Ladies doing their first cycle of IUI or IVF.

Hey girls, still come in to read about you all! Blondy cant believe your back!! Hope for some IUI/IVF BFP's so soon.

Ive actually got a question about IVF as my sister is currently in the process of it. I had IUI so the comparisons stop now really as shes at the egg collection stage now. She had her final scan today and had 8 or 9 follicles she said. Shes to take het booster tomorrow night then go in for the egg retreival on Thurs and her oh sperm sample. I havea few questions if anyone can answer them.

How many follicles is good/normal?
From that how many fertilise normally?
How many days between the eggs out til tbey get put back in?

Just popped on to see how you all were, and I think I can deffo help with this question.
Firstly it depends a lot and I think its fair to say quality over quantity, also age is a ig factor on how many follicles will grow and with regards to fertilization it depends if ivf or icsi is being used (ISCI tends to be used with male factor) but I will give you rough guidelines

1, Roughly clinics look for around 10-15 follicles and around 80% will contain eggs, so anything from 8 to 15 eggs is considered good, but saying that girls with less have got bfps straight away, if you get more you are at risk of OHSS and it means they will prob freeze them and continue at a later date (bit of a pain but its on a frozen cycle after this happening that I got my bfp)

2, They say with standard ivf around 50% fertilize and ICSI about 70%

3, after retirival they normally do a day 3 or 5 transfer but it is possible to have a day 2 or 4, the clinic will make that choice normally depending on how the embryos are doing, any spare embryos can be frozen

Hope that helps xxx

Brill thanks for that! She is to see how the sample is on the day to see if its IVF or ICSI but reading this then it seems as though ICSI would be best?

No change for me ladies so still injecting. Next scan is on Friday. At my first scan the progress seemed great, I expected it to continue... Of course I totally forgot to mention to the nurse about the ovulation signs I had at the weekend, I had an early appointment and my brain wasn't quite in gear!! :dohh: x

Hi ladies! Can I ask a question about IVF timescales? The consultant told me to see a nurse on Day 1 about starting but I can’t remember if he said that you start the meds on Day 1. I expect it would take a while to get them ordered and delivered so maybe you don’t start till later in the cycle? Or is it maybe the following cycle? Confused!
:eh:

On iui I've started injecting around day 3/4. They like to wait til the lining is really thin first. Not sure if ivf is different though.

:oooo:

Its going to depend on the protocol because they are all different if you are on antagonist, Long Lupron etc I had to start the pill from first day of period and then went back up after 15 days and started the injections but if you are down regulating then you will start on the down reg drugs first...

I think gems is right, I'm on antagonist cycle, started Stimms on day 4. A friend of mine is on something a week or 2 before she starts stimms.

Feeling it tonight, not sure if it's normal to feel wiped on injections. Feels strange in my tummy. Too, defo feel something happening..next scan on sat am. Fingers crossed for some follies. Work being amazing, letting me change all my shifts to suit me and stay stress free. As work mixture of shifts.

Miss J fx for progress on Friday! Maybe they will increase your dose again if still slow??
Lucy that's great your work are so understanding. Mine are too and it really helps. Would be so much more stressful if they were difficult.
That's good you can feel the stimms working, hope they don't wipe you out too much. I'm on a low dose so don't feel too different, I hope it is doing something though!!

Missjuly I'll keep hoping for you Friday.

It does make all the difference doesn't it blondy. Less stress too, they told me they don't want me being stressed. Considering they are guys I had to speak to they have been brilliant but they are quite up to scratch on the situ as I'm not the first person in office to do ivf.

Need a good sleep to try and catch up as got so much other stuff going on as well as this. I'm on a huge dose. Average is 150-300iu of menopur. I'm on 450 lol I'm sure your meds are doing something too...

I was on short antagonist protocol with contraceptives... On day 1 of my cycle I started taking the oral contraceptive - normal pill. Which I took for 3 weeks. In that time the rest of the meds were delivered. 1 St scan was 3 weeks later and that's when I started with Gonal F. Cetrotide started 5 days later.

Thanks girls, my next scan is tomorrow so fx there's been progress.
I had some really uncomfortable aches and cramps last night mainly on my left side, I actually ended up going to bed early and having to curl up in a ball cos of it. Had some ewcm again too.. So confusing, I seem to be feeling a lot more than my scans are telling us lol. :trouble:

Hope you're all doing ok.

P.s as for side effects, I'm only on 112.5 of gonal f (a tiny dose!) and I have mood swings, tiredness and nausea. :oooo: the nurses seem surprised that I have the effects that I do but I guess everyone's different.

X

It sounds really complicated! I'll have to phone the clinic to ask which programme I'll be on. :thanks:

Hope your scan goes well today missj!

Mine went good - will go back on Tuesday for egg retrieval. Not looking forward to that, but will most definantly use the drugs they've given me. Lol

Don't they sedate you for the egg retrieval? I expect it might be sore afterwards.

Hey ladies, I had my scan.

I felt super disappointed that yet again, not much was happening but after the cramps I had the other night, I knew there had to be a change, especially on my left as that's where I felt the cramps.
My ovaries did not disappoint. :yay:

For the first time since starting iui, my left ovary has decided to pitch in and has grown 4 follicles, one 10mm, two 8mm and one 9mm! My right ovary has three follicles, two 10mm's and one 9mm. So we have some great follicles coming along nicely but we really only need those 10's to continue growing, we are allowed to go ahead with a maximum of 3 follicles and we happen to have 3 at 10mm but we also have 2 at 9mm... So we are to continue with the gonal f and have another scan on Monday. I am feeling very positive again, I know we can't guarantee success by follicle size or number but the quantity and sizes do make me feel more positive!! We have been warned of the possibility of multiples should we get a bfp.. Which DH said he is fine with.
Just need to hope and pray that only those dominant follies will continue because any more than 3 and we will have to abandon the cycle and obviously we don't want that to happen.

How is everyone else? X

That's good missjuly. Keep everything crossed for you. Let's hope they do what they are supposed to.

Glad your scan went well esperanza.

I'm feeling exhausted, all I want to do is sleep. I had another acupuncture session today and I had something called moxibustion. Where they light a herb on the end of some needles, I was falling asleep within a couple of mins, lol.. Least I can stop and relax now.. Got my first scan since treatment has started tomorrow, so fingers crossed the follies are starting to grow. Even managed to inject myself last night, yay!! Right I need a nap now!
