*** November 2014 Mummies! ***

sounds really stupid considering ive already had a baby but how many vests, sleepsuits etc will i need for the first few months?

Gonna start going through them all tomorrow and washing them so they can be put away until october but im clueless at how much i need :/

My friend from school is annoying me on Facebook :@

He's made it clear before he isn't a fan of babies but he posted today:

"Why are humans so fucking shit? Most other species' babies know how to walk when they are first born, our little shits struggle to crawl"

I told him because of evolution, as a baby our brains are too big when we're born to hold up so we're evolutionary superior in that sense. Another friend from school joined in the conversation about evolution and all was going nicely. I said "Same reason babies evolve to be cute so we look after them? Its the reason their cry evolved to be hard to listen to so we would respond to them! :)" Quotes follow...

"But babies are ugly as fuck, and the crying makes me want to shoot myself"

I said his baby hatred was a bit boring (Hello you're talking to a pregnant woman!?) and he said "So is the screeching of new borns"

Grrrrr

Pheonix thats so harsh of him...i would either not reposnd to such an insensitive male idiot or de-friend him.

Welcome boy2!

Katie lovely bump developing.....isnt it too early to wash clothes yet?

Girls i have been worrying about something for a couple of days now. From 16 weeks i have felt baby kove almost everyday and for 4 days now nothing...i wish i had a doppler to put my mind at rest. But is this normal to not feel baby for a few days? I have a scan on tuesday but doesnt stop me worrying about it at the back of my mind!

If I was you I'd contact your midwife just for a bit of reassurance if anything. Im sure its probably nothing though, baby has probably moved position or something.

Phoenix is this guy single by any chance? Can't imagine many happily coupled up guys saying this. I'd keep his as a friend, just in case one day he somehow finds someone to reproduce with. Then I'd remind him what he said about all babies being ugly!

Babyphoenix, I'd just tell him that shooting himself sounds like the best option for everyone.

Mellie, glad you've been feeling movements!

Welcome 2boys, I haven't found out yet but I am in just under 2 weeks, at my 20 week scan. A couple of weeks ago I was tempted to get an early scan but I resisted, didn't really want to spend the money.

Apple, some days I don't feel anything and some days there's loads going on in there. I think when the baby is low down in the uterus I feel more because there's less fat on my stomach there, but when it's higher up, nearer my belly button, that's where my fat is so if it's up there I'm less likely to feel it. Sometimes I find that when I'm resting in bed, if I put my hand on my stomach and press down lightly it starts kicking, as if it's pushing me off. Or perhaps the squishing is just pushing the wall of my uterus more towards the baby so I feel it more. It doesn't always work though, just depends where the little one is floating around at the time.

What is everyone's opinion on secondhand baby clothes? I've started looking on ebay for cute little babygrows and my wife is adamant that I'm not buying it anything secondhand. She says 'new baby, new clothes'. When I point out that she got loads of hand me downs for her kids, she says that's different because it's from family and that it's disgusting to clothe a new baby in things that other babies have weed and pooed in. Well, I don't have any friends or family with little ones, to give me stuff. She says not to bother buying anything because I'll get loads as gifts - but I want to buy cute things that I want to dress the baby in and I don't see what's wrong with secondhand as long as they're washed through well!

It's really annoyed me, because she said she is going to put her foot down on this one and not 'let' me buy any secondhand clothes.

I just wish i had a doppler.... :-(

I for some reason am a bit funny about second hand baby clothes....where as Equipment wise. ie, baby carrier, jumperoo and travel cots..etc i will definately buy second hand on ebay...but im funny about the idea of clothes from people i dont know...I think i want things to touch baby to be fresh?!?
I realise this is stupid, ilogical and maybe will change but its where my head is!

I think that's where my wife's thinking is coming from. It's just frustrating, it was fine for her, she had two older sisters with babies just before she had hers, so she had plenty of secondhand clothes coming to her. Given that I've been made redundant, I'm trying to keep costs down.

I know how you feel about the doppler, I was like that a couple of weeks ago. I got my first movement early then nothing for two and a half weeks, and I was really starting to get stressed about it. I was reallly tempted to buy a doppler but I didn't in the end and the movements started again. I'm sure you'll be okay, they say movements still aren't felt regularly at this stage, but it is difficult not to worry.

Thanks...im in tears bawling my eyes out. OH is away so i have no rational voice with me. Reality is in two days i will have scan so should just sit tight. Very reassuring to hear your post.

Is your OH the youngest sibling when she was growing up? I was the youngest and had hand me downs my whole life so wondering whether that it maybe where our issues with second hand clothes are coming from?

I would say if money is on your mind with your redundancy go with second hand clothes...they really will not be wearing them for very long and you will get clothes as gifts so your baby will have some new stuff. Stat firm on this...i hate wasting money...show her the spreadsheet, there will be plenty of stuffto buy any way :-)

Do i recall you have your family over this afternoon...the nosy ones?

Aww, don't get upset! It really is early days as far as movements are concerned - some people don't feel them at all yet. I know it's worrying, but baby is probably just tucked towards the back or the top where you can't feel it. Is it your 20 week scan in two days, or a private one?

She's one of 4, middle girl but didn't seem to mind hand me downs for her kids. It seems to be an 'other people are dirty' thing. I hate wasting money too, but she calls me tight! :D I'm not going to buy all things second hand but there are some cute things on ebay that I wouldn't pay full price for otherwise.

The family thing was yesterday, but we missed the nosy ones by seconds, they were pulling off the drive to leave as we got there, what a shame! So I sat in the sunshine with the nice members of the family instead.

Ive been given loads of baby clothes from a friend, half of it was unused or barely worn. As I'm sure a lot of the things on ebay are.

I also went a car boot this morning and there was baby clothes EVERYWHERE! Some of what I've brought is brand new with labels on still. I'd say its worth having a nose round one as some of the stuff is really good quality. We just cant afford to kit baby out with all new things.

Oh I got a brand new travel cot for £5 too this morning :)

That's what I've been trying to tell her - that most baby stuff is barely worn. But she says some other baby has still pooed in it, so it's not clean enough. I wouldn't care, but neither of us are particularly anal about cleanliness, housework is only done on a 'needs must' basis.

I haven't seen any car boots nearby, but I'm keeping an eye out for NCT nearly new sales, perhaps if I go and inspect for poo stains she'll be happier than me buying off ebay!

She had a fit when I told her I was going to try out the council's nappy scheme before I invested in cloth nappies. You get given a range of them for 3 weeks to try out, see what styles you like. I assume they are used by others before me but I also assume the council make sure they are thoroughly cleaned, but she was beyond disgusted! :D I can see her point on secondhand nappies, but I don't want to invest in the wrong type of cloth nappies and waste several hundred pounds!

That travel cot is a proper bargain, well done!

Definitely have a look out for car boots, because then at least you can see and judge the stuff first. Ebays more hit and miss so it might end up being quite well worn.
You can search for all the nearby car boots on this site.

Its worth having a nose round for other baby bits then maybe if you see any nice bits of clothes you might be able to bring your OH round to the idea more.

I have to say I think second hand baby clothes are a great idea as they grow so quickly also it is prefect recycling.

Applecrumble it probably is a little early to wash them but some of the clothes I was given second hand smell a bit weird so id rather them have a good wash now :-)

Plus the more baby stuff I sort the more time I have with my daughter in the end!

Determined to have everything ready by September as we are going on holiday and just wanna relax when I return home

I'd probably wash them soon, then do a fresh wash nearer the time.

Where are you going Katie? We're still not sorted for our summer holiday, going at the beginning of August and still not found anywhere!

Just demolished my first ever proper craving... a large bag of sweet popcorn!

Not yet started on getting clothes, so going to be looking online this week to see what is available. Trying to keep costs down as well, as got wedding to save up for next year!

I have been buying lots of clothes in all the sales just now only spending £3 or£4 for a outfit or I had bought some vests etc when asda had a baby event on.i bought a lovely outfit hopefully Xmas day outfit from mamas and papas the original price was£47 but I got it for £14 :)

Oh yes asda has a sale on now. Think the next sale is meant to be September so just in time for our babies. I love a good sale bargain.

I need to go the mamas and papas outlet in Birmingham again, last time I didnt know what we were having so it was hard to buy.

I don't mind second hand stuff either. I get a lot of stuff from my sisters. One of my neices just turned 1 so my sister still has her baby clothes for me. But of course there's nothing like being new and having fresh clothing on your new born. All our newborn stuff will prob be brand new. We just pick up bit by bit when we are out shopping. Got a fair bit already.
I'm so excited for my 20 week scan tomorrow can't wait to see Piper again. I'm feeling her movements more and more to which is lovely.

Nicejuicypear yes would rather try and get rid of the smell now and then another quick wash later on before I pack them away in the drawers
