel that they ARE looked down upon on this forum, because despite people saying that they dont see themselves as superior, the words and tone used sometimes certainly dont convey that message....

Thats why IMHO things can get a bit heated sometimes because whats said and they way its said are two totally different things..

(and just to say Beanie im not singling you out because i quote you!).

Yeah maybe! Im not denying that. But as you rightly said, this is a public forum where we can all express our opinions and thats mine :D

I don't understand why people use jars... too dam expensive  Technically does that make superior or inferior because I'm too poor to buy jars?

lol...out of context with my point a bit Squig! I was referring to the use of the statement "I dont understand". Im sure you do understand that for some people they can afford it so cost isnt an issue so your point isnt really relevant in terms of what i was trying to say. :D Nobody is inferior or superior or whatever based on what they can or cant afford!! I would never suggest that and if thats how it came across im sorry

lol I don't feel like I am being singled out, my shoulders are broad.

I'm sorry that you feel like that but I am not sorry for my words. Funnily enough my friend said to me the other week "I don't understand how you can listen to that noise" when we were talking about music, I didn't feel as if she was saying her music taste was better, if anyhting I felt she needed her ears tested ;)I have read a lot of posts from people regarding extended breastfeeding, the majority of which are along the lines of "I don't understand how anyone can do it". I don't feel like they are looking down on me, I feel that they don't have the same experiences as me. I also read that its wrong and sick and only done by mums who are needy - that does bother me as it is factually incorrect and insulting. If my words make people feel "inferior" (which isn't my choice of word) then without being rude, that is your issue. I obviously hate the thought anyone is made to feel bad because of what I say but I cannot never say anything for fear of doing so.

Did you just buy fresh fruit and veg for him though, whilst eating your usual?
I think it only saves if you ALL are eating the same thing...homecooked meals wise...if you're buying for him specially anyway, it takes away the point of saving, cos your buying jars for him specially as it is,IYKWIM? We cook from scratch for the whole lot of us, Wils just mucks in...so you probably will save more when he's older! :D

:rotfl:

Admittedly its still cheaper  ...mind...jars are nearly 3€ a jar here times by 3, times by 7 is 63€ a week, I can get a WHOLE weeks shopping for 3 people for that price...so its a bit different for me. :D

So my post is awful, thats you're opinion.
I'm going to defend Sharne here, cos i think like me initially, she got a bit offended by the wording of Scouts post, but Scout has admitted earlier she maybe didn't word things appropriately. We have had our adult, healthy debate about that already :D
It is so easy when you type a statement, for your tone and real meaning to be misconstrued....
