How are all you new mummies doing?

Oh no bex I really feel for you I've been quite lucky with moo but when they are ill u just want to take it away for them I hope he's better for Sunday. Can u manage if hubby stayed at home? How does he feel about it? Xxxx

I'm having a bit of a panic. Had another go at our finances and concluded that we can't really afford for me to not go back to work :-( But then I phoned the nursery and was told we are highly unlikely to be offered a place in time (despite being on waiting list since she was born). So now we have to either struggle to find a place at another nursery or find even more ways to save money. I'm worried I'm going to have to give up my car, which would mean we couldn't go anywhere when OH's at work :-(

It's tough maud :( I had oscars place secured and confirmed when he was born. :(

Could you maybe work evenings part time for a few pennies ??

Wow im shocked by the nursery situation. All of the nurseries around here have all had spaces available but then there are about 8 different ones to choose from and our town isn't that big

oh dear maud! hope you manage to get it sorted somehow. this makes me worry, as i don't have a nursery space booked as i don't even know when im going back to work, how many hours ill be doing or what shifts. Haven't heard from my work, sent an email the other day - but think i'll need to give them a call as i don't seem to be getting anywhere

There's a nursery in our home town but the opening hours aren't suitable. Other nurseries in the town we work (assuming we could get a place on such short notice) charge a lot more and would eat up nearly my entire net salary (the one we planned on is subsidised by OH's employer). I've looked into taking a job at a supermarket but it would be hard to match hours with OH. I'm going to have to find something though.

Poor oscar! Really hope he's feeling better tomorrow.

Hayley refused to nap today, despite me trying a good few times. Eventually she fell asleep at 4:30 (after a bottle) but got woken up by the door so she was then pretty grumpy. Refused bedtime bottle (which i expected) and didn't go to bed until 9:20 which really isn't like her.

Tried to get out swimming but just kept pushing it back, decided to wait til after her usual 10-10:30 nap, didn't happen so said i'd wait til after her lunch, after lunch she was grumpy as over tired so pushed it til after she had a nap, that never happened.. sometimes im constantly waiting for the next bottle or meal and end up going nowhere.

That's rough, really hope something comes up and everything slots into place for you

We secured our nursery place a few months back. I'm glad we did when we did because they only had 3 full days available.

Maud could you afford to extend your maternity leave a little longer in hope that a space becomes available? I think we were lucky due to the timing. Some children start nursery in jan around here so at this point kids were freeing up spaces

We could probably afford it, but I'm already taking the full 12 months plus accrued holiday so I would have to find a new job.

Would they definitely ask you to find another job? I know they're not obligated to keep your position but I think my company would?

I only worked there for 3 weeks before maternity leave so there's no relationship for them to want to maintain. Though as this also meant they didn't need to replace me with maternity cover I guess it wouldn't make any difference to them when I go back, but they're all about policy and procedure so they may say no as I'm not eligible for a career break under my contract (I already checked).

First night on weeks that Luke stopped in bed 6pm-8am. ( or whenever he got up as I was already at work when he got up) took a bit of willpower with he controlled crying but he did well I think.

Poor Oscar Bex. His immune system won't be so good after his stay in hospital. If I lived closer you could have dropped him to me. Have you got any friends off with their kids at the mo that could help you out till he's better?

Emma gets ill pretty much every Friday at nursery, I just keep telling myself it won't be like this forever. As they get older they cope with illness better too. Well colds and coughs at least.

Maud, you live near me don't you? I'm in Farnham. We've got nursery issues too. I had to take a Friday when I put Emma's name down when she was born as they didn't have anything else. Still waiting for any other days to come up. Ridiculous.

Right, better get back to my pressie wrapping. :-/

Aw Bex poor oscar! It's defo the nurseries. I've thought since the weekend that I'm going to try my hardest to have her in nursery as little as possible cos I'm sick of all these viruses and bugs. I know it's good for them and builds the immune system but not so many in a short space of time surely! Hugs for you both.

Maud hope you get a nursery space. It's quite a big decision so you don't want to have to make it based purely if they have a space.

Glad cc went well jojo. They are such naughty babies for sleep just now too!! I am desperate to stop S getting up in the night. After researching a bit yest I had a plan last night. S can go down herself fine in the day but 90% of the time at night she falls alseep after her last bottle so she's not learning to self settle in the night much. I gave her her bottle before her bath last night and she settled in about 10 mins after I put her down. When she woke in the night she went back to sleep about 30 mins later by herself so going to keep at it and hope for the best. I need sleep!!

After refusing sleep last night, hayley woke screaming at 3:30. She wouldn't go back into her cot so slept with me until 7:15 then we got up for breakfast bottle.

Had a good day as we went swimming, which hayley loves. :) Been trying to encourage hayley to spend time on her tummy and she's starting to push her bum up and tuck her knees under, but gets fed up on her tummy quickly.

Have you tries getting down on the floor with her and making faces at her? Luke loves that

Yeh I do that, put toys down infront of her, even the cat who she loves but she quickly gets fed up and cries.
