August 2017 babies!

Rach I know what you mean.. seems we are at that point where things start to look more prominent!

It's nice because the nice maternity tops start looking like they should around the bump :)
Xx

Aww beautiful bumps girls!!! :cloud9:

Prrrfect any frozen milk I used to defrost in the refrigerator overnight the night before. I mostly just kept bottles in fridge to give withing a couple of days. To bring to ideal temp for feeding I used an Avent bottle warmer which brought the milk to the right temp for bubba to drink xx

Looks even flatter in the photo ha!

I would defrost frozen breast milk in the fridge or put the bag in some hot water if I needed it quickly. I just had to throw away 9 litres of breast milk - it was heart breaking but because my son refused a bottle it all just sat in the freezer and it had been in there longer than the maximum recommended. I'd looked at donating but the Scottish milk bank rules say it has to be milk from the first 6 months after birth and can't have been in freezer more than 2 months so all mine was no good by the time I looked at it :( I worked so hard to express it so that I had milk to leave him if I needed to leave him with someone else but he just never would.

I'm not sure when I would start trying to give a bottle of expressed - with my daughter I was forced to at about 6 weeks because Of the trouble I was having with her screaming and pulling away from the thrush but she never went back to the boob once she was regularly getting bottles of it. I don't think I attempted expressed milk with my son for a couple of months and by then i feel like it was maybe too late, I tried him with a small amount a bit earlier and he did drink it so I think if I'd had carried on doing a small bit each day I might have not given myself a problem. Only thing is that when you are breastfeeding effectively it seems like a total pain to sterilise bottles and everything so I just couldn't be bothered! I have also just realised that I think he has a lip tie (the bit joining your upper lip to the gum can be too big) and apparently that can cause trouble with bottles early on so that might have been what the problem was!

I certainly wouldn't introduce a bottle of expressed milk in the first two weeks and probably not the first month x

Oh my top tip for new mummies is to buy yourself a couple of dummies (one cherry teat shape and one of the flatter orthodontic shapes) just in case. I was adamant I would never want to give my baby a dummy. Then I had a baby and discovered that I wanted my little finger back (she was always sucking on it to calm down). She took a dummy straight away (although won't give it up now). My little boy really didn't want to take one but preferred the flatter style and I just kept putting it in until he got the hang of it (took few weeks!) because otherwise I would never have gotten a moment's peace as he really would have fed all the time. I never had any problem with nipple confusion or anything like that. I even gave him it in the hospital the day after he was born because I still remember the first night with my daughter, I was up all night with her trying to settle her and if she had had a dummy I know she would have been much easier to handle! X

Hello ladies, been trying to catch up again, writing on this forum was far easier with my first pregnancy I seem to never find time this time round. Loving all the bumps, and I am slightly jealous I still have absolutely nothing in the way of a bump, but I am 5 feet 10 and think my babies just tend to lie hidden for a long time. I had my 16 week appointment today, and so far so good, heard the heart beat which she found quite quickly and easily so I was very please as I seem to have all of my fears about the baby still in my head. My 20 week scan is on the 30th march and I have an appointment with the consultant on the 20th April so hopefully I will get more answers as to how everything is going to go.

Hope all you are keeping well, my sickness is slowly getting better so hopefully I will start to feel more normal again soon :)

And congrats everyone on team blue :) love finding out the genders :) but I seem to lose track of who is all next so will be keeping my eyes pealed :) xxx

Ahh you do look little Charli
Youl soon pop out! Haha!!

Hoping 4rainbow great to know I can keep it in fridge for a couple of days (if I was to express them feed that the same day I could just put it straight in the fridge then?
Il have a look for the The bottle warmer and get that ready too..

Rose again great advice- il definitely get the dummies you recommend- I find it interesting how no confusion with this but possibly with the bottle I surpose the dummies are not feeding but only comfort-
Personal question but my nipples are soft unless cold and not very big nipples do you think it could be bigger nipples help stop confusion too?

It sounds as though your boy may have took boob and bottle well from the start- so from all this information I may just try to feed the odd bottle after the 1st week and use the dummies from the start as you say :)

If all goes tits up hahahaha I have plan B !

I'm hiring a hospital grade pump from around £20 a month - anyone heard of this?
So if he goes off the boob il express and bottle feed instead :)

Kiwi it must be hard finding time when you've not been feeling well either that doesn't help!!
Glad it looks like it will be easing off for you...
I dreading that before coming pregnant I thought how horrible it would be to be very sickly :(

I know I'm wondering who next for gender scans too!!??? Xx

My scan is booked for the 20th and hubby booked it off work so it won't change now, yay! Can't wait. Xx

Thanks for all the info and tips re breastfeeding. I definitely want to try it but also want to express so my dh can be part of feeding.

My scan is on Saturday 11th. I'll be exactly 16 weeks to hopefully we should be able to tell. I've felt boy all the way so far but as we are due a girl in the group you never know x

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend x

Prrfect I would say don't try a bottle until after two weeks minimum because otherwise you will mess up your supply coming in and I would also not try more than one bottle a day so you avoid confusion. I might have just been lucky with mine not getting confused with a dummy but i know other mums that have said the same. Your nipples sound normal to me! For anyone trying breastfeeding for the first time though I think the best thing is just to prepare yourself for the fact it isn't comfortable at first but that goes away after the first couple of weeks so you need to power through! Get Lansinoh nipple cream and apply after ever feed from the very first feed to stop your nipples cracking and bleeding. It's expensive but worth every penny - Amazon is the cheapest place to order it. Breast feeding really isn't easy and I know loads of people who have given up very quickly but that's mainly because they thought it was going to be easy and then when the reality of having a baby sitting feeding on them for most of the day kicked in they freaked out. The best way I had it explained to me is that when baby is born their stomach is the size of a small marble, so they can only take a tiny quantity and it is then absorbed really quickly so they need to feed again. By day three the tummy is the size of a larger marble but they really do have very tiny tiny tummies for a long time. You'll be sitting in hospital wondering why all the formula feeders have this totally quiet sleeping baby but it's because their tummies have been filled right up and formula is harder to digest so it takes them much longer to feel hungry again.

Expressed milk can be kept at room temperature for about 5-6 hours, 5-6 days in the fridge and frozen 6-8 months. It's possible to have an overactive enzyme (I do) which means that when you defrost the milk it smells like soap or paint but it isn't harmful and if you're baby will drink it its still fine - it hasn't gone off its just that the enzyme has continued working in the milk and causes this smell. But don't worry not everyone has that! My top tip for expressing is that you don't need to sterilise the pump etc every time you use it if you put it in a poly bag and put it in the fridge until the next time you use it that day (don't do this for longer than a day but pumping at say 9am then again at 6pm or something would be fine if you hadn't sterilised in between and it had been in the fridge.)

My gender scan is the 15th but I think a couple of people are before me. Im counting the days! X

Wow Rose so much information!
I've actually screenshot all this so I have it in photos for reference
Thanks!
Tasha p me too would like hubby to do some feeds I know he will want to, make them feel involved as possible!
:)

11th Tasha p
15th Rose
And peanut 20th
For gender scans

I keep thinking imagine if all boys!!
Be very strange!!

And wonder if anyone has same names!!!
I'm not spilling the name till birth though!

Nope we are keeping our name to ourselves until it's born. We might end up changing our minds! My oh was supposed to be a jarred but somehow looked more like a Samuel :)

We have a girls name and have 3 boys names. People keep asking me what they are and don't understand why I don't wanna tell them :/ cos I don't wanna settle on a name then it not suit baby when it's here... and I don't want people to steal the other name of gender were not having xD

We had a name pretty much straight away and was for either boy or girl. Just trying to decide on a middle name or wether not to have one

Ah at least you have all decided! I find boys names really difficult!

Hi Everyone,

So, a bit of a weird experience this morning - work up to brown spots/patches on my left palm and fingers - Doctor doesn't seem to know what they are, so they've taken some blood samples for testing. Such conflicting information online (as usual). Has anyone had anything similar to this? - Doctor did say most likely pregnancy related. They have faded a little now, but can re-appear by all accounts.

Thanks.
