How are all you new mummies doing?

Thomas is 7.5kg right now but he's starting to really grow length ways so I don't think it will be that long before we need the next seat. We might get to 9 months.

Apparently on the whole it's boys that out grow first and a lot of girls make it to 12 months if not longer in their first seat.

Still can't decide. Need to do more research today. It's the whole I size European legislation that's thrown me

Maybe pop along to a few shops and get some advice ? Have a chat - see which ones you like etc?

It was from my employee not job centre technically I think I'm unemployed I think! Xxx

Tough one. SMP is the same rate for everyone because the employer claims it back so your ex-employer will have claimed it from the HMRC. At least that's how I understand it to work

Went foru meeting... Did to go wonderfully but I hear in 2 weeks time. I told them I think I'm being as flexible as I can and I'm
Open to discussions

Cute Bex, was the cath kidston one too small? Emma starts nursery Fri. Just 1 day a week.

Re car seats, lots of them are from 9 months, but the lady in babies r us was saying they must reach the weight limit. (Emma's already passed it!), but also need to be able to sit unaided for 30 minutes which is normally 12 months. That seems a bit odd to me, as what baby or child is ever gonna do that without a back support. Emma sits and plays for about 30 mins. But will often put her hands down to get a toy, or go forward on to her tummy for a bit. Then back to sitting.

I can't carry her about in the car seat anymore think I'll just leave the group 0 car seat in the car, and see how much longer we last.

You'd think the shops would help but I went into galfords the other day to see if they had either seat I'm looking at and I spoke to the 'car seat expert' and he knew less than me! Doesn't fill me with confidence that anyone else will know

I just rang a big mothercare store in weybridge and spoke to the car seat lady. It's a 35 min drive from me. Glad I rang as the seat I wanted to go see they sold the demonstrator!. She did suggest the Britax duo as an alternative though. So will go try that out I think.

Just found out both my cars have the top tether anchor points. Which means we can definitely go for isofix with the top tether rather than the big foot anchor. So will only need one carseat as easy to swap over. Finally getting somewhere.

Like this one. Britax trifix

Looks good Toria! Glad your getting somewhere! Sorry I can't help much more pumpkin :/ maybe just scour net at reviews and independant reviews of them ? I'll just keep Oscar in his group 0 untill he's
Outgrown it and move him on / if that's at 7 months or 11 - who knows

Got the bag off amazon for 14 quid delivered! All I found in local shops were crappy Disney ones or just Wernt baby-ish enough / the cath kidson one is TINY - way to small ! And the next size up was London bus prints which I didn't like - this will be ideal for Oscar whilst he's a baby :) I'm sure by the time he's 2 he will be wanting a new bag of some cartoon or skmethjng or other :)

Ah don't worry bex. When it comes I disowns like this I take my sweet time about it!

My solicitor phoned me yesterday as my ex got a solicitor who has written to her. Basically saying he wants hayley 3 days one week then 4 the next. And this will be a suitable routine. He also stated in the letter as he will be working some of these days, he and his mum will pay for childcare and put her into the nursery that his mum works at. Absolutely ridiculous! If Hayley can be with 1 parent why on earth would she go to nursery, im sitting at home on maternity leave and he wants her to go get looked after by someone else? Daft aswell, considering he's arguing about paying just £32 towards her, yet can afford nursery fees ?? No way im agreeing to that ridiculous suggestion. Have a first meeting tomorrow with a mediator, just me and a mediator to basically say what im looking to achieve and what not.

Took Hayley swimming today for the first time. I loved it, Hayley seemed more interested in chewing her fingers but she didn't cry at all so think she had fun. My dad even managed to take a few pics of us in the pool

He's a dick kaedin! I cannot say this any more. They're not going to allow hat kind of custody agreement. What did your solicitor say?

He really is a dick if he wanted her to look after fine but to the pit her in nursery is just stupid! Looks like u had fun swimming tho u overtaking Harry swimming.

Kaedin they won't allow her to go to nursery when your at home! It doesn't make sense

If he can pay for childcare he can pay maintenance

Stand your ground :)

Kaedin there's no way the courts would grant that much access when he's at work he's been ridiculous..

Bex I absolutely love Oscars bag!! :D

We've been to court today to fill out forms cos of his ex stopping contact etc.. Got myself a couple of pairs of jeans afterwards too, my autumn winter wardrobe is none existent :(

Alex didn't outgrow his first stage car seat until he was 18 months - he was 9lbs 4.5oz when he was born, and has always been on or around the 75th percentile, so not a little baby. Infant seats are by far the safest out there, so I would try and keep them in there until they've completely maxed it out - either by weight limit (most of them these days are 13kg, but there are a few with lower limit of 10kg) or by height (length of legs sticking out really doesn't matter, the rule is normally that they've outgrown the seat when the top of their head is level with the top of the seat - but again, there are some seats out there with different rules).

We have an Axkid Minikid which isn't isofix, but that means that it can rear face until 25kg. It's fixed using the seatbelt (really not tricky, even my parents can do it), and tethers which go to the runners (or other suitable tether point) of the seat in front. Attaching them is probably the trickiest bit, but you can buy spare sets of the tethers so that you don't have to move them each time you move the seat. You can also get seats that have both isofix and seatbelt installation so that you can use isofix until they reach 18kg and then only have to use the seatbelt after that. Also, not all seats necessarily fit in all cars (this is true of forward and rear facing seats) so you need to check which seats fit in your car or cars if you're going to be moving it about).

There is much more of a range (and the seats are cheaper) if you only want to rear face to 18kg - we didn't because our son is quite large, and I didn't want to have to turn him before he turns four if he had reached the weight limit.

When he gets to 25kg and outgrows his current car seat (which I really do hope won't be for at least another 3/4 years!) he'll be going into a high back booster (or normal booster if he outgrows a high backed booster) until he's at least ten years old because apparently a child's pelvis isn't wide enough to use an adult seat belt safely without a booster until then. Haven't really researched this bit much yet though, as he's only just turned two, so still have a while!

Did soooo much reading into all this when A was going up a seat (after hearing about ERF seats from somebody else on here - had never heard of them before), that I always feel like I ought to share all the stuff I've read in case it helps somebody else!

Do feel a bit like this though: :mervsmum: so I'll get off my soapbox now ;)

Haha jajis- it's all helpful I just can't decide which one lol. I know I want him to rear face in his next seat (when the time comes) for as long as possible I just don't know what to go for from a safety pov
