The Gestational Diabetes support thread

That sounds like a perfect diet plan hun well done you. I test first thing in the morning for my fasting reading and 1 hour after each meal as this is when your sugar is at it's peak. I am not sure if this differs from hospital to hospital though x

Oh right. How much it should be at 1 h for it to be considered a food control?

I was told to measure BS just before a meal and 2 hours after!!

I've just found my little record book and even the day before u was induced I still struggled with the lunchtime one as it was hovering around 9 for the previous week!!!! X

My targets are set at under 6 for my fasting reading to be normal and under 7.8 an hour after food

my book they gave me said :

Recommended levels :

Before breakfast (fasting) : 4.0 - 6.0

2 hours after breakfast, lunch and eve meal : 4.0 - 7.0

I hope that helps? Xx

It helps, I can't thank you enough girls  I will probably try both at 1 h and 2 at the beginning and see how that goes...
My poor fingers :(

A little tip so it doesn't hurt so much it hold the pen to the side rather then on the finger pad and dont use your thumb or index finger. You hardly feel it that way and change the finger you prick as the skin can toughen up
I'm only learning as I go Hun and if it werent for ladies like jaxx I would be been lost. ask away I am happy to answer any questions you have x

I'm happy to answer anything too :D AR you are doing fab by the sounds of it! Glad it's not as scary as you thought!! I think once you get your head around it it all seems a bit better :D xx

Thank you both so much  my oh will buy a glucose meter today in his way home from work so I should start some measurements this afternoon.
Talking to a colleague trainee doctor in diabetes in Greece she advised me for the first week to measure first in the morning, before every meal and 2h later after a main meal.
So I will go with that until I see the doctor here next week.
Anyway for this morning I had an omelette with 2 eggs, spinach and mushrooms....
I almost vomited thinking of that kind of food first in the morning but as its important to get a good amount of protein and fat in the morning and a small amount of carbs, so it helps you regulate the blood sugar during the day, I just went for it
It was yummy and I could never believe that I can stomach sth more than toast and tea in the morning but let's only hope it's a step to the right direction...

Now I will have to figure out what I will have fur lunch....I suppose not a sandwich as usual lol...

Ok first reading before diner 5.3 off for diner now and checking again in 2 h.

That's great hun. My breakfast reading was 11  that was all bran
Omelette for lunch and reading was 9.8
I have also had a hypo between then so had a small pack of jellies to bring my sugars up x

Do you have a long lasting one that you do before sleep too?

No hun but my levels are creeping up on my fasting readings so I think I will be put on a slow release to. I'm not sure how that works but I have my clinic next week x

Great that will help you loads
Btw I have a problem with pinching my finger :(
I have 3 settings for a small medium or big pinch. I tried the medium it didn't quite work and then the big one that it hurt like hell, it bled there for like 10 min and also made a hematoma

Ouch that sounds painful! This is the pen I have and I set it to 2

it shouldn't be painful x

I have no idea :( is that your insulin pen or the one that you use to get a drop of blood for the measurement?

It's the one to get my sugar readings you load the lancet inside the pen and click the button x
