*** Weaning Thread *** (Stage two yet?)

Hi all

Well Charlotte is still having her 4 bottles of 7-8 oz, but we can't get her to want more solids, even though i give her solids before milk, she will only have a small amount. Do they just gradually want more solids and reduce the milk???

Hope all mummies and babies are well

Hi Nikkif,
My problem is that she is eating loads more solids but not cutting down on milk  Don't really know the answer . sorry :) How is little Charlotte doing?

Hiya Nikki.. Jack is the same, he only has probably half a jar of food if i'm lucky but I reckon once he gets used to it he'll eat more so just pesevere

Sounds like were all doing brill and I have to agree with Weenik, this thread showing all our babies are different so not for any of us to worry. Baby won't allow itself to starve so will soon let us know when they want more

Sorry for shot post and not answering peoples questions but got dinner on.. was just wondering rather than a list of what normal foods jack CAN have now does anyone know what he definately CAN'T have?

Thanks

I was told the only food they can't have between 6 months and 1 year is honey because it has a risk of bochelism (sp?) but that everything else is fair game, including egg, fish, everything

Hi Newmum, hows your LO doing. Charlotte is doing fine thanks :)

Sweetcheeks - yes they are all so different so i suppose we just have to go with their pace. :)

In case any of you are interested, I asked about Ryan's milk intake at baby clinic today, and showed her the food diary I have.

She says I'm giving him a good range of foods, but that he needs more dairy, as I suspected. She said that over 6 months the food is more important than the milk so if he is doing well on food then that is more important, but to increase milk intake without adding additional feeds I should add milk to mushed stuff (like potato), give yogurts/fromage frais, have cheese pieces as finger food, continue to use milk with baby rice instead of water, and put cooked things in milky sauces like cheese sauce/parsley sauce etc.

Just thought that may help someone else. I hadn't thought about trying to incorporate milk into the actual solids :wall:

I dare not give dairy yet as when i did with stephen he flared up in ezcema akk over his face and body and it was because of the fromage frais.(?).
She prefers fruit anyway, so im waiting at the moment for her fruit to ripen then I am gong to give her some pear and banana as finger foods.

Yesterday she had
7.00am - bottle 9oz
9.00am - toast
11.00am - mediteraanean veg stage2 (half of a large pot)
and banana yoghurt breakfast.Sips pf water.
2.00pm - slices of cheese
3.00pm - The other half of the med veg jar and summer fruits.
6.00pm - Moe toast
7pm - bottle 9oz then she went to bed.

Mrs_tommo22 did you gradually reduce Imogen's number of bottles of milk?? I am just wondering as at the minute my LO is having 4 7-8 Oz bottles and i cannot get her to have more solids whatever i try. This week she just doesn't seem interested at all

I tried the solids when she was hungry so she had to eat it! and she did great first time and is continuing to be a good feeder.

She really reduced the bottles herself though but still has a lot of milk when she has a bottle. We replaced milk with food but she still has over a pint a day which is fine.

I've changed Maddisons feeding routine over last couple of days and this seems to work:-

8am - 7oz bottle
9:30am - porridge/fruity breakfast
12pm - Stage 2 jar (less than half jar) + 7oz bottle
2pm - fruit + water if she will take it
4pm - half jar stage 1
5pm - 7oz bottle
7pm - 7oz bottle

So she has cut out one of her bottles now and eating more solids :cheer:

Ryan nearly choked on a piece of orange this evening :( I had to make him gag to get it out  felt such a terrible mom. I'll stick to the finger food crisps I think, it appears I'm crap with finger food :(

You must have got a fright Leckershell - don't worry though you didn't do anything wrong  It's trial and error with everything - Dylan tried to fit half a slice of toast in his mouth all at once so I had to pull it all out....he still tries to do it so now I just give him smaller slices. Have you tried anything with dairy in it? I made D macaroni cheese today and he loved it and it was really easy to make xx

He wanted to sleep before the lasagne had finished cooking (cheese sauce) so I gave him a jar and a petit filous. He's got through 6 petit filous's since they told me to "up" his dairy :rotfl:

Lola seems to be doing a lot better with her food. She eat 2 meals yesterday as well as loads of finger foods :cheer:
She's still haveing loads of milk though and i can't get her to cut down, I think it's more of a comfort thing though

Here's a video of her
http://www.pregnancyforum.co.uk/forum/v ... highlight=

Leckershell - Poor you  I haven't tried Lola with orange yet. I think i might hold off for a little while.

Weenik - Lola always tries to put full bits in her mouth so i've had to start to cutting her toast into smaller bits because she's not learning and keeps stuffing her mouth full

Snuggle - Yay Maddison! :cheer:

Mrs T - What cheese do you use? I can't get Lola to have it she just pulls funny faces and throws it on the floor.

Hope everyone else is doing well

HI everyone,
These days we are down to a bottle in the morning on waking and one in the evening and then one at night. Sometimes I give her one in the afternoon if she seems to need it. But altogether around 700ml.

She eats porridge and puree for breakfast. Some kind of veg for lunch mixed with something heavier eg potato or avocado. Then fruit and baby rice /3 corn cereal in the late afternoon and a bottle before bed.

HI Lola's mummy,
I left a message somewhere for you on the forum...can't remember where
Glad she is doing better with eating. I think it takes them a while to settle down with milk. Now LO has decided she doesn't need as much as she thought and has cut it a little. but other days she 'needs' it. Maybe it depends on what they have eaten and have full they feel.

Leckershell - the choking thing is horrible. I've been a coward and only given her banana as finger food because it is so slippery :) will have to be more adventurous.

Well- off to bed now. The nights still suck.
x

How long do rice cakes last out of the packets?

I've been meaning to get some for Ryan but the packets are huge and there's no way he could get through that many...

When i have opened the packet i put the rest of them in an airtight container to keep them fresh :)

thats what I do with the crisps  they last for the day they were opened and the day after.. i do taste test them myself and if they're not "chewy" il give them to him

TBH Lola's don't really last that long because OH eats them all the time, I buy at least 3 packets a week

Yeah I pop my finger food rice cakes into an air tight container, it actually advise that on side of packet too and they do last a while :)

I'm hapy to say me and Jack are getting the hang of this weaning lark at long last

So far its.

8am bottle.

10am - porridge and bottle.

2pm - dinner and water

3:30 bottle

5pm - dinner (at moment it's fruit and yogurht rather than savoury)

7pm bottle and bed

He loves spag bol :cheer:
