*** Weaning Thread *** (Stage two yet?)

Today Lola has had a half a jar of summer fruits and a rusk

She seems to prefer feeding herself but when i gave her the spoon she put it in her mouth too far and nearly made herself sick, Then started screaming when i took it off her so she couldn't do it again

Lol...looks like we are all having fun with the feeding! what are you all using? homemade or jars? we started out on the Cow and Gate, Healthy Balance but i am trying him on the Heinz Mums Own this week and he loves the dinners especially the Irish Stew with Gammon, he likes the Ellas Kitchen puddings so it looks like he has made a choice....
Whats everyones favorites?...(babies that is)

I haven't posted here yet (I don't think). We're firing on all cylinders with the feeding - Dylan loves his food. I'm enjoying all the cooking - it makes me feel good when I see him tucking into it. His favourite is fruit - he just loves it....to start with I blended everything down with a blender but now I'm giving lumps (only soft ones though like banana, papaya, plum etc). He likes soup, and most vegetables too. I'm waiting another few weeks before I introduce any meat. The only packaged food I use is a breakfast cereal, as I thought that he will always have cereal in the morning. At the mo his routine looks like this:

7am - breastfeed
8am - breakfast cereal with tub of fruit puree (those tommee tippee ones so quite a lot!)
9am - breastfeed then sleep for about an hour
11.30am - BF
12.30 - soup or vegetable dish (eg parnip & carrot) then some fruit puree, sometimes with bits of fruit for him to try to hold and chew
2.30pm - BF
4.30pm - BF
5.30pm - soup or veg dish with some finger food (just plays with it really just now though), then fruit puree
7pm - bf & Bed

It's not followed 100% every day - I just BF him when he wants it and it depends on what we're doing that day. Sometimes he sleeps a few times throughout the day & sometimes he doesn't. He sits in his highchair although he can't sit up unaided, but I put towels at his side to help him balance. He also uses the Tommee Tippee cup and can hold it himself and put it up to his mouth but he hasn't quite grasped the tilting part yet! Wow, I've typed a lot as usual

Hiya girls...can I join you???

I have a few questions I need to ask..

I have just started weaning Fynn from last week.. I started off with baby porridge on a morning for a few mornings.. but he didnt seem interested in it.. so I skipped the breakfast and went onto the little jars at dinner time.. half a jar of main meal and half a jar of pudding.. and he loves it (I started off with a couple of spoonfuls at first, now he eats the full half of each jar).

Firstly, I wanna know if Im giving him enough food.. he has -

7.30am - 7 oz bottle (but leaves a couple of ozs)
10.30am - 6 oz bottle
12.30pm - half a jar of main meal and half a jar of desert and some juice
(no bottle)
3.30pm - 6 oz bottle
6.30pm - 7 oz bottle

He sleeps right thru from 6.45pm til 7.30am without waking and isnt showing any signs of being hungry.

I am thinking about introducing baby porridge again for breakfast.. which will bring him onto 2 meals a day aswell as his 4 bottles... will that be ok??

I was more concerned whether I was feeding him enough.. he does seem happy enough tho. I dont know if this is relevant or not, but he was 7lb 3oz when born and is now 18lb 8oz..so he certainly isnt starving!

Thanx in advance

Jesus, 18lb at 4 months... Ryan was 15lb 14.5oz 2 weeks ago...

I'd say if he's not waking early then hes probably fine on what he already has.

We just upped Ryan to 3 meals a day yesterday as he was waking hungry at 2am again.

Our routine (ish)...
6am BF
Play and Sleep
9am BF
Play and Sleep
12 BF
2pm Jar of fruit/veg
Play and Big Sleep
6pm Jar of dinner food
630pm 7oz Bottle
7pm Bed

Oh and I brushed his teef for the first time last night and he liked it :cheer:

Yeah on brushing Ryan's teeth :cheer: I need to buy a brush this weekend.

I'm struggling with weaning TBH. I'm sticking with same sort of routine but some days he seems to love eating his dinners other days he just isn't interested  I feel as though i'm doing something wrong. :wall:

Foxxi: That sounds fine to me, Jack was about same weight as your LO. :D

Sounds like all other LO's are doing good anyway!! Just wish Jack would get the hang of it

Shell - I seen your other thread.. did you know my original due date was 14/08/2007!!! Had him 2 days early though :D

OMG!! That so strange Lola was also due 14/08/07 but was 12 days late

Today Lola had a rusk at breakfast time but didn't really eat any just played with it and had a full jar of cow and gate mango suprise at dinner time. I've also started to give her juice in the sippy cup but without the top on because she just couldn't figure it out.

leckershell - Well done on brushing Ryan's teeth :cheer:

Sweetcheeks24 - We're the same we don't really have a routine and sometimes she's really not bothered about her food then other times really enjoys it :)

Foxxi - Lola has never had baby porridge as my sister started weaning before me and her little boy didn't like it so i never bothered trying it.

You should keep persevering with the sippy cup, ryan now gets it and actually drinks from it. Admittedly a lot comes out too, but he does get some :) how cool that there's other 14/08 due date people!! Ryan 10 days late tho..

He's had 3 meals again today - baby rice this morning, apple and banana jar at lunchtime, and sweet potato (that id done) this evening. washed down with a 7oz bottle.

:D

He enjoyed the teeth brushing by the way, I think it helps them come through so probably itched them for him right where they hurted.. :)

Hi

I am the same as some of you where some days Charlotte eats fine, then others she isn't interested. SO it must be normal then

She is also puking a lot so we are going to try and give her less milk and see if that helps.

How much milk are your babies having? (of course you wont know if you are BF). I am just worried about Charlotte not getting enough and waking hungry in the night again. I just want to get the right balance with food and milk but its quite tricky at 1st i think as they vary so much.

:)

Hi Girls

Would it be ok if I join u - I have a few questions and need some help please.

Chloe has been sleeping through the night since she was 6 weeks old, she used to do 6-7 hours without a feed and that has gradually increased as she has got older. She now gets her last bottle at 10.30pm and doesn't wake til 7.30am, I currently feed her 9oz every 5 hours during the day but looking at all these post I am now majorly concerned I am not feeding my little princess enough

Here is how my LO feeds:

7.30am - 9oz Bottle
12.30pm - 9oz Bottle
5.30pm - 9oz Bottle
10.30pm - 9oz Bottle then bed

So all in all she is having 36oz in a 24 hour period, is that ok at her age?

I have another problem though, she has recently started stirring during the night, which i now put down to not being fed enough. Should I change her bottle times to every 4 hours and at what times, or should I stick with what I have just now and maybe introduce solids? And what time and with what?

Sorry for all the Q's and the long post.

I am so confused - please help :?

Hiya Ismith1984

Her milk sounds fine, I know she's not having as many bottles as the other babies but she is having 9oz each bottle. I think it's something like 28-35oz per day so she's ok.

If she's starting to stir in the night I would start thinking about introducing solids. Obviously they say to wait until 6 months if possible but baby rice would be a good place to start at 4 months?

Speak to your HV if your really unsure though, mine came round to see me and really put my mind at rest

Newmum:

I want to get the Annabel Carmel books and start cooking, at moment i'm still using the jars but think i'll feel more confident if I have a cook book!!

Well everyone. I went out yesterday and got Jack a new sippy cup, the teat bit is a little softer and the cup is a lot smaller so I think he'll have a better chance of using it so going to try that again.

I'm off to water babies swim class soon so hope you all have a good day

I got this one:

31AI1KLBMgL._SX315_SY375_.jpg

It's quite small, I gave it to him yesterday and straight away he took a drink of water from it no problems. I was so proud of him!! :cheer:

I still haven't increased his feeding past his breakfast and dinner yet, I don't feel he's ready.

Didn't realise weaning would be so confusing  Guess we have to trust our instinct with it.

It's from mothercare, just one of their own range. I love it cos it's small so Jack is able to use it a lot easier.

I don't know about spreading the bottles out  I know for Jack I use 2oz of his milk in morning to make his breakfast then give him rest (just upped him to 9oz) for dinner I give him that at about 1:30 now so by 2:30 which is his normal feed time he is ready for bottle. I try not to give him at the same time else he leaves it.

Is LO draining all the bottle? If so it may be worth giving more oz's??
