TW weaning thread

Great Thread!!

I've just started R with Baby porridge for the last 3 days and she absolutely loves it!!

Today I also tried mashed Banana with a bit of formula which she was ok with!!

These last 3 days her reflux has been much much less and she's been much more settled.

So so far so good!

Looking to introduce carrot, sweet potatoe and pear in the next couple of weeks!!

I have no problems with using jars/packs (will probably use them myself when out and about) but enjoying making her food at the moment!

Great thread!

Ive been weaning Ella for a while now I do TW for breakfast and tea and then give toast for her to eat by herself and rusks too.

I don't make my own stuff, I don't really get the chance to do it! So hoping to prepare my own when she is a bit older and eating the same stuff as me!

Pasta bolognese is Ella's fav along with broccoli and cauliflower!

It's honestly really easy to do your own :) I just set it going while I watch tv then quickly blitz it in the blender thing and put into pots. Tomorrow is going to be my evening to do it and I'll make about 2 weeks worth of breakfasts and teas and then just freeze them and get them out the night before for the next days breakfast and tea. I think I probably will end up using more jars though if I work this summer and MIL has LO for the day.

Littlemiss Ella's is dairy/lactose free mostly and that's why I use it for cam, it's all written on the back of the sachets, the breakfast ones aren't dairy free though as they contain yoghurt x

I agree its so easy to make your own, I need to get a bit more variety but for example I boil half a bag of potatoes, mash them (with no salt/butter) & split it up into freezer bags, I use an ice cream scoop. I do the same with carrots. I just need to do a bit of experimenting to see what else I can easily cook once a week and freeze (it really is easy) its just the thinking thats the hard part, I eat really bland foods & find it hard to find things a bit more exciting for LO.

Oh and thats a shame about the rusks.

Is everyone else giving toast? I've not been giving toast coz I thot i'd read somewhere not to give wheat til 1 yr (maybe it was just for CMA babies). I gave it with my 1st LO tho so cant imagine it an issue.

xxxxxxx

I'm going to try toast tomorrow :) and see what she makes of it. My nursery nurse said she can have scrambled egg as well so I'm looking forward to trying that with her

I've been doing a bit of both mainly te since he was 4months. We've started him on baby rice and he's now on pureed fruit and beg and rusk for breakfast. We also give him things to gum at as he's teethin like rusks, cucumber, melon. Here a couple of pics xxx

Hello!!

I've been feeding Jax since he was 24 weeks old. Started on babyrice which he hated and then pretty quickly moved to Annabel Karmel recipes that I make myself in batches and then freeze. He is now on 3 meals a day and for the last week or so he has been having slightly lumpier food. At first it was making him gag but he really quickly got the hang of it and now loves it!! For breakfast he just has either Weetabix, Ready Brek or baby porridge and/or toast fingers. I've also given him french bread, banana, organix rice cakes, biscuits and carrot sticks, cheese, madaleine sponge cakes, melon, strawberries...erm...think thats about it so far!

Some of his favourites purees/lumpy purees have been/are:

Lovely Lentils
Spinach with peas and sweet potato
Fish with vegetables and cheese sauce
Peppers, cauliflower and sweetcorn in cheese sauce
Chicken with sweet potato and apple
Sweet vegetable puree

I also occasionally give him petit filous which he has only just started liking!!

Whats everyone giving their LOs for lunch? x

I just give purees for lunch and dinner - a different flavour each time. We had a picnic on the beach on Saturday evening and I gave him melon, stawberries, cheese, breadsticks and hummus, bread etc.

Manda, I think it was you who posted on another thread that your doctor advised you to wean early to help your lo gain weight. Just wondering if it helped? K is 15 weeks and less than 11lbs. She is 96 percentile for length and 5th for weight. I plan on talking to our doc about it but her next appointment isn't until she is 18 weeks. Xx

Hey hun, we started weaning when Jack was 16 weeks. Mainly because we felt he was ready and also because he was very light and was only gaining a maximum of 4oz every month!!! He has never 'enjoyed' milk and even now can only manage 4-5oz per feed!! However he still doesn't put much weight on and was 18lbs exactly in January and is only 18lb 8oz now so he's only gained 8oz in 5months!!! We've come to accept he's just got a very fast metabolism. He's a fantastic eater and is happy and reaching all of his milestones so we're in no way worried about how slim he is. I just wanted to tell you that weaning a slimmer baby doesn't automatically mean they'll gain weight quicker. However if you think it would work for your LO and she's ready for food then go for it! I'm glad we weaned earlier than 6 months because he's fantastic with his food x

yes i would echo what clairebear said, we have a slim baby - and weaning her has not made her put weight on at all so wouldn't do it just for that reason, just wait until you think they are ready!

Thanks girls I've bought the Annabel Karmel weaning book; I think it looks good. We're away at the moment so I'm gonna give the recipes a go properly when we get back. xx.

Brilliant thread. I will be tw Joshua. Its how I was fed and I turned out fine. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for tips etc. don't intend on starting until between 5 and 6 months, unless he starts guzzling his bottles. Currently still only just managing 7-8ozs 5 times a day.xx

Today we have been to hospital and weaning is to begin!!!!! 12 weeks on Thursday he's guzzling his 9oz bottles and reflux seems to be getting worse!!!!! Bring on the food!!!!

xxx

One of Jack'sfavouritemeals when he first started weaning was sweet potato & bean bake. It's very simple to make if anyone's interested in the recipe? I'm not at home this week so if anyone wants it i'll post it early next week. His fave by far was (and still is) cauliflower & broccoli cheese :)

Today we had pizza hut for lunch. Jack had half a ton of cous cous from the salad cart for free!!! He loved it!! :) x
