How are all you new mummies doing?

Kaedin you may well be better off not working now that your not with your OH especially if your forking out for childcare

I really don't know what benefits I would be entitled to as a single mum? Would it just be child tax credits and child benefit ? I'm so clueless with this sort of stuff :wall2:

If your not working you can apply for income support as a lone parent x

Also housing benefit if you got somewhere you were Renting and council tax benifit. Mind you we have a combined income of 12k and not entitled to either of those bur we do get quite a bit if help in the working tax credit and child tax credit department.

Oh and worksmart website is good for working out tax

Ah so would I only be able to apply to that if I know for sure I won't go back to work after my maternity leave? Or do I need to go back to work for a set time before I'm able to just leave and be a full time parent?

I would be able to put my name down for a council house, but might have to wait a while. Before maternity leave I work 42.5 hours a week for minimum wage, so that's what they might make me go back to. I did request my old 25 hours contract, but even then I just don't think it's worth it as I'll end up paying more to a nursery than I earn I think

Kaedin You would get child tax credits roughly £250 per month, child benefit £80 p/m, income support
£280 p/m, and housing benefit £370 pm as a single parent, plus most of your council tax paid for x

You can private rent and still claim hosing benefit if you don't want to wait for council house, if your at your parents you won't be top of the list and could be waiting a long time x

Hello,

Not been here for months but just wondering how are you getting in sleep wise for your babies? Mine used to sleep through but for the last 3 weeks she wakes every 4 hours lol settles after her bottle, but seriously my first never did this lol

We
Are going to earn 12k a yar and we get £347 a month in tax credits and £82 a month child benifit, (not entitled to council tax benefit or housing allowance) but bear in mind with tax credits you have to work over 30 hours (although that may be different if you're a single mum)

Feeling super proud. Isabelle has woken twice so far this evening, but both times she has self settled back to sleep without me taking her out of her crib! I'm not going to get my hopes up too much, but at least we now know she can do it :-)

Yeh there's working tax credits (when your working) and child tax credits (when not working) I think that's how it goes.

Do I need to go back to work for a set amount of time since im on statutory maternity pay or can I just contact hmrc in due course to say im not going to work?

Yay go Isabelle!! Hoepfully it'll just become a habit soon.

All this talk of back to work seriously upsets me. Hubby has applied for a new job at his work which would mean him working mon-fri rather than shifts. Means S will have to have 2 days at nursery and 2 days with MIL - money is gonna be so tight :-( shift work is best for childcare but rubbish for our relationship. I hate being an adult!! Wouldn't trade it for my baby tho.

Would just be easier if we were all millionaires so didn't have to worry about childcare costs, working long hours and missing time with our babies!! Hope your husband gets the new job, least you & S will see more of him

One of the reasons im tryimg to just work 3 days a week is thst ill come in snd hubby will go out and we wont get any time until 10pm together but it means we wont need nursery

Thomas had abit of a blip a while ago when he got a cold and it took a couple of weeks to sort his sleep back out, but he regularly sleeps through now. Last night we were away and he was in his travel cot and he slept 9.30 till 9 (I had to wake him for breakfast otherwise he would have slept longer). He doesn't wake for night feeds anymore

If your only getting smp from work you can hand in your notice to work anytime you like, you don't need to go back at all and you can claim income support as soon as you are no longer employed x

Losing my mind!!

Went into Luke's room to settle him - soothed him, have him his comfort blanky and put on his lullaby then went to put his dummy in... Cpuld I find it?! I looked around the edges of he cot, I looked between the bars, I patted him down, I picked him up to look über him and even on the floor, pulled the cot out! Vanished!

So I went down to get his spare one... I come back up and there is is! Plain as day on the cot and Luke with a smile on his face! What the holy hell?? I looked everywhere!
