February 2016 Mamas!!

Just been doing some research online (which is obvs a bad idea) but being b12 deficient can cause problems for the baby x

Oh no! I don't know anything about that but keep us posted- I'm sure everything will be fine so try not to worry! Xx

I've never heard of that... Good luck tomo. Fingers crossed you're just a bit anemic. X

Thank you, I feel fine so hopefully it's nothing, probably just doctors being overdramatic as usual! Unless you eat nutritional yeast and a lot of Marmite, b12 is only really found in animal products so be careful if you're veggie or vegan. I don't eat meat, drink cows milk and I rarely eat eggs but occasionally eat fish, so this could be related.

Yeah b12 is one of those hard ones for us veggies to get. I eat loads of marmite and also tofu is a great source. Let us know how you get on xx

I've just had a really horrible evening. Could only book an appointment at like 4.40 this afternoon which happened to be a really awkward time, went to see the doctor who was like "what can I do for you?" Even though I've clearly stated I'm booking an appointment as requested in regards to blood test (I received a text saying I need to discuss results with doc). He didn't even know what the blood test was for, and thought I was 27 weeks pregnant (im 29+3) -the last doctor knew straight away both of these things when I went in. Anyway, he said my ferratin and b12 were both really low and I've got to have 3 X b12 injections a week until my first period after giving birth, and every three months after that (in my bottom!) - so so unhappy. So I went to the reception to book my appointments and apparently it said on my prescription I need 3 injections per week for the next 2 weeks so that's what they booked me in for. Doctor said one thing, and wrote another on his notes so I don't really know what it's meant to be. The nurse at the desk also decided to jump in and tell me how painful they are.
Then had to walk 20 mins to get home in the pouring rain with make up in my eyes and no hood or umbrella. Someone even decided to comment on how wet I am, as if I hadn't noticed. Then a post van almost ran me over. The second I got in to my home, I just started sobbing :( thanks to my amazing boyfriend I've had a nice hot bath and I'm in my onesie and I've calmed down a bit. Still totes emosh tho.

Aww Molly poor you - if it's any reassurance I know someone who has to have regular b12 injections and although I've never spoke to her about it in detail she's never said they were particularly painful

How horrible. Doctors and medics are so flipping busy and stretched that they make silly mistakes like your wrong script and don't/can't give people the time. I find this with my midwife and end up coming out worse than I went in.

Perhaps try put foods rich in b12 and then request a further blood test to see if you need the injections? I'm very much in favour of trying everything poss before taking what docs say 100%. There's always alternitives to medication. If you aren't keen on dairy try soy milk or coconut milk? Almonds and Brazil nuts contain b12 and I'm sure quorn products do. Xx

Thank you all :)

I genuinely have a really healthy balyanced diet, and I eat so many seeds and high in iron veg like spring greens, kale, spinach etc. And eat Linda McCartney or Quorn sausages a lot and basically live off soy milk. My Mum told me today that pernicious anaemia runs in her family, and it sounds like that's exactly my problem-when your body can't absorb it properly. I told the doctor this and he just told me it's not important right now (funny though because I'm pretty sure it is). I think I will go ahead with the injections as b12 deficiency can cause spina bifida in baby and I just don't want to risk it.

Agree with you about doctors being super busy - it's not their fault I suppose. It annoys me when people visit the doctor for the smallest thing, IR affects everybody else. My surgery has such a weird system as well where you can either book like 2 weeks in advance or otherwise in the actual day you visit. So you can't just call up and book an appointment for the following day, you have to wait for the next day and THEN phone.

My dad has those injections every 3 month, he has never ever said it's painful and I take him to the docs! I'm sure you ll be fine!
Glad your dry warm and cosy now x

Thanks, I literally have no idea why the nurse decided to say that. So weird. Thanks for the reassurance! :)

So this is my last week of work half day of Friday then go back nxt October really excited I'm in agony with my SPD and really really tired again!
Works throwing a baby shower for me this afternoon oh god I'm dreading it I'm grateful but just hate being the centre of attention ha! It's nice of them tho!

Enjoy your last few days at work and your baby shower. I was meant to have mine last Saturday, it was meant to be a surprise but I guessed it. I was dreading it too, for a number of reasons it didn't go ahead and I was gutted! Not sure when it's happening now. I had to try and hide the fact of how disappointed I was coz I wasn't meant to know!!

Enjoy your last week, Suzanne! I hate being the centre of attention as well, dreading my baby shower-I've told my friends and family not to throw me one but they will anyway. Very sweet though I guess, and probably quite helpful.
Must be a great feeling knowing you're not going back till October!

Hey all, Awww it was nt as bad as I thought as secret Santa was going in at the same time! Git the most beautiful flowers a lovely teddy and they did nt know what to get me so I got cash! I wondered why everyone kept asking if I was sorted for baby r if I had everything lol!
1 and a half days left can't quite believe it! It's a great feeling but I'll miss the little ones at wrk! At least now I can enjoy Xmas and my time before baby comes xx

Makes everything real and makes you realise how much people care. Lovely times :) x

Had my first b12 jab today... In my arm, NOT my bum! And it hurt less than a blood test! Stupid doctors and nurses trying to make things sound so much worse!
