Ladies doing IVF or IUI - 2015 (9 BFPs!)

Hey everyone just wanted to drop by see how you were all getting on? Been having wisdom teeth sorted, not bloody nice, and quitting smoking AGAIN! I do quit a lot but equally start a lot when things go wrong...but this time ive actually come off the e cig aswell so very proud of myself. Been having fertility smoothies and got DH on them... so feel quie healthy now ready for our next FET prob end of feb early march as ive still got to have another tooth out next week then antibiotics for a week which is same time as AF so best to leave 1 more month

I start on my next AF around 31st Jan, probably the same as MissJuly but on the long protocol starting with the Pill so egg collection won't be till early March!

just seen this, sounds like we might be in another 2ww togather blueflower, but perhaps you will be slightly ahead...heres hoping!! xxxx

im on my last round of clomid which hasn't worked for us (well it worked in the 2nd month but sadly ended in m/c) so we are onto ivf next.

I have a hospital appointment this Thursday to see the consultant I wonder what he will say any ideas?

If you're paying privately it will probably be further tests, forms to fill in then fix some dates to start, if its NHS they might put you on a waiting list. Good luck, let us know how you get on!

Hi blueflower yeah its on the nhs I think we get 2 rounds in the area we live.

Im hoping there wont be a waiting list cause ive already been at the clinic and they gave me clomid it just hasn't worked for us so ivf is next. so what is ivf? cause ive seen people talking about iui, ivf with icsi etc so whats just ivf then?

Can anyone fill me in?

IVF is where you do self injections for a couple of weeks to produce lots of eggs, then you get scanned to see if they are big enough. Next they are extracted under anaesthetic, placed with the sperm and a few days later the best embryo or embryos are transferred back to the uterus. That's it in a nutshell! They don't inject individual sperm into each egg like with ICSI. We had half ICSI and half normal IVF the first time but the sperm fertilized my eggs fine on their own so the 2nd time we had normal IVF.

Hi just wanted to say good luck girls. Hopefully I'll be joining you some time in 2015!

We're still waiting for a bfp after over 5 yrs and we were recommended to try IUI and IVF a few months ago after they found endo, but I don't like doctors in general and the one we were seeing wouldn't explain anything about what happened in my laparoscopy etc, so I lost trust in him and my phobia is a million times worse. I still have no idea what they found, other than it was endometriosis (which I forced him to tell me after I came round from the anaesthetic). I really feel like I've been treated as a piece of meat with "ticky boxes" attached. I have a ridiculous amount of allergies and reactions to meds but they won't take it seriously and we're going to start me on the usual amounts of drugs, which I can't risk as I heard they can have a negative effect on endo? They won't even think about anything unmedicated.
Anyway, Im going to get back into ttc properly now... Starting with all your support on here, and learning as much as I can about IUI/IVF, then asking to be referred to the newcastle centre for life where they have a good reputation and hopefully will look into the immune problems first as I'm sure that's the real problem - I'm killing them off before they can get anywhere!

So if icsi is putting sperm with the egg, then im still confused as to what they do with ivf? am I right in saying only in icsi they place the best sperm with the egg? as where ivf the just put all the sperm with the egg? am so thick sorry.


Hi sunnyland your kinda in the same boat as me we've been ttc for 3 years had 1 bfp which ended in m/c sadly so we are still waiting for our BFP. I know what you are saying about drs however im very lucky that the drs we deal with are very nice and understanding

Yummymummy80- sorry to hear about your mc. I feel all sorry for myself sometimes then I think about how much worse it could be mentally if I had already had a bfp and mc. Glad to hear you have nice docs- you are in good hands x

Yes, ICSI is injecting a single sperm into each egg but IVF is letting the prepared sample of sperm (spun so it just contains the best ones) find their own way into the eggs. ICSI is used if there is a sperm issue in case they might have difficulty penetrating the shell of the egg but they can only go by which ones look best. IVF means that the most capable ones get there on their own. I would recommend half and half if they offer it, then you can see which one you need if it doesn't work the 1st time.

Your experience sounds awful Sunnyland, I hope you start being treated better when you find a good clinic, will you be NHS?

How is everyone else? Any follicle scans happening?

Thanks blueflower. Yes I'll be nhs. They said I'm entitled to 6 tries of IUI, which have not much hance of working but have to be fully medicated (so may make endo worse?) then 3 tries at IVF. Once I go onto IVF I can't go back to IUI. I'm not sure what to do really, whether to try a couple of IUI, all 6, or go straight to IVF? We should be able to afford private after the 3 tries because I sadly have some inheritance from my dad coming, but obv I'm hoping I'll not have to use that. Do you think there is any chance of getting immune tests etc first on nhs? Or should I pay for them to have more info when they do the nhs iVF? So confusing! They were even visibly annoyed when I said I had a confirmed latex allergy so they had to have latex-free environment for my lap, so I'm worried they'll be worse if I ask for special things during IVF!

I doubt you'll get the immune tests on the NHS, most private clinics do them after 2 failed IVF attempts and wouldn't do them before. My DH asked why this is, but our consultant said most people get pregant after the 2nd IVF attempt so its not worth it. If you paid privately for the tests you'd then probably have to pay for the extra drugs and procedures if you needed them. If I were you I'd get your NHS treatment first and then see what happens. Unless you have any family history of immune issues?

Glad to hear that. My DH is great at them, I hate needles but wonder if I should try to do one myself.

I'm expecting AF in the next day or so to start taking the pill and baby aspirin. I have to ring the clinic to let them know the cycle has started and we're off to visit the mother in law for the weekend so I'll have to do it when she's not listening! It would be lovely if AF didn't show for once but I think she is on her way as I woke up feeling quite grotty!
