Home cooking challenge!

I'm gonna steal Budge's idea and make a Goulash next week. I remember having it years ago with crusty bread and it was gorgeous. Looking for a recipe now :D

EDIT: as I was searching for a Goulash recipe I found one for sausage goulash which sounds gorgeous so I am gonna go for that :D Will do a pic when I do it. Will probably be tuesday, ooo I'm excited!

Sausage goulash?!?

How bizarre...sounds....nice!

What's everyone making this week then?

I'm going with spagetti and meatballs. :)

I made Lasagne for tea, it wasnt as good as normal, as it was adapted for Charlie.....Yup she loved it!

Don't know this week, need some inspiration :(

Urchin do you have your special meatball recipe?

Well Im doing roast beef tonight, and I have got a mincer so I am going to use the left overs to make mince to do shepards pie the following night. And Im going to get some chicken breasts wrap them in streaky bacon and make a cheese sauce. Not anything sepecial I know but normally I would buy that sort of thing ready prepared and just stick it in the oven.

I forgot to say that I found a new butcher :cheer: It's great, he's just got loads of hunks of local meat, proper chops and some lovely lamb steaks. Not this dressed up rubbish you get in some butchers (Lloyds Maunders butchers is just so ponced up, give me a nice juicy hunk of beef any day :D)

One of my favourite dishes is Spanish Chicken....Here is the recipe if any one wants to try it.....
Ingredients
3 tbsp olive oil
2 onions, sliced
3 chicken portions on the bone
1 tbsp plain flour,
290ml/½ pint chicken stock
a big glass of red wine
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Tomato Puree according to taste
300g/10oz button mushrooms, sliced
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
Olives
boiled rice, to serve

Method
1. Heat 2 tbsp of the olive oil in a large heavy pan, then add the onions and mushrooms and fry for about 10 minutes until lightly browned and soft.
2. Toss the chicken in the seasoned flour. Heat the remaining 1 tbsp of oil in the pan, then add the chicken and fry until evenly browned. Remove chicken and place in an oven proof dish, Add the chicken stock, onions, mushrooms and their juices, wine, olives, tomato puree and Worcestershire sauce to the pan and simmer .
3. pour over the chicken portions and place in oven for about 45 mins. Taste and season with salt and black pepper if necessary. Just before serving, sprinkle over the chopped parsley and serve with boiled rice.

Its also yummy with mash or a jacket. Hope it makes sense!

I tried it this weekend - I had 14 for lunch on Sunday  . It was the star of the day - everyone LOVED it, so thank you Hels for sharing it x

Pea x

Im really pleased it went down well.....My SS loves it, although he picks out the olives lol!
Your brave to cook for that amount of people!!!! Well done!

Cat inspired me to do chicken wrapped with bacon tonight, mmmm. Didn't have it with a cheese sauce though.

Going to make a cabonara from scratch this week (think it will be v easy lol) though the pasta wont be homemade!!

This is my new butchers, more expensive than my last one but the meat is really tasty and all local. I think I might start doing their monthly meat delivery, but not sure if some of the cuts might be too much for us.

I made huge amounts of cheese sauce the other day, and froze lots for Charlie, and then did some in tupaware for us too. So its just there if we need it! mMMMMmmmm cheese sauce.

Don't lets forget this girls, I just saw Jamie Oliver on Paul O'Grady and he's organising a home cooking day Where everyone has the same ingredients and you all cook along together.

I was right up for it but 7pm is a bit late for me to cook cos Mason's bedtime is 8.
80,000 people have signed up for it so far though, it's a great idea!

I just made mango chicken for tea, Charlie really enjoyed it. So did i actually, and it was only 6 points
That sounds great Urchin, but again, its way too late for us, Charlies bed time is 7.30 :(

This week I'm going to bake my own bread!

We had a breadmaker for Christmas which is still in it's (now very dusty) box, so am going to crack it open and give it a whirl!

Any bakers in the house who can share any tips? :)

OOOhhhh I love home baked bread minxy!
I use the mixes from asda!!! So not technically home baked lol! I like my house smelling of fresh bread. No tips really, but i always use warm water, never cold. Good luck, let us know how you go!

i remember when i used to go to a friends house his mom used to do us some fresh cooked bread it was soooo nice

I normally found hame made bread quite doughy, I like to make focacia bread. Just stick loads of finger holes in in and drizzle with olive oil and stick red onions or sundried tomatoes ontop or stuff.

Im not doing any new cooking at the mo, eating rubbish bung in the oven pies and stuff, cause preparing food is making me feel sick. :puke:

Oh I had totally forgotten about this thread!

I've been trying to make something different each week, I was getting so bored of the same old things we ate!

Two weeks ago I make Chicken Teryaki (out of the Wagamas cook book) and that was gorgeous. Last week I made Jamie Oliver's Monkfish wrapped in parma ham with a sundried tomato and basil marinade (we're not big fish fans but this was lovely) and this week (tomorrow) I'm making Anthony Worral Thompson's Irish Lamb Stew!

I'll watch the Jamie Oliver's webcast but can't be bothered to start cooking at 7pm either!
