How are all you new mummies doing?

Emma has a minky blanket thing, and will only go to sleep now with it completely over her face. We didn't bring the monitor on holiday, so it's freaking me out. Chris got up to her last night and gave it back to her. I looked over a bit later and it was over her face. Jumped up so quick!

Do you all remember how Emma went through a few days about a month ago when the older kids taught her to scream/squeal?? Week it's flipping back! Had to eat our all you can eat buffet in record time tonight cause people were staring. She just sat in her highchair screaming then laughing! Soooo embarrassing :-/

Thanks jojo! Have you seen that tesco has a big sale on weaning stuff. There's a good few bargains x

Put my fut down with my ex today. He text me at 11 this morning TELLING me he's picking Hayley up at 11 tomorrow and having her over night. I've told him no, too short notice. But now he's taking her on thursday after work over night...not exactly a win but at least i've shown him ill not let him walk over me. He must give me notice.

Mark put shit batteries in Luke's lights how and now they've ran out and Luke won't sleep without it for some reason. On screwed and he's screaming! Ringing mum to send her on an emergency Duracell mission

See I nearly made berry purée as had blueberries and strawberrys for me in fridge

But all the books and internet say even if weaning starts early to introduce berries at least 6 months ? Esp strawberries? so I didn't in the end and chickened out how did he get on? Are you freezing them? Banana isn't the best at freezing but I've been told adding a squirt of lemon juice helps x

Oh he banana freezes m fine. Luke is fine with berries but I'm not makingn blueberry purée again - it goes kinda grainy when you defrost it for some reason

I spoke to an allergy expert on the weekend (he's a professor at Leeds university and specialises in nut allergies). He said all this talk about introducing food at certain ages is actually rubbish and it's interaction with things that helps build a good immunity and resistance.

On that basis I'm not going to bother so much with the can and cants in these books.

Berries are one of the things they're most likely to have adverse reactions to, one of things to avoid til after 6mo x

I'm of this school of thought too. Every child has allergies nowadays it seems and i don't think it's any coincidence that bloomin nhs guidelines tell you to avoid anything that they haven't actually proven to be healthy yet! My nephew was brought up as per the official guidelines and he has allergies to all sorts and is generally a very unhealthy child yet she is very by the book. Bit of exposure to the world is how you build immunity in my eyes - just my opinion of course!! But I'll be taking the official advice quite loosely and using my instinct about it. Have been doing that since she's been born - before even! - and she's alright so far!

It's such a minefield I don't know what to do half the time! So many professionals have such different opinions

So far Oscar has tried and loves

Carrot
Broccoli
Pear
Apple
Sweet potatoe
Banana
Mango

Also he does really like baby rice with a fruit purée - have got him plain porridge to try now without gluten ( as Heinz had it in)

I have some butternut squash all done and ready to try aswell

Think I'll go with these for a few more weeks then start on things like sweetcorn, peas, courgette, cauliflower, spinach and drop in the likes of peach and other fresh fruits

Then that's a good base for him to start nursery on?

Baring In mind I have a nut alergy and we have lactose intolerance in our family quite abit I'm probably more cautious on that basis

The only thing my hv said to avoid was peanut based things as I have an allergy also nothing dried until a year as I'm allergic to those too... Didn't even mention about berries... Did say no citrus and no dairy though until 6 months and no honey until a year

Luke has had
Banana, peach, pear, apple, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry fruit wise
Veggies he's had carrot, parsnip, potato, broccoli, peas, sweet potato (not a fan!), turnip, pepper ant tomato
And meat wise he's has chicken, beef, lamb and turkey.

Only thing he doesn't seem to like is sweet potato and porridge type things and tomato seemed to give him gas

Apparently red meat isn't in babies diets enough - iron deficiency is the most popular infant malnutrition !

They are born with enough stores to last 6 months !

Amazing what you find out sometimes isn't it!

My HV said start with basics and always do savoury first then sweet as we are programmed to prefer sweet - and to avoid milk and gluten untill 6 months - no milk as drink untill a year along with honey and no nuts just incase - didn't mention berries but like I say that's me reading stuff and chickening out haha

I think there's just too much information out there now - they change he guidelines constNtly as they find things out so I generally think read all the info so you're aware and then do what feels right to you

Luke is having mince and potatoes on Sunday :) we'll see how that goes
