Mummies Running Club :D

Earphones are against UKA rules in any affiliated race, i normally ignore it but they are starting to crack down on it now and disqualify anyone that is caught. I always train with my ipod but on Sunday the last thing i wanted was to be disqualified so I went with no ipod! The thought of 26.2 miles with no music to sing along to/keep me sane was scary but thinking about it now, it was great in a few ways:
1) i could listen to my body better, breathing ect
2) It got me talking and mixing with other runners more than I normally would and
3) it made me appreciate the atmosphere and support so much more.

So from now on my ipod is being ditched when im running even training x x

M2A that sounds like serious dedication! Well done :-) I don't think I'll ever be able to run without my iPod.
This morning my watch decided it wouldn't pick up GPS. Soo annoying. Walking around for about fifteen minutes with it. Oh is busy powering it up and down in an attempt to get it going :-(

Hope you managed to sort it Rednursie.

Is it tomorrow Mel has her race? I cant remember whether its this weekend or next.

Im getting all excited for my 10k in December now, i didnt look at the course map when i booked it and i was informed today its a trail race up until the last 1k! So i treated myself to some new trail shoes today :) Maybe not looking forward to the mud but my knee are looking forward to a break from the hard road/pavements.
Here they are

Lovely trail shoes, love the colour :-)
I think Mel's run I'd today? Good luck Hun if it is!
My watch worked find yesterday in the end. Did I nice 6 miler, felt great after all the long runs. Off to a friends for lunch now but would like to get my kit together this evening as I start night shifts tomorrow. I'm going straight to the airport on Friday morning when I finish to catch my flight to Dublin xxx

Hey ladies, sorry Ive been a bit MIA.

Will have to catch back up with this thread but just a tired  from me. Haven't long got home after the mudrunner and it as torture but amazing. Every part of me aches. Im hoping to do the mudrunner ice breaker in febuary which is a duathlon with the race I did today followed by 20km off road bike ride and finishes with a 3km run. Can't wait!

Well done Mel, i seen your pic on facebook :) even though your aching did you enjoy it?
The ice breaker sounds fab.

Thanks Sunnygirl, i have the marathon bug now and im going back for more :)

Glad your watch started working rednursie, bet your getting excited now!

I got my head torch today ready for some twilight trail runs with the girls, its going to be so much fun :) x x

Such sad news, a runner lost their life today doing the Great Birmingham Run as we are all one big family, i thought it would be nice to show our respects on this thread.
RIP, my thoughts are with their family and friends.
Just goes to show live life to the full and never live regretting that you didnt do something, just do it x x

That's so terrible, poor guy and his poor family

AM well done for today :yay: the icebreaker sounds fun too!!

Rednursie how are you feeling about the weekend?

M2A I love your trail shoes!! I used to do xc running absolutely loved it, so think I would quite enjoy trail running. Also I didn't know that about running with music in affiliated races  but when you think about it, it makes sense. But I do enjoy running to music especially Greenday, the rhythm of their songs keeps me going!!

Pos you just stick to your own pace. A few years ago I took hubby out running a couple of times and he complained the whole way round so I vowed never again!!

I'm being crap again, not much motivation (although I've been away for a week) I really need to find a local race to work towards, will google tomorrow.

Just got back from my first trail run (i shouldnt of really done it because im injured) but it was absolutely fantastic :) A 10k full of mud, head torches, killer hills and a gang of 5 girls having a great laugh!
I did a 10mile cycle last night too, which i enjoyed surprisingly!
Im in tomorrow as its my little divas birthday, cant believe shes 1 already, we taking her to a soft play area then spending the rest of the day visiting family :)
Hows everyone else getting on this week? x x

M2A Ive decided trail running is addictive! When I get my first pay check trail shoes will be the first thing I buy :D You've got a trail race coming up haven't you?

Managed to get out for a run today but went a tad fast so did about a mile at a faster pace and then intervals sprints on the mile back. Going up the hill this weekend which will be good then a slow 3 miler next week ready for my 5 mile race on November 4th.

Thinking of starting up a blog too that'll follow my training and starting trail running. Going to get a head camera to take on some races and training sessions too. Ive got a group of 3 or 4 of us that are going to run at least once a month and joining a womens running group in my town next week too. Really going to start giving it my all now :)

Sounds fab Mel :) A blog will help you keep focused and they are great to look back at too, i always buy the academic diaries too, write what i do in training and if i have a good race i will use that training again, if i dont i will switch it around to make it work.

My passion has always been road running, i did a trail race in May and enjoyed it but my thought were on my marathon but now thats over I want to start enjoying running without a strict training plan till Christmas and tonight just confirmed that :)

Yeah ive got Adidas Kanadias, they are fantastic, not badly priced, great grip and really comfy. My next race is 9th December and its trail, eeekk! x x

Trail running sounds like fun :-) I'm off to Dublin this morning when I finish my night shift so have a couple of days down time before Monday. Very nervous but very exited too. I just hope I get enough rest and sleep this weekend after my week of night shifts xxx

Its all getting exciting now Rednursie :)

Well ive bit the bullet and im off to the docs this morning to find out whether i have shin splints or a stress fracture, im now past the denial stage, where there's nothing wrong and ill just run through it and its driving me around the bend! I really enjoyed trail on Wednesday night and was hoping id make it part of my weekly training but maybe not for a few weeks :( Fingers are crossed its something else but i very much doubt it x

Cutting a long story short the doctor wasnt very helpful, didnt explain what it was, didnt tell me whether I can still run! He felt down my shin and gave me high strength ibru gel, heat cream and pain killers, just what i wanted when id been using that anyway and it didnt make a difference! So I have two options either xtrain and continue with the treatment the doctor gave me or go and spend hours in a&e just to check its not a stress fracture!

Good luck for today Rednursie, hope everything goes to plan and you enjoy your amazing experience, dont forget to take some piccies and give us a race report :) x

Thanks M2A I am thrilled with how my run went. Amazing atmosphere, great weather and felt good for most of it too :-) (Apart from having a runners tummy and needing the loo five times that is!) Crossed the finish line at four hours fifty five. Over the moon :-)
RE your injury M2A you can get your GP to refer you in for an X-ray to rule out a stress fracture, you don't have to do it through A&E.(In fact I would advise against going through A&E) As your GP doesn't sound helpful go in stating that you think you have a stress fracture and want an X-ray to rule one out. (can also say your physio thinks so too if you like) This is much more efficient. If you describe your symptoms and history and state you need an X-ray he can't refuse. Where abouts are you tender? I hope you dont mind my questions but I work in A&E myself Xxx

Well done Rednursie, thats fantastic.
Ive had an xray today, they found a shadow but its inconclusive whether its a stress fracture or not, so i have to wait for the full report in the least its soft tissue damage and have been told no running and got told off for running my marathon like it :( im gutted but going to see it as a positive, a nice rest, some xtraining and some weight training then ill come back stronger than ever ready for a year full of pb's in 2013 ;) x x

Really glad you got an X-ray. I'll cross my fingers the report is okay. I hpe you do rest it now though Hun!
Getting into a bath now and worried I won't be able to get out lol! xxx
