Ladies doing IVF or IUI - 2015 (9 BFPs!)

I didn't drink at all during entire IVF process or the months leading up to it, I wanted to give my eggs the best chance, I am not a big drinker anyway so not much of a sacrifice but I was advised by my acupuncturist not to drink and the nurse at the IVF clinic advised at neither of us drink at all to give best chance and also if didn't work, we couldn't question that occasional drink played a part xx

Thank you for explaining that Blueflower makes sense to me now. I know 1 a day seems way too many, different docs all tell you different things I wonder if it's more opinion then medical profession!
I hope your consultant comes back to you soon xx

Yes 7 a week would be too much for me, I wouldn't feel right! I heard someone on here's consultant said don't change your lifestyle until you get your BFP but if I had 3 glasses of wine on a Friday after embryo transfer I'd feel terrible! I think if you normally like a drink it can make you miserable to abstain completely unless you know you're definitely pregnant and that can't help either! If you don't normally drink then it must be easy! It was DH's Birthday after ET in the spring and I had soft drinks when we went out, but it would have felt like poisoning my embryos if I'd had wine! (Even though they didn't make it anyway. :( ) I've already bought some light beers just for the weekends and then it will be no alcohol after ET. I always say nothing for a year what with the pregnancy and then breastfeeding!

I asked DH to help and said I needed someone not affected by hormones to think clearly about what to do! (AF arrived earlier!) He emailed the lab and they said his results are expected back in the middle of next week, phew! So I start down regging tomorrow! :oooo:

Off you go again blueflower! Goooood luck! Xxx

All going ahead now Blueflower, that's great that results will be back in good time xx

Yep I'm with you girls no drinking through the whole process, like you Lisey its not really a sacrifice is it.
Good luck blueflower glad it's full steam ahead xx

Done my first injection tonight....eek! Not as bad as I thought alhough didnt really like the feeling of the liquid goin in! Our journey has started! Good luck ladies xx

Fab blueflower now u can relax for a moment!! Good luck xx I had 2 glasses of wine when we did ivf just because after EC and before transfer we were on a narrow boat holiday with friends so one night I had 2 glasses of red wine! This time I have been more laid back and had the odd glass of wine when I fancied.

Got transfer on Tuesday so no alcohol from now on, I can't see how an odd glass of wine will affect things but I would not have any after transfer. You still need to try and enjoy the little things in life whilst going through this emotional rollercoaster!

Good luck ivf ladies, can't wait to see some bfp's!!! Xxx

How exciting Poispinner!!! Was it an epi pen style injection?

Well done Poispinner! Did you do it yourself? DH does mine as I hate needles but have got used to them after all the IVF, I counted we did 50 injections last cycle! I am going to try to do one myself this time in case DH goes away, I had to drive to my friend's house 40 minutes drive away one evening last time so she could do my injection! I'd just had the scratch and was exhausted so it wasn't ideal. But I like him to do them as it means he's involved.

Just did my first nasal spray, it was fine but I don't think it sprayed properly on one side. Didn't want to overdose so will make sure I do it properly this evening. AF is very light, hope its a proper one and not like the wierd one last year after iui where I had a mini AF then a proper one 2 weeks late! Lining was 7.5 a week before the ERA and I kept up with the progesterone in case we'd been lucky so there should be plenty! Hopefully it won't matter although I can't imagine you're allowed to stim until the lining is thin again? So complicated!

Good luck with your appointments ladies. X x

It's so complicated isn't it! Im pretty sure I'll be counting tomorrow as day one so will probs start my gonal f and steroids Saturday, I'm hoping I won't have to bother with the baseline scan if full flow comes too late in the day tomorrow to call it in to the clinic as that's a gross scan! One of the nurses I spoke to who is different to my normal nurse said often they don't bother with a baseline scan in a flare cycle so I'm not worried about that. I'm spring cleaning today, hoping it's mega early nesting! X

I was panicking again yesterday thinking that as I started the drugs on day 1 I'm now on the short protocol which wasn't recommended for me! But I think short is only when you don't down regulate isn't it? Is that what you are on Dee? Its so hard not to stress when its all so uncertain and its our last chance! I must relax! Got the day off today so will do a few jobs but also relax in the garden!
Got my thyroid test result, its slightly high but often fluctuates apparently so I have to get it done again in 3 months to check its normal again & not increasing.

If you are down regulating then I don't think it will be short protocol, there are lots of different variations of protocols, I was so confused when I first started looking into it but I wouldn't worry, they will be planning it with the intention to give you the best possible outcome.
Hope you have a lovely day off with plenty of relaxation xx

Yep on the short protocol or a flare cycle they call it at the clinic. I don't down reg, I start stimming cd2 (tomorrow) to go with my natural cycle. I do the short protocol because of my pco and high amh as it reduces the risk of ohss apparently...it's over nice a quick too! X

No not epi pen, bottle and syringe stylee! Did it all myself and I must say I am quite proud as normally ćant stand to even watch needles. Got a bit of a better technique now so not feeling the liquid go in so much which is good.

Had a call from the clinic today to say that they will be closed the week I have to go for my scans and so will have to go to Bourn which is over an hour away as opposed to half hour which is annoying as I was hoping to just pop out of work to attend and go bk so as not to have to use any holiday days but might have to re-think it now! Oh well its all for a good cause I suppose!

That's annoying! Which Bourn will you go to? I'm a bourn patient, Wickford and Colchester, they're very nice xx

Im peterborough and cambridge (the village is also called bourn in cambridge, where "Bourn Hall" originated!) but peterborough is only up the road. I knew we would be having EC and ET at bourn but scans should have been at peterborough and I have got to have three in one week They are all really friendly though and im sure cambridge will be no different. .

That is annoying. Wickford for me is only 20 mins away and Colchester an hour where we have EC and ET so is be bummed if that happened to me! Hey ho, just another little obstacle to jump over xx

How annoying Poispinner, but if that's the only bump in the road on this cycle to pregnancy it will definitely be well worth it.
We had our nurse consult Friday and they informed us my Oh sa is worse than the first so we will have to freeze some before egg collection so they have enough for Icsi :(
I will be starting 31st Aug with 1 injection a day in the morning then from day 5 adding another injection to the morning routine. Got my needles tub at home....defo starting to feel real now!!

Wishing all you ladies the best of luck and hope there is a flood of bfps on the way.... so exciting! X

That's annoying having to do the injections in the morning CDABaby, do you work?
I still haven't got my prescription for the stims drugs and I'm supposed to start them on Friday! This really is a lesson in not stressing when things aren't ready in advance! Talking about the sharps box reminded me that we'll probably have to put mine in an icecream tub until the box of drugs arrives!

Bit of good news: ERA test came back normal, got an email at 8.30pm on Friday from our lovely, positive but very disorganized consultant saying he tried to call us! We were out for dinner celebrating my birthday! He is now on leave till egg collection! So if I don't have a displaced implantation window the issue must just be the embryo quality. Hoping for DH's sperm DNA results back this week too.
