Ladies doing IVF or IUI - 2015 (9 BFPs!)

True! Do you have to do the Clexane morning and night? :( And does it have to be in your bum?

Oh I hope I don't have to. DH leaves for work really early, he'd have to do it whilst I was still in bed! The progesterone is pessaries anyway. You must be like a pincushion! I was bad enough with 3 per night: Buserelin, Merional and Fostinon.

Hey ladies, haven't been on here in a while! We were waiting a couple of weeks for my AMH results and they finally came through.

My AMH was 43.4 and my consultant said it was the level to be expected of someone of my age... Took that as a positive! Apparently due to this level, I am on a fine line of either over or under responding so the cycle may have to be adjusted or abandoned... Took that as less positive lol. My consultant wants me to start on 225 units of Menopur and cetrotide daily - can anyone tell me if this is the norm and whether this means 2 injections a day?
I have only used gonal f to stimulate ov in my IUIs so Menopur will be completely new to me. He said this route of medication is called the excessive responder something or other.. I've forgotten!! But he also mentioned it meant the cycle would be much quicker so that's good I guess.

Finding it quite daunting but my chat and plan is on Thursday so will be able to ask any q's and knowing what's happening in more detail will be a reassurance.

Hope everyone's doing okay, sorry for non personal messages, I've missed a bit and tapatalk has a brand new layout I'm not quite able to figure out yet lol.

That's what I was on, plus Fostimon, it was one of each per evening as well as the Buserelin. It was easy to adjust the dose after each scan so hopefully won't need to be abandoned. They are decreasing my dose this time so I have Gonal F instead of Fostimon. Its in a pre filled pen so looks easier but has to stay in the fridge.

Good luck with your appointment!

Oh ok. Are the Menopur injections in pre filled pens or do I have to make those up like Gonal F?
Thank you, I'm kind of looking forward to it lol just want to get started. X

Sorry I meant Merional not Menopur. I was on Menopur the first time, you just mix the liquid with the powder and it lasts for 3 injections. The Merional is more tricky, you have to mix one liquid with one powder, then draw that all back into the syringe and mix it with the 2nd powder to get the right dose and you have to do that every time. My Gonal F comes in a pen! They must all be different! I know what you mean, once you’re ready you want to get the ball rolling. I find it does interfere with going out and things though.

I’ve got a bit of a dilemma. The nurse called yesterday to move all my appointments forward because the Dr who does the Endometrial Scratch has booked leave! I could have moved them to a week later but didn’t want to delay things. The problem is that I’ll have to do my first injection when DH is away. I have a bit of a needle phobia but overcame it to a certain extent when we had to do injections, but I’m not sure if I can actually inject myself. I’ve asked the GP if we can pay a nurse to come and do it but they don’t provide that service, nor does the the company who delivers the drugs and is sending a nurse to do my infusion, or the Fertility clinic. I’ve asked my friend to do the injection, she says she’d do it if I can’t find anyone else but isn’t keen. I’m considering trying to do it myself but don’t know if I can.

Hey Blueflower, why don't you get your friend around for support, try and do it yourself, you may be ok with some morale support. x

Great idea! I suggested that and she said she'd do the injection for me, weight off my mind!

That's the bit I hate - doing the injections myself! I have a needle phobia too and it took me ages to do my first one and I'm still not used to them - can you ever get used to it? Lol.

Hope it goes ok blue flower. X

Had my chat and plan yesterday. Phew... So much information and my head just felt ready to explode by the end of the appointment.

I can't start our first IVF til mid March due to DH being away and the clinic being closed for Easter which I was disappointed about cos of course I want to get started straight away but I can't do anything about it so will just have to make sure the time flies by.

Anyways, I will start norethisterone when DH comes back as I'll be on it for 8 days to induce AF so at least by the time he's back it can get moving. So I'll have my baseline scan and start Menopur injections, I'll be on 225 units, one injection a day for 2 days then menopur and cetrotide injections daily til I'm ready for the egg collection. I guess you guys know the rest so I don't need to explain egg collection, lol. I found it all so overwhelming, there was so much information and lots of forms to fill out again and stuff like that, we were in the appointment for over an hour.

Can I ask though, how does everyone find the egg collection? It's the part I'm most nervous about but then most excited about cos we will have an actual number of eggs collected and then fertilised - something we had no idea about during iui as you don't know if your follicles actually contain eggs so that'll be a huge weight off my mind, knowing there's eggs lol.

Just got to find stuff to keep me busy over the next month! X

missjuly so glad things are moving for you and all sounds exciting, there's so much to take in x
the one thing I was most apprehensive about was egg collection, I'd worked myself into a bit of a frenzy but it wasn't needed, I found the whole process a lot less daunting and quicker than i had imagined, they prepped me for theatre and I was wheeled down, given a heavy sedative and the next thing I knew I was in recovery, I was wheeled back to my room, then oh went and did his bit, I was a little uncomfortable at first but it eased quite quickly. I think the wait between collection and transfer was the bit we were unprepared for as it was a bit of a rollercoaster with phone calls daily etc x

I think a lot of ladies get their partner to do the injecting, its much easier and also ensures they are involved. It means my DH can't go away with work during IVF but I don't think that's a bad thing as it should be something we both want.

Yes I agree, egg collection is really scary, I was in tears with nerves before the first one but it was so much easier than I'd feared. It was the ideas of the needle piercing me and sucking the eggs out of my ovaries that terrified me, but I had no pain at all, just a bit of discomfort. Hearing they got some eggs makes it all worthwhile.

Its nerve wracking waiting to hear about how many embryos you have too! We had a call the next day and then 2 days after that to update us. Be prepared for disappointment though because most of them on day 1 won't have made it by transfer day. You just have to hope that the best one or 2 will still be developing and any for freezing will be a bonus. Unless you get a 2 or 3 day transfer and then you might have lots to freeze, although with that you won't know which are the best ones.

The best thing I agree is knowing that you can produce embryos which you don't know normally or with IUI!

Just woke up to a letter in the post....we have reached the top of the waiting list!! First appointment 24th for nurse led services -blood test, swabs etc. Then to go back one month later for prep!! So so happy and excited!! Xx

After a slow start on stims we got 5 eggs today. We're happy with that, waiting on that call tomorrow! I see you have 2 blastos, that's amazing. So exciting. x

Yay that's a good number hon, well done! Another step gained. I think they generally call quite early, so not too long to wait. Come on eggies! Yep 2 blasto's on board  x
