Medical Termination - has anyone had to have this? :-(

Hello,

We have been pregnant for 5 weeks and 2 days when I started to see brown spotting that turned into fresh bleeding (just like a period but less in amount), so we rang the GP who then sent us for an emergency vaginal scan.

To our shock the scan showed an " irregular intra-uterine gestation sac with yolk sac located in the right horn of a subseptate uterus. Follow up arranged in 1 week to check viability. "

Sorry, I just copied that out of the report, but the dr said a medical termination might be necessary but we didn't quite understand why, although we do trust the dr, it is just that we were surprised to hear that.

So I wondered if anybody has ever had a similar experience and went on to have a healthy pregnancy? Or have they had a medical termination?

Also, if they will advise a medical termination, how long would it be before we can try to conceive again, would we be at the risk of this same condition or was it just pure bad luck?

I was also told via the vaginal ultrasound, that I have an indentation on my womb (apparently it is a little heart shaped), so again, would that cause problems with further pregnancies? Am I doomed with a faulty reproductive system?:cry:

Then I am also wondering if next week after the second scan they say the pregnancy can continue, but then something else consequently will go wrong further down the line? Would I have a defected baby? Would I have a high chance of stillbirth? I think there is NOTHNG more torturous than having to go through that, so now I am full of worry and wonder if it would be just better to go with the medical termination?

I was so devastated to hear the news, but I would be even more devastated if things went wrong further down the line.

Thank you for listening! xxx

Hi there , I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through, I've not experienced any of it myself, so can't be too much help. I do have a friend who had an indentation on her womb, hers was also heart shaped. She didn't find out until after she was pregnant. She went into labour early at 33 weeks but she now has a healthy 1 year old.

Take Care x

Didn't want to read and run, I'm sorry you are going through this but i can't advise I'm afraid. Xxx

Hi hun, iv not experienced this so can't give you any advice, but just want to say sorry you are going through this, i have my fingers crossed for you, keep us updated xxxx HUGS xxxx

:thanks: for taking your time to reply ladies! Really appreciate it!!!! :hugs:

I have googled both 'heart shaped wombs' and irregular sac and it is not looking too good for me, but I won't know it for sure until the second scan!

Apparently there might be a slim chance if they find a heartbeat, but I'm trying not to get too optimistic!

xxx

hi ourlove, just popped over from ttc and read your post i too also have a heart shaped womb, apparantly its called a bicornuate uterus, i did a lot of research on the net and worried myself sick, although i have had two mc, The docs said it was just unlucky and nothing to do with my womb. The worst case i think is early labour but they can put a stitch in to stop it happening, also we are prone to breech babies as there might no be much room for the baby to turn so usually a cesarian is needed (sorry dont know how to spell it lol). Please dont look on the net for answers it mostly always doom and gloom. Im not worrying about mine i take each day as it comes.
P.S i hope all goes well for you in your pregnancy and good luck for you scan next week :hugs:

Hi hun, no advice sorry but just wanted to wish u well and hope its good news at ur scan next week xxx

I'd hold off on the medical termination until they have a definite reason for it.

They don't have a yolk sac for very long, about 8 weeks i think, so i'd wait until at least then if it was me to see where everything stands after the yolk sac should have gone.

I have a friend with a bicornuate uterus and she gets pregnant fine and has full term pregnancies, it's just that the babies are born with a borderline low birth weight at 5 or 6 lbs.

I'm sorry that you have found yourself in this situation

Hi Hun didnt want to r&r but just wanted to say good luck at the next scan and praying they have it all wrong and everything will be fine. Xx

Awww, I am so confused now! On my report to the GP the gynaecologist used the term subseptate uterus, which by Dr Google sounds worse :-(

After all the horrid stories I have read recently about m/cs I am terrified!

A week or 2 ago I was on cloud 9 celebrating and skipping and laughing, and now its all just one big gloom & doom!

I'm preparing for the worst! I mean even if the scan will come back okay, I will still spend every waking hour worrying about baby and my complicated womb! I can't win :-(

I am so sorry you are going through this, I hope it all works out for you x

Wishing your scan to go well , and then all being well they would prob refer you to a consultant for your care hun. I would think they would be able to give you more information. I believe one of the moderators on here had the same issue with uterus and delivered early on most of her pregnancies , (She is not on here much now, but I think she said - when the baby runs out of room in the womb , delivery natural has to start albeit slightly early).

Hope you get some answers soon

Hi everyone!

We had a second scan yesterday at 6 weeks and 3 days, and the lady found a heartbeat! She said, congratulations, your pregnancy is viable, she could still see a little blood clot around the sac and she said that should go soon, and to come back if the bleeding continues. Now I seem to have only brown blood passing and I just wear pantyliners and it never gets full, which makes me so relieved, but as expected I am being referred to a specialist to asses the size of the septum and to make a plan of my care.

My hubby got so happy when he saw the flickering heartbeat, but last week was such a terrible roller-coaster for me, I find it hard to relax and enjoy.

I know I should be so happy right now, and I am, but I just can't seem to turn off the worry switch! xxx

This is so wonderful!!!!! So pleased for u well done! Xx

Awesome news fingers crossed you keep getting good news x x x
