Mummies Running Club :D

Well oh came in after 9 holes so I'm here, just got my number and the race starts in just over half an hour, agh I'm so nervous!!!!

Yeah fab news! Best of luck sassy-I'm sure you'll do great! :)

Well I'm home in one piece!!

It turned out to be 10.4km - I didn't read my run details very well lol, (although my 'I map my run' app clocked it at 10.65km but don't know how accurate it would be? Or maybe I weaved across the route too many times ) It was a really scenic route which was on the road for a bit at the start and then went along a stream, at some points I could have done with having my spikes on instead of my trainers, but it was really nice and the weather was good too.

I know it doesn't sound like a big difference but I really struggled after I got to 6 miles (I have my app to tell me my speed every mile rather than every km).

I completed it in 53:35. I'm super pleased with this as I haven't been out running in nearly 2 weeks  Plus I went off quickly, I always do as I get carried away with the other runners.

I've just checked the results and there were 9 women in my category and I came 5th, I was only 5 mins slower than the first woman home. I also beat 7 men!! :yay:

So now the question is, how sore will I be in the morning?? I have a riding lesson first thing, god, I don't think I'll be able to get on the horse

That's a fantastic time well done! I hope you feel okay this morning :-)

Thank you :-) I haven't got out of bed yet but I can feel my legs are going to be sore......

Hope everyones having a lovely bank holiday weekend, hows everyones training coming along?
Hope you werent too achy Sassy, you did fab.
Ive just got back in from a 12 miler, struggled towards the end as the weather changed and i got caught in a down pour and heavy winds but i didnt give up :) x x

Ooof 12 miles. How long till the marathon now?

Training is going ok now. Going to do a long run a week that's 4-6 miles and do 2 interval runs 30 minutes long during the week. Hoping this will help get my speed up. Did a 3 miler yesterday in 33 minutes which I was quite pleased with. I want to learn to sustain my 10 minute miles though. 4 mile hill run tomorrow. I know it doesn't stick to my plan but it sounds like fun so doing it with my mum :)

AM you're doing really well hun, that's nice that you can go out running with your mum :-)

M2A how's your knee today after your 12 miler.

I haven't been as sore as I thought I would which is a nice surprise :-)

Been looking at more runs, they do a local marathon on 16th sept (defo not ready for that ) but they also do a 10k and 5k that day too so thinking I might enter one of them, thinking of the 5k as its a nice length.

Well I've just finished my nights this morning (thank God!) so hasn't been a fantastic weekend for me! I'm just getting ready o go out for a 12 miler......Trying to figure a route out that's nice & scenic. I hate long boring runs! This will also be my longest training run! Going to Zizi's for dinner tonight so hopefully the thought of that should get me around lol. :)

Just over 6 weeks now Mel, its getting quite scary, the thought of running another 14.2miles on the top of this mornings run, just hope im going to make it around, may training has taken a massive blow because of my injury, should of been doing atleast a 15-18 miler this weekend!
You are doing fab, maintaining speed will come when your body gets used to running the distance, it all seems to come together, so im sure your not far off that 10 min/mile pace :)

My knee isnt feeling to bad now Sassy, slightly niggerly but its normally after ive slept that it starts to stiffen up and starts clicking, aching and hurting especially on stairs but ive been doing alot of leg strengthening and stretching exercises when i do my core training so hopefully that should help, im on the pomegranate juice as well which is meant to help with any inflammation.
Have you got the bug back now Sassy?

I was reading my runners world mag and The Hell Run looks great but its only 3 weeks after my marathon, so just from the title im thinking its probably not a great idea!

Goodluck with your 12 miler Red Nursie, keep hydrated. Do you use gels? x x

I only did 10.8 miles in the end as it was getting late & quite dark. I don't use gels at the moment but I think I will start....Think I'll have to for these long runs? I felt really thirsty after about 7 miles this evening which I know isn't good. Do you carry a drink with you? I know I could easily carry a gel but wouldn't water be awkward to carry? At the moment all i take when im running is my ipod shuffle which is so small & easy to carry as it just clips on & i also wear my nike plus GPS sprtswatch (which i love!) Was going to buy some more running gear with pockets for gels? Does anyone have any recommendations? maybe this is the excuse I need an excuse to go shopping for some kit :)

Well done on 10.8 miles hun, that's great!!

I bought a running water bottle on eBay, you can get different sizes, I went for the 300ml which is fine but I'm glad there was water on the course the other day too (it was a warm day). It's easy to run with :-)

I have a pair of joggers that have a little pocket at the back but it would only fit maybe 2 gels in it. Back when I ran the marathon I had a running belt (like a bum bag) and I could fit a few gels in it, felt weird running with it at first but you get used to it. There are quite a few bargains on eBay

I carry a water bottle and i have a belt for my gels hun, if you have a running shop near you, they should have a range of thing, you can try them then to see whats comfy.

I cant believe youve just ran 10.8miles without a drink, be careful hunny, dehydration isnt a very nice thing.

When buying gels, experiment with different makes as some dont agree with everyone, i use high5, but alot of people i know use SIS, they dont taste great but they do work x x

Well hello ladies.

As you have seen iv not posted for a while. To be honest, I stopped running for a bit. I won't go into the excuses but bit of a stressful few weeks.

In that time I made a big decision. I have pulled out of the half marathon :( i came to the conclusion that at my weight and fitness level it is too much for me, I can barely run 5 mins without needing to stop and I'm not following a beginners training programme as they are not designed for half marathons in 13 weeks with no basic fitness. Found myself feeling sick about it all so I spoke to those close to me and have taken the decision to be sensible and start a beginners running plan, build up some fitness and run a 5k then a 10k for leukaemia research in the next 6-12 months.

I feel quite silly, down and sad about it all but I'm now starting from my level and going back out and running again. Hope everyone understands :(

Sassy you done so well, you should be so proud! Sounds like everyone else is doing great too!

Princess, the bugaboo isn't a buggy u can run wiv but iv found at the snails pace I move at on flat surface in the park it goes along ok. Unfortunately its the only way I can get out at the moment. If I start to increase my speed I will look into a jogger I think.

So that's me, feeling poop but really keen to get somewhere.

Hope u are all well xx

Pos - you shouldn't feel silly hun, i know its abit disheartening but you are doing the right thing if you feel you wont be ready in time.
Theres a lot of great plans out there for 5k and 10k, my mum used couch to 5k and the bridge to 10k and loved them :) x x

Thanks m2a, I am really gutted about it :( but I know it's the right thing to do. I will have a look at those plans, thank u xx

Thank you ladies. I shall pop into runners need & Nike town for some supplies, cicam off work now fOr a few days after all of my night shifts :)
Pos don't feel bad hun! At least you're getting back out there with a new training plan. Don't beat yourself up. Good luck with your new training plan Hun

Have fun shopping Red Nursie :)

Ive just ordered myself a new bra, a shock absorber one as ive had really bad friction from my other ones especially on long runs, its really sore now because my normal bra's are rubbing on it :(x x
