August 2017 babies!

Well my midwife appointment was a waste of time... she said she didn't book me a long enough appointment to do all the paper work with me.
Also said i didn't need to eat consultant lead & wasnt high risk...I was like yes i do/am, one because I'm overweight, second I've had 6 miscarriages and third because I have a bleed on my uterus that needs to be kept an eye on. She was like oh..OK when we have our next appointment I'll book you in with a consultant. Obvious didn't read my notes.. x

Ah what a nightmare PB. They are so overstretched these days :/

That's rubbish PB, I'd feel so annoyed that I wasn't getting the care I should :( x

That's so frustrating PB. When's your next appointment? Can you phone the maternity unit directly and get your consultant appointment booked sooner rather than having to wait for her?

Hi All,
Update: The GP didn't know what the orange/brown patches on my hand were - blood test showed slightly raised liver enzymes and I'm being re-tested in a week to see what they are like then. I'm very much in the dark and concerned as you can imagine. Such a weird thing to have happen and no one seem to have a clue. There's a couple of people online, which happen to be pregnant, with something similar but most replies they had were all to do with fruit/rust/iodine in food sorts of results which don't really apply to me! I guess next weeks results are the first step to hopefully somewhere.

PB - that is ridiculous, the way that appointment was conducted - seems pointless to have even bothered turning up!! When I was told I would be consultant led, I just had to book from 22 weeks with the consultant via the hospital reception, so to be honest, there is no referral process as such - just get yourself booked in and let her know it's happened next time. Lets face it, she isn't going to remember you or yours notes if this appt is anything to go by :-(!!!

Ooh, lots of boys and one girl - I really want to know but sticking to Team Yellow for the moment. Another few weeks before the 20 wk scan. Hoping this medical problem in the meantime isn't going to affect the baby :-(

Ah Spuds that's not good :( But if they don't know what it is hopefully it's just something really minor. At least they are looking into it for you now :) Fingers crossed for you.

Just picked up a load of secondhand stuff from my mum's work colleague. Got a playmat/baby gym, baby bath, bouncer, bottle warmer, changing mat and sling for £35! Some of it must have been really expensive brand new. I'll take some pics of it all when my OH gets home from work in a min and we take a proper look at it :)

Cats don't seem convinced yet ha. If only they knew!

Oooh i like the bouncer. Really into all the grey bits tht there are. Im going to my cousins tomorrow as shes got some things. For me to go through aswell so see what i come back with

I've bought a couple of things on eBay and they have been great! They look nearly brand new! The bouncer looks fab especially for the price you paid for it all!

My pram arrived last night so I have that down my mam and dads and I also have my Chicco next 2 me and my swing and that's it lol.

Ah nice they look good! The bouncer was only £8 I think!

Spuds,
Sending hugs to you. Like MissCharli said, hopefully the fact that they do not know means it is something very minor, I really hope so my lovely and keeping all of my fingers crossed for you that it is nothing to do with or affecting the baby. Please do keep us updated, hope you get the answer soon  xx

PeanutButter,
hugs, feeling frustrated for you, this is resonating with me as my experience with my midwives has not been good either xx

MissCharli,
the cats look like they are exploring/wondering what all this new stuff is there for :D

Welcome to our new members and
Love to all of you August mamas to be xx

Hi ladies. Hope everyone is feeling fine today :)
It looks like it's time to start getting some babystuff ready - I have not bought anything so far and feel really frustrated with all these baby lists.

Have any of you been to Baby&Toddler Show? I got an invite for April show and it looks like a nice place to see some of the items in real life.

Do you buy second hand stuff on eBay? I've been thinking about exploring second hand options, the problem is I don't really know what exactly I want.

I'm not sure I would get anything from ebay, just because I think I'd like to see it first. I hadn't seen the stuff from my mum's friend, but I trusted my mum's judgement!

I don't have a really long list of things to get, and most of them I want to get new anyway. But I am looking out for a next 2 me/snuzpod on Gumtree because I really want one!

I don't think there any baby/toddler shows down here! We tend to miss out on anything exciting down in the South West :P

Hi Svetlana - my partner's an eBay fanatic and now the baby's on the way has (thankfully) traded his usual obsessions for getting baby gear. We bid on a snuzpod and got it for £105 and a sling I wanted for £35, so we've saved about half the cost of both. Haven't received them yet, but there's usually some protection if the goods don't meet their description.

MissCharli - if you want a snuzpod, might be worth looking on eBay as well as Gumtree? I think there's a way you can work out what's close-ish to you for pickup. We're driving an hour for ours, but figured probably worth the effort. I'll let you know Tuesday when we pick it up if it proves an awful idea!

I have two Stokke sleepi cots which cost about £700+ new. Both of them I got secondhand through gumtree. My little girl was still in her cot when I had my son (in fact she is still in it) so I needed a second and I loved it so much that I thought I'd just get another. The first one I got came with the stokke changing table too and I paid £300 and the second was just the cot and was £150. Both of them were in great condition and when I'm eventually done having babies I expect I'll still manage to sell them on. This time last year I also got the mamas and papas oak 'ocean' chest of drawers with changer top for £50 and they sel for £850 new! It was a bit rickety so I used wood glue to make it rock solid and it's honestly as good as new. If you are thinking about second hand nursery furniture then that range is really high quality and you can turn up some bargains on gumtree x

I enjoyed saving money getting things second hand.
Having a baby can be ridiculously expensive otherwise.
The only things you should be cautious about are car seats (unless you implicitly trust the source and you know it's not been involved in any sort of accident) and mattresses as there is some sort of cot death association.

Enjoy eBay shopping.
I found certain boot fairs to be great, especially for newborn clothes, picked stuff up for as little as 5p as people are keen to clear out the baby stuff and just want to get rid.
Also a big nct fan, got virtually all my daughter's clothes and toys in the first year second hand from nct sales.

Xx

I'm also eBaying a few of the big things - matching John Lewis wardrobe and changing table in solid wood and amazing condition for £30 each. My friend is gifting us loads including bednest, Moses basket, hammock, car seat, pump loads of toys and it means we only need to buy new mattresses, pram bedding and monitors ( picked up a babysense breath sensor New in box on eBay of £25 too). I'm going to the baby show in nec in may. I have heard the discounts are amazing so hoping to get our pram there x

There is an NCT sale near us tomorrow and I was debating whether it is worth going? I've been looking on eBay for Chicco next2me cribs and snuzpods but nothing under £100 yet, I guess you have to factor in buying a new mattress too!

There's one near me on gumtree for £35! Someone is going to view it tomorrow apparently but if they don't want it it's mine!! I'm not hopeful though :P

I will have a look on ebay, but like with the baby shows there's hardly anything down here in terms of other towns/cities. Also I hate bidding on stuff ha. I may try and convince my OH to go to a few carboots though, he hates them :p

I got a next2me on gumtree in excellent condition the other day for £90, was buzzing with the bargain xx
