I really fancy lamb shanks slow cooked in red wine, but not sure whether I should. I would usually use half a bottle and slow cook for 3 hours or more so would the alcohol be cooked out?

Thanks ladies x

reckon it's fine - always been told that the alcohol is cooked out quite quickly. I've been very strict with no drinking but have used red wine for pasta sauces and also some vermouth for a cream sauce

Yeah that will be fine it will burn off like you said x
My hubbys a chef my kids occasionally have food cooked in wine because it burns off

Fab that's good to know :) I can go ahead and enjoy them now x

After all that he got it wrong and bought a rack instead of shanks ha ha. Can you still slow cook rack in red wine? X

You can slow cook whatever meat in whatever sauce

You just done get much meat on a rack of ribs and its harder to eat (abit messy)
:)

It's fine hun, I actually give James food now that is cooked with wine (spag bol, risotto)

xxxxxx

I've had quite a few dinners where I've used wine. Don't really see the harm, to be honest. It's all about moderation.

As the others have said it will all cook out, I was really looking forward to a proper gravy with red wine on my bangers and mash the other night, that was when I found out that my taste buds are well and truly up the creek as there was only a drop of wine in it (OH couldn't even taste it) yet it tasted like I had just gone and poured a neat bottle of wine over my dinner! It was not at all what I had been looking forward to!

Well despite being a rack instead of shanks it was still yummy. Thanks ladies x
