***** January 2015 Mummy's *****

On a diffrent subject complealtly, I was wondering what the thoughts are on perineal massage? And has anybody had any experiences regarding? It's just I am 34 weeks tomorrow, and have herd about it a various stages but never really thought much about it! X

The packets of stuff for my maternity bag are sitting together waiting to be packed into a bag.

Ladies buying nappies, there is a useful thread in 'Ask a Mum' about nappy brands & the last post has some useful suggestions for getting things on the cheap: http://www.pregnancyforum.co.uk/ask-a-mum/461684-brand-nappies-do-you-recommend-2.html

I also asked people there about maternity pads - seems the cheapo supermarkets own brand are more than adequate: http://www.pregnancyforum.co.uk/ask-a-mum/457169-maternity-pads.html (I got 10 for £1 from Asda)

If you are looking at buying:
nipple cream - consider Lanisoh - John Lewis currently has a very good price (£6.66 for 40ml) : http://www.johnlewis.com/lansinoh-hpa-lanolin-cream-40ml/p231577379

Looks like Lanisoh nipple pads have just gone up in price - a few places had them at £3.30 the other week.

~~

Kiwi - I plan to be trying to do a self-perineal massage (no doubt the idea would terrify OH!) from about 35 weeks, don't see what there is to lose from trying it :)

xx

Gah after one nights decent kip I'm back to rubbish sleep.

Had a missed call from a private number about 6.30pm yesterday - no voice mail - and I'm scared it was MW calling to tell me I have GD.

Got most of my newborn bits now just need nappies and water wipes. Going to try cotton wool this time to begin with though.

We took two bags with us last time, one for me and one for baby. Was so much easier.

Didn't do the massage last time and still managed a natural delivery with no tears or grazes so hoping I'm still nice and stretchy when the time comes lol

X

I have given p massage a thought and decided that it is not for me lol!! its sounds time consuming and though i see its benefits... a bit strange.

On another point my friend who is due two weeks before me has her baby today (5lb8oz) was due the the 2nd of January. They had to deliver earlier as the baby was causing her kidneys to stop working. So they pumped baby full of steroids for a week and everything appeared to be fine. though very stressful as you can imagine. Baby was born at 34 weeks.

still its gets you thinking.... could happen to any of us.

Little nervous today.. Going to meet the surgeons for baby's possible oesphagus problem no idea what to expect. At the moment they're treating it as if he does have the condition as the indicators suggest he does but it can't be diagnosed till birth. Just feel like this poor baby has enough to deal with already and this surgery before his heart surgery will really set him back.. Anyways just keep him in your thoughts girls xxx

Good luck Jan! Thinking of you! Lots of love and best wishes to you and your little man! Xxx

Sending lots of love and positive thoughts to your little boy Jan

Thanks so much girls. They've still given him 50/50 odds of having the oesphagus problem and despite the drainage my waters are still in excess so we'll just have to wait and see. They're now inducing me at 38 weeks so we've been given a date as 7th jan..eekk!!!

Hope you're all doing ok xx

Big hugs Jan. Eeek for your date too :) xx

Anyone else feel like they've hit the wall a bit in this pregnancy? I feel so incredibly blessed to be pregnant, especially as so many people struggle to conceive, but I am so ready for baby now. Feel like these last few weeks are going to drag. Sure I will feel ok again in a few days, think I'm just feeling a bit sorry for myself at the mo with constant fanny-daggers and heartburn making me miserable.

Thanks hun and I so know what you mean it's the constant daggers and all the other crappy third trimester delights we have to deal with making us feel this way!!

Big hugs Jan, sending lots of positive vibes to you and your little one x

Congratulations Carnat on getting into the new house, hope things start to settle a bit soon x

You all sound a lot more organised than me, I'm going to put some real effort into sorting the hospital bag this weekend - last weekend was a major dash round nearly new sales trying to find early baby clothes as I suspect given the early birth she'll be quite dinky, will need to stock up on smaller nappies too. Still, all the bigger stuff I collected up will be used eventually

One thing I learnt from my hospital trip is that if they decide to induce and the labour ward gets full up with people in natural labour/emergencies is that you can end up on the obstetric ward for a couple of days, so I'll be seriously stocking up on the entertainment as there really wasn't any there. Thinking about taking my laptop with some DVDs and maybe some cards/games for me and dh

Boots sent me a voucher for some free nipple pads, so I signed hubby up in the hope they'll send him one as well

I may give p massage a try, though I think I'd rather get hubby to do it as I'm not sure how well I can bend that way and still be comfortable lol

Sorry the news wasn't better Jan but at least it wasn't worse.

They are still good odds? We will all have our fingers and toes crossed for your little man, he'll be just dandy whatever he faces - he has come so far already!!

Feeling like utter rubbish today, I think the past few weeks are catching up with me and I feel like a zombie.

OH was just asking me last night where a few boxes need to go and I was so tired I couldn't even think?

Back to work today as well.

I am struggling physically now as well, nothing specific [and I know I am lucky] but I am feeling lethargic, heavy and just generally a bit crappy.

Am trying to enjoy things as this will be my last pregnancy but the reality is this time round has been so much harder. With James I really was the epitome of a calm, serene pregnant woman and this time it's been so different.

I've also just counted and I have 31 working days left :wall2: OMFG! How depressing.

I'll be too tired to deliver this baby by the time it comes around!

X

Not packed hospital bag yet! I have bought a few bits but need to have a look at what is needed being a first time Mummy! I think I will definately do two bags - one for me and one for baby's things.
We had walls of nursery re-plastered yesterday so looking forward to getting on and painting etc over next couple of weeks (although OH won't let me do a lot!)

Thanks girls. Carnat bless you I can imagine you are wrecked moving house looking after a little one and working too! You need to take time out for yourself you must be run ragged!
Yayitsronnie..oh no! Bless you that does sound v stressful! I can't even think the stress this puts you under! I do hope you find somewhere and soon!

Hi ladies,

I've come back in here because it's took me a few weeks to get my head round the previa issue. Well, I don't need to be worried anymore as I no longer have it, whooo!! :):)

So, going to start drinking raspberry leaf tea tomorrow, I'll start off 1 cup a day and gradually increase.

How is everyone xx

Jan- sorry to hear things aren't plain sailing :-( you're doing so well to take it in your stride the way you are.

Ronnie- maybe baby will be slightly late so your crossover will be minimal? It sounds awfully stressful though and I really feel for you- try to remember that everything will sort itself out, even though right now it doesn't seem that way :-(

Steph that's absolutely fantastic news :-) so glad that naughty placenta has moved!!!

I read in my notes from my consultant appt from Tuesday that baby is 3/5 palpable, so 2/5 engaged- Freddie only got to this point at 41 weeks!!! What do people think this means?

Also, I've been having period type pain recently, could this be the reason why? I'm seriously hoping this baby comes earlier than 39+2 so I can avoid c section (although I'm not prepared to go overdue so will have the section happily on this date). I might be reading into things way more than I should though because of this!!!

I would LOVE a natural birth!!!!

Jolly that's scary about head being 2/5 engaged. I took not well at work yesterday luckily work where I will be having baby so my boss sent me along to triage. CTG trace was perfect so they kept telling me. My white cells are slightly raised and have a bit of blood in my urine. They sent me home and said to take today off. They said I'm just prob run down and have a bit of virus. Midwife had a feel of belly and baby is still head down but head is still free and not down in pelvis yet.
Got confirmation of my maternity leave today. Starts on 11th January and not due back till 11th October it seems so far away yet I know it will fly in. On plus side I have 17 shifts left to work cause with holidays I'm finishing up on 15th December.

Carnat - I'm definitely feeling tired & lethargic now, too. Although you've just gone through a house move with a toddler, so I can understand you being particularly exhausted! Would you consider bringing your maternity leave forward a little?
Katy - nursery progress sounds exciting :)
Jan - best thoughts for your little baby xx
ronnie - sorry to hear you're stressed, have you any thoughts where you might have the baby if your mum's is not suitable?
steph - glad to hear placenta is behaving! let us know what you think of the raspberry leaf tea!! :)
jolly - being engaged already sounds pretty promising?! here's hoping that your baby is on the move & you get the natural birth you want. I think I've read that baby moving into position in the pelvis can cause period-like pains.
Mrs W - hope you feel better soon! It's good that baby is head down already. :)

Sorry for being slightly grumpy - got referred by midwife to physiotherapist at 31 weeks, have been given an appointment for 22 December at 37 weeks pregnant. (As an aside, not really looking forward to using public transport in central London 3 days before Christmas when at full term!) Knew midwife was being optimistic when she said it'd be soon!

Jolly that sounds v early to be engaged to that extent! And together with period pains..hmmm!! Keep an eye on that sweetie and get checked out for preterm labour if it gets worse!

Tinselcat that's sooo poor why on earth such a long wait?! I'd be complaining for sure! Hope you get a quicker appointment!!!

Hopefully by that time TC lots of people would have gone on leave so the transport issue won't be too much of a problem.

All my appointments are central London, although I work 2 stops on the Tube from my hospital.

Jolly, all sounds very promising. Although I am pretty sure James was fully engaged and very low down from 38w and was 9 days late  :wall2:

Oh dear MrsW, make sure you rest up over the weekend. Lots of fluids and chillaxing for you.

Still feeling incredibly tired and ironically I am not sleeping? Lay awake from 9pm - Midnight last night???

I have considered bringing my maternity leave forward but if I bring it forward by a week that's actually only 3 working days so I am thinking to just suck it up.

I am going to be tired regardless??

Just need a few nights half decent kip!

My new house is walking distance [in-fact walking is the easiest way to and from the office] and baby is feeling low and bouncing off my cervix - ouchy! I am currently sat in my chair feeling super sorry for myself.

Need to snap out of this mood to be honest. I am not usually so grumpy and 'woe is me'

X
