The perfect age gap

Opinions please ladies! What do you think is the perfect age gap between siblings (if you believe there is one at all)?

I'm the youngest of 3 girls. The age gap between me and my oldest sister is 9 and a half years and between my middle sister is 7 and a half years. My sisters are 33 and 31 and haven't spoken for 5 years since the 31 year olds wedding and before that for probably about another 5 if not more years! They do not get on at all. I get on wonderfully with both my sisters. I wonder if this is to do with the age gap?

When baby arrives my DD will be 6 and a half and I think this is quite a good age gap. She understands what's going on and can help out/be really involved with baby.

So what age gaps do you guys think are best?

Now im different, Me and my 2 older sisters talk but we are not close they are 29 and 31 and they are closer to each other then they are to me and im 20, which is 9years. My daughter will be 4 when her brother arrives and ideally i wanted to have about 2/3 yr gap but ended up with a 4year gap. I dont think id do a bigger gap then 5 IMO x

I dont think there is a perfect gap. with my 2 their is a 13 month age gap and when this little one is born there will be a 5yr gap from the youngest, bit i did say to my hubby before we started trying i dont want a bigger gap than 5 years, purely on the fact of me working and not wanting to go back to work just to give up again in a few years lol

i had 4 yrs between me and my older bro and same with my younger we all got on ok till we grew up lol my dd will be 11 when this one arrives bit more of a gap than id have liked but on plus side she is more understanding and not quiet old enough to be resentfull of loss of my time/attention

theres a year gap between me and my sister and i find because we are so close in age we clash at times but at the same time are really close
theres also a 9 year gap between me and my youngest sister and sometimes i find it hard to relate to her and she sometimes feels left out at home as there is on one of her age to play with

I don't think there is a 'perfect' age gap,there's 2 years and 8 months between my eldest 2 and although they got on great wen they were younger they now fight continously! I was the eldest of 3 sisters and we fought all the way thru chidhood but get on great now,and our kids r the same sort of age so that's nice for them aswel x

Me and me older sisters are close as there are not much age gap, the 17 year old has always been the young one that cant be with us all the time, but also our little gorgeous darling and the youngest is so far away from us its hard to see her as a sister. I think close is good, i dont think the 17year old liked to grow up wit 3 sisters that had everythin to talk about but she wasnt in the "group" she didnt have anyone.

There are two and a half years between my sister and I. We got on fine as kids and probably get on better now, although she is a funny awkward character. I've never really thought about age gaps for our children, only in the respect of how old I'd be when having another.

There's 14yrs between my 1st and 2nd and 17 months between 2nd and 3rd! The 14 yr gap wasnt through choice - I am remarried but the 17 month was and it's working out well for us so far and I'm hoping in 12 months time things will be even easier. They should be into the same things at the same time, they will start school one September after the other and I hope they will be close. My sister and I are 2 and a half years apart and that's a nice gap too - we are very close and while we scraped as kids we were close even then. My 17 month old is just a bit too young to be outwardly jealous of Sid just yet so it's been easy bringing another LO into the mix. My almost 3 yr old nephew is more jealous and pulls 'nannie' (my mum) away from Sid

my sister and i are 7 years apart and while i was still a kid (around up to 15) all my sister was was a sister, as in we didnt do anything socially together- we got on we had the sibling scraps but it was just like she was always around just coz shes my sister, i cant explain it very well, i guess what im trying to say it until i was around 17/18 and could start going out with my sister and socialising and i was more mature we were just siblings but now we are really great friends too because we can get involved in the same stuff xxx

There was a 2 year difference between all of my siblings, I think that is a good amount. I personally wouldn't wait too long.

There is a 7 year age gap between my eldest and my middle one, and a 11 month age gap between the middle one and youngest.

My eldest LOVES the LO's but i imagine as he gets older will get fed up of them. My one year old LOVES the baby and is always kissing him, although is is rather rough with him. I am hoping that the 2 young ones will be close but i know 2 brothers who are in their 30's with an 11 month age gap and they really hate each other and always have

Me and my brother have 21 month between us and have always been very close xx

There are 4 of us girls, 37, 34 (me), 32 and 30. I am close to my sister who is 32, my little sister I dont really get on very well with and my older sister is a right control freak, she lives away and have only seen her once since last August!
There will be almost 2 years between my babies when this one arrives

I'm one of three, 2 years between my older sister and I and 3 years between me and my younger brother. we all argued allot when we were small, oldest and youngest getting on more due to gap I think. I used to hate betting all of my sisters handmedowns that were then 2 years out of fashion!

I have 23 mths between my eldest and 2nd , and 13mths between my 2nd and 3rd, which was great.

I am trying for another, and lookslike there will be about 9 years age gap between 3rd and last baby, hoping thatwon't be too bad, that's why I want 5 ,but have no chance as OH said yes to 1 and no to 2 more. I want it to have a playmate at same age, but OH wants just to enjoy one small one for a change as it has been a hard few years as they grow up so close together.

there is 3,1/2 year between my first and my 2nd and i now think this is too big my little boy is at full time school and the way there birthdays fall there will be quite a few years between them at school what my little boy isnt happy with keeps telling me when his friends brothers and sisters are starting nursery and want to know when dolly will. also things like the pictures we have to take it in turns to take him as dolly is still to younge to sit there that long. This time there will me 2year 4 months between my 2nd and my 3rd so im hoping this will be better.

i am one of 4 there is 18months between the first 3 of us but my mam had my youngest brother when i was 14 and and he is now 11, we have all grow up and moved out and he says its like being an only child even tho he has 3 brother and sisters he said he tells the kids at school about us and they all thought it was an only child lol so i want to have all mine close as its like my mum started over again.

Hello, interseting thread,

There are 10 years between me and my brother due to my parents struggling to conceive me all that time. Ideally they wanted a couple of years. Me and my brother get on well but we dont have much in common but are close. If me and oh conceive there will be a huge difference between our child and his daughter as she is 17. I think 3 or 4 years would be nice but theres no rule is there its whats best for you.

I think 18 months - 35 months dependent on how they fall with relation to the school year.

I am the eldest of four and there is 18 months; 2yrs 3 months; 2 years between us. Between me and the second eldest is only 1 school year and we clashed a lot and had trouble with overlapping groups of friends (he wouldn't share!). If he'd been a few months younger, then he'd have been in the school year below that and I think things would have been less fraught between us. I think the age gap between me and the youngest (6yrs) meant that we have been at different stages whilst growing up, there was a period of time that we were on the same page when she started going out (~17) and I was just out of Uni but then I changed and she didn't catch up until she'd been working for awhile.

So I think 2 school years is a nice gap (what I'm aiming for), close enough in age to have things in common but enough of a gap for independence.

There is 6 years between me and my brother and we're not really that close tbh. There is 15 months between the same brother & my sister and their as close as anything but fight like cat and dog, however I don't think their is a perfect age gap!

There is 20 months between my daughter and twins. There is some jeleousy but only now when she's a bit older and understnds more.
Both my pregnancies were planned and i love the age gap, it can be hard but they get closer and closer together every day and i am sure they will be inseparable when they are older, they'll be like triplets

I want to have another child and again, i want a small age gap between them because i think it works well for us and for them.

I have 23 mths between boy 1 and boy 2 and then 13 mths between boy 2 and my girl, two weeks off of having three under three. Very busy and find it hard even now as they all clash, and three is such a strange number

I am now having number 4 (planned) but will be nearly 9 years age gap!
I am hoping that my fiesty three, will learn to come togther in a common thing of little baby number 4 , they were so close, none of them remember each other being born etc. It may be a complete pipedream, time will tell, but 4 might just swing the balance back. Having said that would like 5 as don't like the idea of number 4 not having a playmate , but oh has said NO!
