Ladies doing IUI or IVF - 2016 (11 BFPs so far!)

MrsS, good to see you around, I'll be on short protocol as they found my amh is 34, but they'll be uping the dose right from the start this time. Seems soooo long away til I start but it's only a month! :)

Good plan to take the time off, I hope everything runs smoothly. x

Hey xMillie, great news about the acunpuncture, you're going to love it! Just a quick one, why does your AMH being 34 mean you'll be on short protocol? It sounds like mine will be long (although they've not stated short or long they have said 6 weeks) and my AMH was 33.6 so just curious I suppose! I get the impression that 1st time round is more 'experimental' and when you've done it things start getting a bit more exact!

MrsS15, good to see you again, sounds like all going in the right direction for you, great news. Keep us posted on how its going I'm intrigued! haha. Good that you've got that time off too - lots of relaxing to be done! x

I'm weirdly excited for acupuncture! No idea why, I guess it's just the excitement of something that "could" help us finally... who knows! I can't wait to start :D

I felt like the first round of ivf was pretty experimental yes, my clinic didn't even want amh tested until after the failed cycle.
They've said this next time I'll be on higher dose from the start in hopes there will be more eggs to collect.

If they have said 6 weeks I would say you would be on long then.
I'm not sure how they decide whether to go for long or short and all clinics are different. Could be an age thing? Or just clinic preference? No idea!

Are you still starting in April? :)

Just catching up!

Mrs bass, I'm so sorry. Remember IUI has a really low success rate. I think IVF would be worth a try or maybe donor eggs if that doesn't work? I know how expensive surrogacy can be, I've looked into it so I can see why you'd want to skip straight to it. Also if you use your own eggs it can still take 3 goes or more to work. This is why we've not done it... oh and you needed a referral or something from your dr anyway!

Millie, 1sttimer and MrsS - how exciting! Keeping everything crossed for you.

I was going to do the long protocol on my fresh cycle (FET is different) but they changed it last minute to the short protocol when they realised I'd over-responded to clomid. They said a short protocol would let them keep a closer eye and adjust meds if necessary. So I guess it's the consultant who decides depending on your circumstances.

Millie - acupuncture is AMAZING and I'd have it every week if I could afford it, regardless of fertility issues! Xx

Hi everyone

20% & Syd43 - gutted for you :(

Yesterday I finished the meds for my long protocol treatment.

Tomorrow is egg collection. I am stressing over stuff like: what if I've already ovulated by tomorrow? what if I am developing thrush today? (have put on canesten now!)

Nil by mouth from midnight tonight - that'll be a long morning as the op is at 11!

p.s. CoQ10 - do it!!
p.p.s. I used to have a high AMH in the 30s, and was told it was because I was polycistic and hence was monitored for OHSS. AMH just 3 years later is under 10 :(
p.p.p.s. Did I mention it's definitely worth taking high dose CoQ10???!

Hi ladies, just passing by

Sorry to for the news MrsBass, 20percent, Syd xx
Good luck to the ladiesa about to start their cycles! Tinselcat, how did you collection go?

Finally had a call today to say our funding has been approved! Feels more real now. Just waiting to be vetted by the fertility clinic so hope to have our first official appointment in a few weeks time

Hi Tinselcat, whats the deal with CoQ10? I've not heard of that one - what makes you so keen on it, what does it do - I'm toying with adding yet ANOTHER tablet to my daily cocktail - I'm going to start rattling soon! haha... ps how to egg collection go!?? x

Sending well wishes to everyone Those recovering from disappointments and those about to get started!

Coq10 is fab. I have ridiculously low AMH for my age and yet responded very well to IVF both times. The Coq10 is supposed to help the health of the eggs and people say it has an anti-aging quality on eggs. When I took it, my skin, nails and hair improved massively. My thinking was that I could see what it was changing from the outside and was sure it was helping on the inside. I found with some cheaper brands that the results weren't as good.
You do need a high dose for it to do anything. I took Solgar Coq10 400mg, I took 2 a day, its best to take them apart, so one in morning and one in the evening xx

Hi all,

Just back from our appointment at the clinic. I had a bleed last Tuesday and my womb lining is nice and thin, I have 3-4 little follicles on each side right now. Got all my meds to take away and start tomorrow. I'm on gonal F 225, twice a day for first two days then morning only after that. I'm back next Friday for a scan then start nasal spray the following day! Feeling quite nervous about tomorrow but it all seems straight forward!

Hope EC went well tinselcat, good luck for transfer when it comes. I take coq10 but only 100mg, looks like I might need to up it to make a difference!

That's great mrslaw, I hope things move quickly for you now!

How is everyone else getting on? Xx

Wow, things are moving now. Wishing you the best of luck xx

Thank you lisey, it's all suddenly went very quickly!

I was up half the night worrying about the injection. It took me about 10 minutes of hovering around my stomach with the needle before I just done it, totally ridiculous because it was absolutely fine, I barely felt a thing! Only issue was I can't see my own stomach I have such big boobs so my hubby had to hold them out the way so I could see what I was doing

I forgot to ask yesterday at the appointment when I'm doing the injections twice a day do they need to be like a certain amount of time apart? And when I do them daily do they need to be at the same time each morning? I can't get through to them and I'm worrying a bit because I do shift work. Do any of you ladies know? Xx

I don't know how far apart the injections should be but you do need to do them at the same time each day (give or take 30 mins).

Good news on the funding MrsLaw.

Tinselcat, how did egg collection go?

I was on ubiquinol for months (the more easily digested form of coq10 and better for the over 40s) but sadly don't feel it did anything for me. I'm trying dhea now.

Hope everyone else is well.

Hi ladies!

Fingers crossed for everyone on their cycles now! :)

Well, this is it....3rd and final cycle begins tomorrow. If I'm honest I'm not expecting things to improve from the last 2cycles.....had a very uplifting chat with my clinic where he told me he really doesn't hold out much hope and puts my chances of even getting a decent egg at less than 5%....so that's helped me get into a positive frame of mind :lol:

Need to change my user name! ;)

Tinselcat, u r keeping us all in suspense!!!!!! I really really hope it all went well for u luvvie! Xx

I would imagine it's 12 hours apart but ask as I really don't know. They do have to be done around the same time though. Like Syd says, half hour difference might be ok but wouldn't risk more than that.

I was the same with first injection, kept hovering and fussing but is fine once done. You will be a pro soon :) xx

Thanks ladies. I got hold of the clinic and she said as long as it's within an hour of the 12 hour apart mark it's fine. The nurse said down the line I'll be on different drugs that are a lot stricter with time but they'll tell me when that happens. She said I've to carry on life as normal so I feel better now!

Really hope I feel like a pro soon

20percent wishing you lots of luck. I hope it's third time lucky for you despite what the consultant is saying! Xx

Thanks for the good wishes everyone!

Posting on condition that nobody says stuff like "you're not out until AF is here" etc etc, as in LTTTC that is correlated with a 99.9% chance of failure in my (sadly, years of) experience! (and at least 90% failure in TTC)

On Monday I was optimistic as I had had 13 eggs collected and the growth of the eggs had been way way better than anything I'd ever had before. Hence me being excited about the CoQ10.

Unfortunately, the next day I found out that only 4 of those 13 eggs were mature, which is pretty poor ratio really.
Additionally, the donor stuff (despite me paying a ridiculous amount for what was supposed to be really high quality) was much less motile than it should have been, so I had to go to ICSI. Which adds another £1000+ to the whole thing :(

Of the 4 eggs, 3 fertilised.

Today I had 2 of those embryos transferred. They were both 8 cells, one grade 2, the other grade 3, on a scale of 1-4.
There is a 4-cell embryo left but it was of poor quality so I expect it won't make it.

Test day 5 April.

I'm coming down with a cold (have been feeling ill since Sunday afternoon with sore throat that just hasn't gone away) so not the happiest bunny in town.

20% - good luck with your cycle hun! Third time lucky xxx

This might sound silly and an over reaction but I've had a tender stomach today when my trousers have rubbed or I've bent over. I just came up the stairs to do my injection and felt my tummy, just under my belly button to the left I have a large lump and it's tender to touch. It isn't where I done my injection this morning. The position of it is where I had my prostap injection 2 weeks ago but I think that could be coincidence, why would something happen after 2 weeks? I'm trying not to cry as silly as that sounds. It just doesn't feel right and it definitely hasn't been there before. Anyone any idea before I convince myself this isn't normal and become majorly worried? :( x
