*** Weaning Thread *** (Stage two yet?)

Hiya Valentine  Of course you can join in. Open to anyone who needs a bit of support  BTW Ella has a fab diet!! :cheer:

I think we all seem to be stuck on finger foods don't we  I'm gonna have a look into it today but have ordered lots of veg and was thinking of giving him slices of carrot and tomato to start with, I'm hoping thats ok but i'm gonna have a look today and see what type of thing people recommend so will post back here.

I think the worrying thing for me is knowing how big to give the finger food, so nervous about him choking :?

I got a few Hipp organic jars today and also gonna start giving him some of what I have mashed up (excluding the days I have chips  )

Glad to hear your all doing well

just thought i'd quickly post this:

Good choices for you baby's first finger foods can include:

baby crackers
pieces of bread
plain wafer type cookies
dry cereals, like cheerios
cut and well cooked vegetable pieces, like green beans, potatoes, or peas
pieces of soft ripe fruits (bananas, etc.)
small pieces of cheese
cooked pasta
small pieces of well cooked meats

Hi girls,

Finger foods

When I was doing lots of research into BLW, I put together a list of finger foods taken from various posts on this forum.

Boiled veg sticks (make them chip shaped and they will hold them in their fist) - carrot, butternut squash, potato wedges, brocolli florets, sweet potato, asparagus spears, green beans or roasted with tiny bit olive oil and some mixed herbs/lemon etc
Breadsticks (I normally break these up a bit) and dips – hummus/nat yoghurt/guacamole/nonspicy salsa/warm cheese sauce
Ricecakes/toasted pitta etc and mashed avocado/homemade houmous/bean spread/philly/dairylea/tuna
Fruit (make them chip shaped) - bits of mango, banana, orange segments, strawberries, melon pieces - dry them off on a piece of kitchen roll so baby can pick them up)
Cucumber/pepper - I skin these, but I probably don't have to
Sandwiches - I make them with good quality stuff on wholemeal or seedy bread, then squash them down so everything sticks together and cut them into soldiers
Toast with un/s butter
Sticks of cheese
Homemade fishcakes
Dairylea triangle
Rusk
Felafel

I hope this helps! DD's current favourites are breadsticks, banana, cheese, cucumber, toast, blueberries, grapes - but I do tend to pop them in her mouth in bits  rather than let her do it herself.

There great ideas Valentine, Ella has a great diet! I muxt do the same for DD so she eats her food properly and enjoys good food instead of processed rubbish like her brother.

Thanks for posting that list Valentine there's some great idea's :D

How do you give the blueberries and grapes to Ella? Do you squash them?

That list is brilliant - thanks for that Valentine some great ideas. gonna try them today :D

That list is super Valentine - it sounds like you're doing great with the feeding. I'm going to get some breadsticks today.....hadn't thought of them and I imagine they'll be quite easy to hold. I'm just about to go to Tesco to get some grub so will pick them up xx

Just a little post:

I got these in my shopping this morning and have to say Jack loved them! They melt in the mouth and perfect size for LO's to hold. Would definately recommend as finger food :D

Also I changed my order from cow and gate jars to Hipp Organic and did a bit of a taste test. I'm not sure whether it's because I bought stage 2 jars but these are miles tastier that cow and gate, actually taste like real food!! Again would recommend and Tesco always offers 10 for £4 which I think is really good deal :D

I found that with the hipp too un that they had taste and have been getting the tesco offers too!

Madam is sitting in her walker though eating bread nd shes making a right mess lol so il have to wash it and strip it once shes finished, it was new this week and wrecked already!!!

I just gave Dylan a rusk then a breadstick with humous and he totally loved it, he obviously can't dip it in so I done that for him then he held it and ate it. I thought he had eaten both of them in full until I lifted him out his chair and a few wee bits fell out! He was very chuffed with himself.

Sweetcheeks I got those Organix carrot sticks last week to try but Dylan didn't seem too bothered with them....so I ate them

Hi everyone
Going to join in here if thats okay.
Jess is now on two meals a day mainly pureed veg and fruit, we've been weaning for 3 weeks. When does/can she need to have lumpier food? Is that stage 2? and also can she have all the finger foods you've all kindly posted from now?
Thanks

Hi ladies!

we have had a much better experience with lumpy lunch today, she had spaghetti bolognase and she loved it and ate it with no problems.I actually looked at yesterdayd lunch and it had rice in it - which is was way lumpy for her. Shes also had toast today and plian bread. Am going to try sandwiches later with more spaghetti.

Definitely been one of the best days so far.

:cheer: Yeahhhh - we tried the lumpy food and I have to say his face was a picture :rotfl: It smelt and tasted a lot nicer :D

Weenik - I have had a couple too  Tasty hehe

Babyroo  Course you can join. I have been weaning Jack just over 3 weeks and decided he was bored or pureed stuff which is why I started the lumpier stuff (stage 2) It says from around 7 months but I would say once LO has been eating for a few weeks its worth trying them. I think the finger foods posted would be fine for your LO, maybe try the softer stuff at first?

Jack normally has water with his meals, today I added a tiny bit of juice, it said it was a drink on it's own but I thought it was quite sugary so only put a tiny bit in with his water, he didn't half screw his face up  Think he prefers just water.
