Can anyone give me some hope!? 3 early losses back to back

So frustrating peanut butter. Epu did my referral straight away after the 3rd miscarriage.....I didn't even see my gp. Sorry to hear it's been such a long slog. I really really hope this cramping doesn't come to anything....xxxx

Emma, with my last pregnancy I was preg with twins and after one twin dying it bought my progesterone down by half. I was having progesterone and hcg testing done privately as gp wouldn't allow me to have on nhs, when they discovers my falling progesterone they did a scan and saw 2 sacs one with a heartbeat the other sac was collapsing. So she suggested i buy progesterone pessaries which she gave me a prescription for costed around 90 with the cost of buying a prescription off of the private clinic to.. (it was too late an I miscarried at 8 weeks) but I still had some left over and started taking as soon as I got my bfp. Aspirin wise you can buy over the counter at boots, take one a day dissolved in water.

No I'm not testing I got my 3+ on digi on new year so I stopped after that. I've woken up with literally 0 symptoms :( cramping has stopped though.
When will you be referd to RM clinic? X

Emma, I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. It must be incredibly upsetting and heartbreaking for you to keep going through this.

That's great you have a helpful GP who is referring you for testing, getting that additional support and input in pregnancy will make all the difference I think.

I can't say I've been through as much other ladies posting but I wanted to add another perspective. I think you should be hugely reassured by the fact you've carried a pregnancy to term. This will happen for you hun.

You obviously conceive very easily.
I had an early loss before my current pregnancy. Although it was very early I was so invested in it and felt absolutely devastated. I did some reading and saw research about how women who get pregnant easily are more likely to have early losses. You're body will accept any fertilised egg and not reject one that's not going to survive. So it's just a bit of a waiting game to catch a good egg. I know that's not very helpful, but I'm sure you will get your rainbow.
We know egg quality and sperm quality decline with age and so that's maybe why it can be more difficult TTC number2. It certainly has been for me. I'd put OH on supplements if he's not already to help with sperm quality.

Wishing you all the very best. Sorry to hear what you are going through but please believe you will get there.

Hi ladies,

Just to update this thread.. I did start bleeding this morning so this is, as I suspected, my third loss in a row :(

Peanut butter- I should get my referral now (will call GP in the morning) but I'm guessing there will be a waiting list. Keeping everything crossed for you lovely. The waiting game is just horrible. I do wish there wasn't such disparity between the investigations and treatments offered in different places and between the NHS/private healthcare. It makes an already incredibly confusing and difficult time so much worse- and to know that some women swear by certain treatments, that you're not being offered, as the reason for their success is just too much to bear sometimes.

Elspeth- thank you for your kind words and positivity. I'm sorry you've experienced a similar loss and know exactly what you mean about the emotional investment- it's crushing.. even when it does happen early. It's interesting what you say about women who conceive easily and it does make a lot of sense. I've always been surprised that I seem to conceive most cycles.. I hadn't even thought about supplements for DH as I was assuming that as we were conceiving so easily his numbers/motility must be okay.. hadn't thought about quality! I guess it's easy to assume, as the woman, that the problem must be with you.. How far along are you with your current pregnancy and how old is your LO?

Thanks for all your support ladies xxx

Aw Emma, so sorry to hear you've started bleeding Hun. Because I went to Epu to have the miscarriages confirmed they referred me then and there, there was no waiting list, just had to wait 8 weeks to enable all hormones to be out of my system. I had lots of blood taken, and my husband also had some blood taken to be tested. Mostly they check for blood clotting disorders, all came back clear . They also scanned me to check all was ok in my uterus.
Interestingly I also conceive very quickly, within a couple of cycles.....

As you can see though, it can still be totally possible to conceive and the pregnancy continue again.

Hugs, fingers crossed it'll happen for you very soon x

ByTheSea- Thank you lovely, it's okay, as crap as it is I just knew it was going to happen so was prepared for it.. It's frustrating because I never quite make it to the 6W mark so mine have all been GP managed- they won't send you to EPU until then as nothing would be visible on an U/S? Or at least that's my understanding of it? Will be phoning GP tomorrow and asking for a referral (fingers crossed I won't get the same GP who referred to my last as 'just a late period') I've got all my facts straight in terms of the RCOG and NICE guidelines so ready to push for it if I have to..

Will let you know how I get on and will keep in touch. Thanks again xxx

Aw ok, I was over the 6 week mark with all of mine (except the last which I went to a&e with pains, had no idea I was pregnant but cant have been further than 5 weeks)

Absolutely push for what you are entitled too Hun, and at Torbay, after 3 losses it's self referral to Epu, they haven't said you need to be over 6 weeks to be seen on any info I've seen anywhere. Xx

Oh really I didn't know that? Do you know how I would go about self referring as I can't find any contact information online? Any info you might have would be gratefully received.. thank you lovely xxx

Annoyingly i can't find the original site that that had all the info regarding referrals on, but this is the number for antenatal reception, which you've prob already got, but ask for early pregnancy and they should transfer you-01803 654612
If you say you've got pain they will see you. Especially given the miscarriage history. After the 3rd I was told the next time I was pregnant, to ring up directly and book in for an early scan at 6 weeks. Obvs, I had another miscarriage before I got that far, but for this one, I rang to book in to be seen at 6 weeks, they then saw me every 2 weeks x

Thank you hun, I've left a message asking whether I can bypass a GP referral and asked them to get back to me - will let you know how it goes..

Hope you've had a lovely weekend xxx

Yes they shut over the weekend so hopefully someone will call you tomorrow xx

My epu has never done this.. wtf. They're basically like, awh I'm sorry sweet you've lost it. Ok bye! The only thing they've done for me is take the fetus I passed at home (I took it in) and sent it for testing. Man I seem to get fobbed off so much! x

Emma, so sorry the bleeding started :( ikno it was expected but there's always a tiny bit if hope! Sending hugs x

Peanut Butter - Thank you hun, yes there's always that 'maybe I'm just being paranoid' hope..

ByTHeSea - Thank you so much for the contact. I phoned this morning and they've booked me in for a scan in a weeks time (when I would be 6+ weeks.. I'm guessing just to make sure that everything's cleared?) They said that I'll have a consultation and discuss where to go from there.. This has saved me an awful lot of toing and froing with my GP so I'm really grateful.. thanks again.

Will update when I know more, :hugs: to you all and thank you for your support xxx

So sorry to read your story Emma. I'm glad bythesea could give you that advice! I hope this will be the start to you getting your take home baby. Keep us updated xx

Emma I'm so pleased they have you under their wing now. You'll have all dealings with them instead of the gps who I don't think ever really take the whole thing seriously.

Peanut, try to find out what the guidelines are for your Epu unit. Most I've seen are self referrals after 2or 3 losses, and they should be referring you to a consultant. I was under the fertility consultant from the third miscarriage and even though I never met her, at least they were discussing my case in their meetings. I've had all my dealings with the hospital, I've never seen my gp for any of the miscarriages. (Although let's hope you won't need anymore miscarriage dealings with them) xx

I agree it seems outrageous that there's regional variation between the pathway of care within the NHS.. I really hope you get to speak with your EPU directly Peanut as ByTheSea is right; GPs aren't always the best at taking early losses seriously (I'm guessing this is just a lack of specialist knowledge.. I've had the 'just a late period' and 'you've already had a baby so you're a fertile woman' comments to name a few from my GP) Sometimes it's a case of arming yourself with the guidelines and your rights- NICE, RCOG and the miscarriage association have all published guidelines on when a referral should be made and what investigations and follow ups should be carried out. Sending lots of love and best wishes and keep us posted xxx

I. So sorry you have to go through this agIn but i'd like to add my success story if you don't mind?
I had my son 8 yrs ago and had quite a while of no bfp at all then I had 2mcs at 7 wks 1 at 5 wks then another at 7wks. They couldn't find anything on the rcmc tests. But only 80% of people with Hughes do show a positive in the standard tests I think there is only one hospital in London that tests the 20% of people who show a negative first time round but you have to travel to them for it and pay for the privilege. And then if confirmed you have to do it again 3 months later to have a solid diagnosis. Anyway I was put on daily 5mg folic acid for at least 1month before trying and daily aspirin too. And now I'm 23weeks pregnant x

I'm hoping you have all the success in the world. And having folic acid leading upto and after conception can greatly reduce early mcs I got told. Often people take them from getting the bfp but sadly too often it's too late by then.

Hello ladies,

I just wanted to update this thread now I have had my consultation with the EPU- The scan showed no evidence of pregnancy so 3rd MC now confirmed but the good news is that there was no abnormalities- polyps, cysts etc. seen and that everything appeared anatomically 'normal'.

Having serial hcg levels taken to confirm my hormones are returning back to normal and then some further blood tests in 8 weeks time to rule out clotting/immune disorders. Apparently they no longer do chromosome analysis.

We spoke about moving forward and I was advised that there really isn't anything I can do to reduce my chances of miscarrying again and that this was all probably just a run of rotten luck. They no longer prescribe progesterone and really it's just a case of keep trying.. All in all this is good news but leaves me feeling like I need to take another massive leap of faith, and one that makes me feel pretty terrified to say the least.

Thank you for all your support- Sending lots of love and luck to all you lovely ladies, your babies, bumps and future rainbows. I will keep you updated on my journey and please do the same xxx
