Ladies doing IVF or IUI - 2015 (9 BFPs!)

Its where they scan you and count how many follicles you have to start with that could potentially contain eggs, I think antral means empty. But maybe they already knew you had lots due to the PCOS so didn't need to count them.

Do you think they might extract all the eggs anyway and maybe freeze them for next month rather than cancel the cycle?

No I haven't had the antral follicle count. I only had a baseline scan and then the one yesterday to check my follicles.

I don't know, they said if they have to cancel I would have a few days of just cetrotide but I'm not really 100% sure of what would happen after but I will find out tomorrow. I didn't even think to ask if they would do the egg collection anyway but it didn't sound like they would. They may do, I guess it all depends on what happens at tomorrow's scan and what the blood results show. X

Seems a bit pointless to just cancel it altogether..... you would think they would do ec then just freeze everything and do a transfer when you're not at risk for ohss

I agree. I may ask tomorrow but it sounds like everything depends on the blood results. Fx! X

I bet you are quite uncomfortable with all those follicals MissJuly10. It would be worth asking if they cancel prior to EC would it count as one of your nhs goes? They do say the the more eggs you have can reduce the quality slightly, so they may advise to cancel prior to ec so you don't count it as an nhs attempt, then next cycle have lower dose to get less eggs which may be better quality. If they did do ec this time they would have to freeze all because I doubt they would tx while at such high risk of ohss x

They said yesterday it wouldn't count as one nhs cycle as I wouldn't have had egg collection so I would imagine they would not do EC if they cancel it - I've just realised that. Feeling more bloated this evening but I've had dinner so that may be contributing to it. Just generally feeling full and in a bit of discomfort! Tomorrow is weighing heavily on my mind, all I can think about is the blood results. X

Hi ladies sorry for the late reply, I tried to post earlier but I had a bad signal and I lost my entire post... Grr!!

Anyways. My scan showed I still have 40 odd follicles, 29 of them are over 12 mm (a couple of 20's!) so they did my bloods to check my estrogen levels. We got the results a couple of hours later, thankfully the results were not too high but they were slightly raised (everyone seemed surprised they were not through the roof lol) so they said as a clinic they would say it would be fine to go ahead with EC but they said the decision was ours as to whether we wanted to take the risk as I am still at risk of OHSS after EC. They said I would be at risk whatever cycle we did, even if it was a much lower dose and a long cycle, the risk would still be there so we decided to continue with EC. We have been booked in for Monday morning! They said due to my ovaries being swollen and me being uncomfortable etc they may decide to do a frozen transfer next month instead of a fresh transfer this week but it depends how I feel after EC. They did seem to lean towards doing a FET next month after I've had a period after EC.

Not sure how I feel about it but I think it's more because I've not had time to think about a frozen transfer as I never thought it would turn out this way and we would be in this situation but we wouldn't lose anything by doing a frozen transfer so I think we are okay with it.

I've been given anti sickness tablets to start once a day from tomorrow for 8 days which should help with the discomfort apparently. Got to do my last Cetrotide tomorrow then Ovitrelle tomorrow night.

It's been a long day, we were at clinic for 3 hours and it's been a lot of information to process quite quickly lol!

Feeling pretty overwhelmed as EC is only a few days away! We were sure they would end up cancelling the cycle and my nurses admitted they also assumed that would be the case.

But here we are.... Eek!

Aw best of luck for Monday.. getting them freezed is not all bad but who knows if they make it to blastos on day 5 you may feel ok by then to put one back in and still have some for freezing and the FET still included as part of first try on the nhs if you need it ;) xx

Yeah, she did say we could end up doing a fresh transfer but we will have to see what happens. Very nervous about EC! X

It goes so quickly and the sedation drugs are really good... didnt know about anything going on but your OH will fill you in if he goes in with you ;) xx

Hiya missJ, hope your okay.
I was very nervous about egg collection but the staff are so good they out you at ease straight away.
Just try and relax and not over think ( easier said than done) if u can download zita west album it's a relaxation cd for positive visualisation for ivf. It helped me so much, I listened to before bed really helped me switch off! Couldn't recommend it enough Xx

I agree about the zita west. Really helped me too xx

That's a relief! It would be so disappointing to cancel completely.

EC isn't as scary as you imagine and I had hardly any pain. Its exciting seeing how many eggs they got, its usually however many larger ones they saw on the last scan. Take a book along for whilst you are waiting to go in to take your mind off it, unless you particularly like old magazines! Will your OH be waiting for you? Mine really appreciated the nurse telling him I was out and it went ok, and a text from me as soon as I was capable! I could only manage a smiley face to start with after the sedation! Some people even enjoy the sedation drugs! And its nice to just veg out when you get home!

Good luck for Monday! X

I found the worst bit of ec the waiting at the hospital having had nothing to eat or drink before it. Had to be there for 0730 and wasn't called till after 0900. Starving, thirsty and stressed not a good combo.

The actual ec itself you are knocked out, and I felt totally fine afterwards and got home after I had eaten something.

Later at home I had little bit of cramping but nothing worse than regular af cramps

That's true! I have low blood sugar and took ages to feel ok afterwards and they said it was due to not eating for so long. I also drink lots of water. I intended to eat just before midnight the night before but wasn't hungry but if we do it again I will make myself eat something slow release carbohydrate so that I can last a bit longer! At least that small issue took my mind off the actual EC and any discomfort from that!

Sorry to hear what you've been going through MissJuly10 you must have been so uncomfortable. Glad to hear that it wasn't cancelled though and that EC is going ahead! I agree the with others, the Zita West CD is really good. Good luck hon x

Thanks for all you replies ladies, it's made me feel a bit more at ease about the procedure. DH isn't allowed in with me as he has to do his sample whilst I'm in EC but the nurses said he will be in my room when they take me back round after EC.

Bit gutted he can't be with me but I guess as I'm sedated it doesn't matter too much cos I won't really know. We have to be at the clinic for 7.30am and EC is at 8.30 so I'm assuming we will be home by midday.

They've said they will take me back to my room after to sleep it off - I am not expecting to be knocked out for ages given that the procedure isn't lengthy - how long did you all sleep for after EC?

X

I didn't sleep at all. They bring you round in recovery so you're awake when you're taken back to the ward and having tea and toast a few minutes later. You need to eat, drink and go to the loo before you go home. There's not much to it really! Good luck xx

Ye I was same as browned eyed girl, but I was so so drowsy When I came round.
Our fertility clinic is a 40 min drive from our house, I struggled staying awake, and was in pain with stomach so I had seat as far back as I could. When I got home I slept most of the day, n just took it easy.
You'll be fine, it's just daunting cause you don't know what to expect xx
