August 2017 babies!

Congrats on team pink :)

I know that you mean about feeling content, I'm the same. It's a nice feeling :)

Congratulations on team pink - beautiful names x we've got loads of bits on eBay which has saved a fortune and friends have given me stuff too. X

Any ftm going to the parenting classes? Plus has anyone been, what happens? X

I went when I was pregnant with my first from what i can remember they talk you through labour, what pain relief options there is and essentially what is most likely to happen and show you a video of a natural birth and a section x

What a Gorgeous day!! I have overdone it with the house work and am sore and I still had loads to do. Oh well! I have bought stuff on eBay and off local fb sales pages. I hadn't needed much really, it was more stuff for Athena in her new room. I need to consider decorating it which I absolutely hate!!

Oh I thought it was to teach you how to do stuff with baby (I don't have a clue aha!)... well I'm nit going to that then.

Congratulations on your little girl :) x

So just been Googling on how to look after new borns (I'm sure it'll come naturally when she's here though right?) Anyway my mil is insisting on buying us a bumper pack thing for the cot, and ive just read that they're really dangerous, even though she said it's not, i feel like a dick if i turn around and say don't buy us one, and hubby is pissed off that I won't be using it! I said I will put it on when she comes round and take it out when after. :/ I'm sorry I don't wanna put my baby in danger.
Parenting advice changes all the time, and I bet when our kids are having kids everything will be different.

Ah I just had this conversation with my step MIL earlier in Mothercare! Though she was like oh really? So it was okay. But yeah I guess these things were common when we were little so they don't understand!

Had a lovely day, drove up to Ikea (which is like a 2hr trip) and bought all the nursery furniture, and some stuff for our bedroom too :) Now just have to build the bloody stuff lol.

I have a breathable mesh one that goes all round the crib stopping him from putting his arms and legs out. Those ones are safe. But then again I had a normal one for my son and it was fine just have to be tight and tied properly but I understand not risking it. That's why we have the breathable this time xx

Ikno you can get breathable ones, but I read about them getting stuck in the string. Read a story of a woman who's 9 month old dying because she got trapped in the string. Not just about being breathable imo. X

The one I have doesn't have any string on it I wouldn't have one with string because of all the stories x

I just wouldn't bother. I was given some but didn't put them on. I never had any incidents with Athena putting her arms through either. For people with cats, do not get the mesh ones for over the top.... Totally pointless. I got it to shut my MIL up as we have cats ( as did she so don't get what her point is) as she kept saying the cats would lay on the baby... I put it on to try it and the cat thought it was a hammock and lay on it. When it wasn't there they had no interest. I just closed the cats out the room and they were scared of her any way! Only one goes in her room now and sleeps on her chair. Xx

Yeah I'd never have anything over the top. My cats don't get in the bedroom when the baby is small unless we are there and it's during the day but my cats are scared of babies

We weren't planning on letting our two cats in the nursery (or our bedroom after he's born). But I think they will be very apprehensive about this new screamy thing anyway!

I swear they are. I have 1 cat who loved athena the minute she arrived home. I have loads of pics of him laying next to her but it was always when we were laying on the sofa too. Even now he will open the door to her room and patrol the room and leave. He is Siamese so very loving.

My cat is very needy, and will scratch the door until she's in and sleeps in the bed with us. She's also very clawy, our settees are awful! Hope she won't do it to the baby stuff lol.
I have 2 dogs to, my staffy is so loving but dunno how less attention will affect her liking the baby! My other dog is scared of absolutely anything, even if you pick up a bottle for a drink she runs into her cage... we got her from a bad place tho, think she was abused... she's never really been around kids so God knows how she'll react, they sleep in cages of a night and aren't allowed upstairs unless were up there they are quite well behaved though so I don't think it'll be a problem! They're my babies heh. X

Ours are the same atm PB. They always sleep with us! We are gonna try and get them used to it about a month before. I will miss them tbh! They are v gentle though so I'm not worried about that.

That's sweet Jill :) hopefully mine will get used to him and be like that! One of mine is better with strangers than others.

Hey, I wouldn't be afraid of putting my MIL straight about this at all (neither would my partner though) cot bumpers have been proven to be very dangerous and it's not just strings, if a baby that has learnt to roll, rolls into it then it's possible they could suffocate by having their faced mushed against the fabric. It's the exact same reasoning as why you should only use cellular blankets (the ones with big air holes) and not have loads of toys in with baby. I still don't let my 2 year old have toys in bed with her. I read an awful story about one of the cots that attaches to your bed, the one this mum had had a little 2-3 inch divider you could put up between the cot and the bed when you were done feeding them. The mum put her baby who she didn't think could roll or move yet in the cot for a nap and came back a while later to find baby had moved right over to the divider and got her head over it but then apparently run out of energy and collapsed onto the divider with body on one side and head on the other and cut off her air supply and died. It was a horrific story and perhaps a freak accident which is how the 'older generation' tend to view advice about no cot bumpers but it really isn't worth the risk. I was offered a second hand one through the family and flat out turned it down because I said I would never use it because of he dangers. My daughter puts her arms and legs out the bars all the time but it has never caused a problem and never hurt her x

I am sure they will. The cats are lovely with her and so is my dog. They are a bit sick of being chased by her just now as she finds it hilarious! This is Gino with athena and my nephew... He is always like his or keeping guard.
