*** Weaning Thread *** (Stage two yet?)

aww thanks hun - Misslarue did it for me she's fab.

I gave Jack a little bit of toast today and he loved it, it was my toast though so it had a little bit of flora on, is that ok?

Finger foods are scary though  I always get scared in case he chokes but I know I have to let him so he knows how to do it. I'm gonna give him carrot and tomato for finger foods tomorrow so will let you know how he likes those :D

Hello

thought i'd bump it back up as i'm moving onto stage two tomorrow or should I say Jack is.

This is my planned schedule:

8:30am milk

11am porridge and milk

2:30pm dinner and dessert

4:30 teatime and milk possibly

7pm milk and bed

I'm a bit nervous about starting him on lumps but he seems really bored by his food now so thinking texture will be good for him. I also got him in plenty of veg and things for finger food and going to give him those as snacks during the day.

How's everyone else getting on?

 hope everyones doing well :D

I was also thinking about starting lumps but don't really know where to start with the finger foods. Lola already has rusk as a biscuit which she really enjoys. Today i gave her a bit of dry toast but she wasn't that impressed just squashed it.

What finger foods does everyone elses babies enjoy?

Sweetcheeks - I really like your new signature. Jack is so cute :D

I bought a packet of these for a laugh to try some finger food...

and because it's ring shaped like his teether it went straight in his mouth. He sort of gave it a good chew but it took ages and bits kept coming out. He knew what to do with it though so :D

and yes we're on stage 2 jars... beware of the nappies that's all i have to say on the matter

Hi girls, for some reason I have only just noticed this thread - duh!

As most of you have probably read that I didnt have much luck with the stage2 hipp this afternoon. But I give her a rusk later on and she chomps away quite happily, she will chew that but not the other stuff!? little weirdo, I dont want to give it too her again cos I dont want her being sick again.

Though should I give it too her so she gets used to it? Help is needed by moi!

I heard most babies puke up their first chunky food until they get used to it (can't find a link at the mo), so maybe try a different flavour one and try again? If that fails, try again in a week or so?

Ryan's not really complained or puked up his food (except fish mornay) but if it was me that's what I'd try.

I've given D some lumpier food and he's quite happy with it. Some things I just mash up now instead of blending it. I made him salmon with veg and milky potatoes for his dinner tonight and he loved it. He likes biting into fruit (mango is his favourite just now) but it's really hard for him to hold coz it's so slidey so for finger food I've been giving him dry toast and he loves it. I want to give him more finger food but I'm not really that sure what to give him - I suppose I'm like others and the thought of him choking scares me. I think once he's a bit more used to chewing and had a few more textures then I'll start to give him more fruit and veg to hold himself. At meal times I often load a spoon with food and he feeds himself - you can imagine the mess of the floor once we're done :D

Hi girls,

Am I allowed to join in?

I began weaning DD at 6 months and we're now happily on 3 meals and 4 breastfeeds a day. We did start with BLW, but she just wasn't getting it and we were both getting very frustrated so we now do a bit of both - and I try to offer finger foods at each meal. I'm not sure what stage 2 is, is that lumpy food? As we didn't start weaning her til 25+ weeks, I just started on lumpy/mashy food, I'm not sure if that was the wrong thing to do  ? I was just too lazy to puree! But now she'll take quite big lumps and bites into things and chews really well.

Here is a sample few days so you can see what we're up to. All the food is homemade apart from the odd Organix rice pudding/fruit pot for pudding.

Friday:- porridge and expressed breastmilk and fruit puree (homemade), mashed avocado and breadsticks and 10 blueberries, mince and tatties and carrot + at least 5 breastfeeds (if not more!) and c/b water

Saturday:- organic weetabix (about 1/3 to 1/2 a weetabix) and expressed breastmilk and fruit puree (homemade), cream cheese and breadsticks and 7 blueberries, plaice cooked with little dod of un/s butter and mashed up with butternut squash and orange. 1 raspberry and some organix banana rice pudding + multiple breastfeeds and c/b water.

Sunday:- can't remember!

Monday:- can't remember brekkie but will have been porridge/org. weetabix/yeo valley org. yoghurt and homemade fruit puree, ham sandwiches (Warburtons little wholemeal seedy bread with un/s butter and good quality ham made into sandwiches and squashed down and cut into fingers), blueberries. salmon (I was having salmon for my tea so she had some of my bit) flaked up into root veg puree (carrots, sweet potato, turnip and butternut squash). 4 breastfeeds and c/b water.

Tuesday:- can't remember!

Wednesday:- Yeo Valley Organic natural yoghurt with homemade fruit puree and some banana to chomp on, lentil and cheese dip (thanks Sarah H!) with breadsticks then some blueberries, homemade cauliflower cheese made with breastmilk and a small piece of Warburtons bread toasted with un/s butter - I couldn't believe she ate nearly all this bit of small toast! She didn't like the texture though, so I had to moush it up a bit in my hand to make it softer and less coarse. 4 breastfeeds and c/b water.

Thursday:- Plum porridge and expressed breastmilk and some kiwi and pear homemade fruit puree and some banana to chomp on, Yeo Valley Organic natural yoghurt then cheese cubes, ricecakes, half grapes and organix golden sweetcorn things then some blueberries for lunch, homemade baby pasta with fresh tomato, onion, mushroom, garlic and basil sauce with mozzarella. Fruity custard with fresh raspberries. 4 breastfeeds and c/b water.

As I said, DD isn't great with finger foods but I am persevering. With breadsticks and cheese cubes, I often have to put little pieces broken off into her mouth. Things like banana though, she'll just bite into and chomp away at.

Since the introduction of puddings last weekend (meanie Mummy here wasn't giving her any 2nd course at lunch or teatime) DD has been sleeping through - last night for 13 hours - hoorah! DD slept through from 6.5 weeks to 4 months old and at 7 months is now sleeping through again - yay!

DD takes a good long breastfeed in the morning and about 6.45pm before bed, then 2 breastfeed snacks, mid morning and mid afternoon. Her day goes vaguely like this:-

7-8am wake up, long breastfeed
8-8.30am breakfast
9-9.30am nap for half an hour to three quarters of an hour
sometime between 10am-11am snack breastfeed
12noon-12.30pm lunch
1.30pmish nap for one hour
3-3.30pm snack breastfeed
5pm tea
5.30pm nappy off time
6-6.30pm bath, baby massage, story
6.45pm final long breastfeed then brush gums and bed

I hope you don't mind me joining in, its nice to have somewhere to write all this down!

All the babies are doing really well!

Well I gave my DD some toast today and she loved it, I think im going to introduce weetabix today as well and some other finger foods.I have to go down town anyway so will pick asome things for her.

She enjoyed her toast and was learning to chew and is a very happy girly now.

Id lke ideas though in finger foods though, I know I should know this but stephen wasnt a baby that developed normally and he didnt eat finger food as he couldnt hold anything till he was 2 1/2 because of his late developement so any help would be much appreciated cos when it coimes to finger food im very much a beginner.
