Ladies doing IUI or IVF - 2016 (11 BFPs so far!)

Good luck syd.

Update from me, the dr accepted me onto the ivf waiting list. My bmi was 30.4. I was a bit peeved because I've been gong to the gym and literally eating nothing for a month only for them to include my clothes in their bmi calculator. If he'd have knocked off 1kg I would have had a bmi of just under 30.

Anyway, we go back in July for the first phase but they said I should aim to get my bmi to 28, which means I have to loose a stone (6.5kg). It's been really tough loosing the weight so far. 'My body holds onto fat like something crazy. Also DH has to prove he doesn't smoke anymore so he has to join a smoking sessation service. When we go back in July, he has to provide a letter with a test and my bmi has to go down. I'm surprised they didn't do a carbon monoxide test on him at the clinic. . Anyway, glad they accepted me.

Would vaping help him quit? It helped my OH and he loved smoking so much! I never thought he would be able to quit but been over 2 years now.
In regards to losing weight, have you tried lower carb diet? I did it and worked amazingly. I was advised that out of the day I should have the most carbs in the morning, then a little less for lunch and the least for dinner. I would only have 'good' carbs so sweet potatoes, brown rice, wholemeal bread etc. Basically no white carbs. It was really quite easy. I wasnt considered overweight soni thought it would be hard to get weight off, i wanted to tone more than anything. I lost over a stone. Had loads of protein and ate more on that than I did with any other diet and the weight came off. Also did daily HIIT workouts xx

Morning ladies.

The clinic have called to say I've got 3 that are doing exactly what they should be at this stage, so 8 cells and either graded 4 4 or 3 3 - I know not all clinics have the same grading system, apparently at Oxford on day 3 the best grade is 4 4 then 3 3 (presumably 4 3 or 3 4 is actually the second best but now I'm complicating things...). One that is the right cell number but is looking a bit vacuolated (not entirely sure what that means) so they'll keep an eye on that one, and another that is the right number of cells but looking a bit irregular, they're not sure at this stage if that's just because it's in between stages or not. The other 3 are very irregular. We're therefore going for a 5 day transfer on Wednesday. Praying that at least the 3 good ones keep going strong, anything else on top of that would be a huge bonus. I would love to have one or two to transfer and one or two to freeze.

Great news Syd, lots of best wishes for transfer tomorrow xxx

Good luck syd.

Two things that helped me, I joined Slimming World which really helped me, though I also cut out all wheat products (bread, wheat cereals and pasta). Also if you have good willpower for a week I have done the 7day Jason Vale Juice diet and it really works I lost 11 lbs in a week and kept it off. Lots of luck x

I was really worried about bmi, I was teetering on 29.5 but they literally just took my word for it when I wrote it on the form and never weighed me, which is just as well as I would have had to strip down to my bra and knickers to get to that level! Is your OH feeling motivated to give up smoking? Very hard otherwise... My OH is a fairly heavy smoker but they didn't query this at all, I'm assuming this is because we were self funding rather than NHS?

I agree that cutting down on carbs really helps, when I'm being good I don't have any carbs in the evening, just meat or fish and veg.

Blimey Clementine, well done with the juice diet for 7 days, I struggle with 1 day!

Thanks for the best wishes ladies. I wish I could get a day 4 update from the clinic :)

We were private too but they said he should quit smoking. They said if we were NHS they wouldn't do IVF if anyone side smoked. He said they would advise to at least seriously cut down for them to consider going ahead with it privately. For us though, we had had 3 losses and the consultant said his smoking could have been a factor if had affected sperm. I doubt it did really but it got him to quit instantly (with the help of vaping) xx

I really wish he would quit, I absolutely hate it (I've never smoked) but he has no inclination to stop whatsoever. He's under such huge amounts of stress at the moment with work and also his ex I can't push it.

The more we push them the less likely they are to quit it seems. I asked my OH numerous times but I think it was the reality check of hearing it from the consultant that gave him the kick up the bum xx

I'm really worried about bmi too. I haven't been on a diet for almost 3 years and I know I'm heavier. I finally took the plunge and weighed myself for the first time in years and nearly died off. My bmi is 29.6, I'm the heaviest I've ever been. If they ask to weigh me tomorrow I'll be stripping naked. I haven't touched anything bad since seeing those numbers on the scale. I done low carb before and it did really work so I think I'll give that a try again to hopefully lose some weight quickly.

Feeling really nervous about tomorrow xx

You'll be fine, try not to be nervous. Try and focus on getting excited at being so much closer and a great opportunity to ask loads of questions.

This may sound a bit weird and apologies if I've mentioned it before but I'm doing the circle+bloom ivf meditations each night. I've also recorded the ivf meditation from one of my books and I can honestly say I've welcomed every step of the process even down to getting excited about and looking forward to the injections because they're bringing me closer. Before I started I felt really down about the fact we're having to go this route but it all changed once I started. Whether it works or not, at least I haven't found the process stressful.

Very best of luck tomorrow, make sure you report back :)

Do you really think it's helped syd? Stupid question but what do you do? This sounds like something I could really do with to calm my nerves and help me welcome every part of this rather than fear it.

Thanks hun I will do. It's not till 5pm so got the day to stew! Xx

I really do. You download it (think it costs around us$70) there are different meditations for each part of the cycle and you listen once a day, I listen when I go to bed. They last 15-20 minutes and it's just relaxation and visualisation. It's very relaxing, I'm a dreadful insomniac and I'm always drifting off by the end.

Hi Syd bucket loads of baby bean dust for tomorrow :dust:

Can't believe I'm doing this but I rang one of the IVF clinics in Dublin today to discuss options I've registered for a Fertility Presentation this Sunday, bar me & my hubby (& PF) we're not saying it to friends or family, I'll go Sunday and see what they say, they have said that they would let me use my own eggs if all my bloods were ok even though I'm 45 - I didn't really like the nurse I spoke to as she treated me as if I was 12 and that I had no clue about fertility and older women (I really felt like saying i could write a book on it after the last 5 years and that I was more than aware that the stats are not in our favour). This clinic doesn't offer genetic testing on the embryos before transfer as they're note registered. I'm also ringing a 2nd clinic tomorrow that does offer it to see if they accept people if 45.

Oh goodness I'm so excited for you Clementine! I'm really pleased you're doing that.

If you're looking at clinics have you considered Serum? Is going abroad an option? I hear such amazing things about them.

Please let us know how it goes this weekend.

And yes, I just love that condescending tone some people take. Really, it's going to be difficult at my age? Gosh, I hadn't realised that, I just woke up this morning and thought "I know what I'll do today..."

Thanks Syd I'm self employed so I can't go abroad as I'm very limited on taking time off at short notice, I don't have someone to cover for me and I'm booked 6mths in advance for weddings, so hopefully I could work around existing bookings.

Thanks ladies.
DH has given up for over a month but he has to get an official tests from one of the stop smoking services. As for my weight, I do pretty much low carb everyday but one one or two restaurant visits puts me back 8 steps. I've gotten into a routine now so I'm less inclined to go to restaurants or have a take away and I'm cooking more. I just get frustrated at how slow the weight loss is.

Trying to catch up..
Good luck with the new job, Lou
Good luck with the egg transfer Syd! You only need one good one! :)

I was all set to start the long protocol on my next cycle but then my employer sent a "save the date" email for a meeting abroad in mid-March. I checked the date and it basically overlaps with when I'd be doing egg collection/transfer. Kinda pissed off.

I spoke with the clinic who said they could start me on the meds next week & bring it forward to this cycle but I'm not in the right place physically/mentally/financially right now (I have to get a mortgage in a couple of months), so I am deferring the whole process for yet another cycle. Boo.

Good luck for egg transfer today Syd :D

Hope your appointment goes well today too, MrsS!

Tinselcat, sorry to hear that :( it's so annoying when life gets in the way :(
I know we can't start again until late March/early April because there is just too much going on... late last year my parents booked a 2 week cruise for March and I agreed to dog sit. It would be fine if they didn't live 5 hours away!
