August 2017 babies!

Ah I might watch it in a bit, I've seen it before but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to scare myself now it's only 18 weeks away?? Ha!

Aww MissCharli,
I hope you are like me, it didn't scare me! I was addicted to it lol

Actually watching OBEM along with reading a book, prepared me so so well!

Girls,
you might know it/have read it,
I owe everything to this book! My calm and positive attitude towards birth, and mainly during it. This book made me look forward to it and I am now looking forward to it again! I actually have such good memories from my labour! Forgot about the pain!
Remember MissCharli,
me, Rose, Elspeth, Jill and sooooo sooooo many other mummies wouldn't be doing it again otherwise!!! ;)

Cannot recommend this book highly enough (and the audio CD if you're into relaxation techniques and calming music) - nothing to do with hypnobirthing as such, any reference to hypnotherapy is only about positive thinking and associations in your mind to help you be positive, focussed and to look forward to meeting your miracle baby, so much that you welcome any pain as it only brings you closer to IT :cloud9:

Idk where my baby is hiding though... I am 4 days ahead of Rach and a similar size but my bump is nowhere near as obvious! Clothing makes it more obvious but when I'm nakey it just looks like podge still I think :P

Can make a big difference if you're apple or pear shaped. I know apple people at 15 weeks which are huge and others which are pear that just feel they are chubby, when there is a bump but it's less exposed. Apparently pear are better at child birth due to hip structure!?

Thank you H4R, great to have a recommendation.

I didn't do any preparation last time really.
This time I'd like to try and invest a bit more in a positive birth experience.
Oooh, will look forward to watching OBEM on catch up.

I worked with a girl who only discovered she was pregnant around 24 weeks.
She was very slim and fit, and was taking the pill and literally had no idea until her bump popped out one day and she couldn't not notice it.
I do not understand how people can get to full term and not know. Totally bonkers!!!

Ah but I am a definite apple (well I would be hourglass if I wasn't chunky )! Weird!

Ahh I know it can't be that bad if people do it lots of times, esp that family with 20 kids!!

But it is definitely a great unknown for me, idk how I'll cope or any of that. It makes me feel better that my mum was a midwife, but she is going on holiday to Scotland on 20th August, so that only gives me 10 days to go over or she won't be there!! I'm pretty certain she won't be :(

I'll see if I can find that book on the cheap, thanks :)

I love One Born Every Minute, I've watched all of them even before I was pregnant! It was really weird, the couple last night got married at the same hotel in Mauritius when we were there on honeymoon, I knew I recognised them! Thank you for the book recommendation, I'll have a little look now :)

Hi sorry I've been quiet the past few days its been really stressful here. My dad was admitted to hospital yesterday and work is horrendous. And then I got a letter from the Health Visitor so now I'm stressing out about her coming on the 2nd May. I keep thinking I have so much to do to the house before baby arrrives and she is just going to judge. I'm just all over the place.

Sorry to hear that rach, hope your dad is better soon.

I haven't been told anything about health visitor? What is it for? I hate people coming to my house haha.

~ Wow Mummytobe, really?!? :)
this couple did make me cry, that guy was such a sweetheart and I was so pleased for them finally getting their rainbow baby after their previous loss.

~ Aww Rach,
you have nothing to worry about re. the HV sweetheart! I remember when I got stressed like you about the house, so many things were not sorted or ready for baby until well into my last month of pregnancy and the HV couldn't care less. She stressed that she would never check if there was any dust or if this was the perfect looking home but that her sole role was to ensure that baby and mummy are happy and safe. Nothing more. And she kept reassuring me that newborns don't actually need much at all at the start and that I shouldn't worry in case I didn't have everything in advance. She spend all of that first appointment explaining her supportive role and purpose of future appointments, asking lots of questions about mine and hubby's health, background etc. whilst completing lots of forms and happily wanted to answer any possible questions or mine. It will all be fine, you'll see xx

Sorry to hear about your dad, I hope it's not something serious and that he is ok /on the mend. And that work eases off, sending hugs xx

This is something I've never come across - the HV visiting before the baby is born, maybe it only happens in England? Mine has always only appeared about two weeks after birth, in the two weeks after birth it's the midwives that come out. Saying that I have the HV coming twice the week after next to review my other two (their 27 and 13 month checks respectively) but they've never judged the state of my house and as we bought a 'do up' house it's always an absolute bombsite!

My little boy is driving me mad at the moment, last night he had me awake until 2am before he finally went to sleep so I got a whole 5 hours sleep last night! Night before he woke up at 2 and didn't go back to sleep until 4 so I was exhausted and got about 6 hours I think. I'm painfully tired and ended up in tears at 2am making him a bottle :( x

I'm in Scotland and my HV came before birth, she honestly just chatted with me and hubby and asked how we were. Our baby room wasn't painted, all the furniture was in boxes and i didn't have the crib next to the bed yet so it looked like we weren't ready but she didn't care. At that point we still had 8 weeks to go, little did we all know, I was in hospital the next week and giving birth the following.

My wee one is going through a leap just now and my god is she nippy. She wants to be out the buggy but won't walk so its a war. She thinks I'm going to let her crawl along the street!! I am counting down until next Friday when my dad takes her away for the day. Bliss!!!

I feel your pain Jill! My son is just coming up to 13 months and furniture surfs all day but won't take his first unaided steps but if we are out he is totally fed up because he wants to be out the pram. He is driving me mad at night - has never slept through the night and has recently started waking up hungry again in the middle of the night. I'm totally despairing - I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel :( we're thinking about trying controlled crying to try and get him to self soothe better but I hate cc. My daughter's room is being decorated (just been replastered) so once I've done all the sanding and painting in there she can go in her own room rather than the nursery and he can go in there and I'm hoping that might help too x

Athena is 16 months and will have only walk in the house or in the book shop ( clearly her mothers daughter with a book obsession) she seems too impatient to actually walk. I have loads of surfaces she can cruise along in the livingoom and between her toys so I might rearrange tonight so she has to get walking. I feel you on the decorating. Athena's new room still has some of my dad's stuff in it ( we rent my family home off him) so need him to get it before I work on her room i am still humming and hawing how I want to decorate it. I think i will leave it until she is walking properly before she moves. The lack of sleep must be killing you and its worse when you can't have an iv drip of coffee to keep you going!!

I am sending you hugs and strength tired Mummies!!!
My boy is 2yrs 7m and doesn't sleep through, most nights I can't cope with the backs and forths from our room to his, so I end up collapsing in his room on a futon around 3-4am!

He will happily sleep through whilst I sleep in his room the little monkey! I think he developed insecurity/anxiety after I lost my mummy last summer, he has seen me crying so much, was looked after by so many different relatives/friends while all this was happening to me and perhaps got affected :( :(

Sending love to all of you and your bumps xx

Hi ladies. I remember a HV coming when my mom had my baby sister. slightly worried about it as my dogs bark at everything!!

Had my 16 week appointment today finally, she asked if I had my 20 week scan booked, I said no and i hadn't received anything... she called them and they booked me in for 12th. She said it's my fault because I didn't go back to the reception after my last scan, I'm sorry but how the fuck am I supposed to know that, it's a new hosp I've never been to before and this is my first baby. I'm getting annoyed with this stuff they think I should automatically know... they need to understand I've never done this before :/ x

Ffs that is terrible. Last time they did it all automatically but here I have to go to reception to book scans. Even with my MW down here its up to me to arrange appointments but they indicate when they want to see me. I haven't seen them since I was 7 weeks and they don't want to see me until next week. I will be 24 weeks. It is annoying everywhere I'd different!

Not one told me I had to, which is what annoyed me. In my last hospital you gave the receptionist your notes then they kept them wrote everything in and I got them back from the women who does the scan. I would get a letter in the post with the next scan on and a number to call to change it.

My midwife today was like well into good you came today otherwise you wouldn't have gotten one :/ then asked if I'm finding out the sex and I said I had already had a private sex scan she looked at me weird and didn't xay anything after. Oh is it illegal to go private?! If anything it's actually saved us money because of all the stuff we bought in the sales. Sorry just ranting! Also my consultant appointment isn't until the 26th when I was supposed to be seen at 16 weeks... meh fed up with this new hosp already! X
