Ex chartstalkers pg or just taking a break!

hi again.

ROM - glad your MW appt went well yesterday! And yikes to 37 weeks...

Kmac - hope you're recovering quickly - that's a bit of an ordeal you've been put through! But it must all be worth it now.

Thanks everyone for your posts - much appreciated.

Firstly, I used the doppler last night and found the hb, so baby appears still to be ok.

Secondly I'm NOT having a scan today after all. I'm really peed off. The gynae last night phoned the EPU and was told that I was booked in, and that they would phone me with an appt time this morning. Come 10.15, I hadn't heard anything so phoned the EPU. They said they don't do appts, it's a walk-in clinic only. Now that's what I had thought and so got the gynae to check with the woman who answered the EPU phone last night. The EPU say they all went home at 4 so they couldn't have answered the phone. So who the f*** answered the EPU phone, took my name, hospital number, details, etc, and then what did they do with them? Where am I booked in?!

The EPU said I should have turned up at 9 this morning and waited, but if I turn up before 12 they'll see me. They also said they wouldn't do a scan, they'd do an internal exam and listen with a doppler. So I asked why if I'd been referred by a doctor for a scan, they'd refuse to do one, and they said if I'd been referred, they would, but I hadn't been... FFS! My notes from yesterday have been sent to whatever clown answered the EPU's phone last night... I asked how they would find out the cause of the bleeding from an internal and listening to the hb, and they said they wouldn't. Basically, they're not bothered about the cause, just about whether or not m/c is imminent.

So I can't be @rsed to go back to the hospital to sit there for another 5+ hours in a hot waiting room with fluorescent lights and no food or drink other than a crisp and coke machine (not even water!!!). They can't seem to do anything I can't do at home - hell, I can even check my own cervix, if it comes to that, thanks to Toni Weschler! Once I'm 16 weeks (a week on Monday) I'm past the EPU anyway and it's straight to obs&gynae - so I figure if the bleeding continues, I shall simply ask my doc to refer me to gynae the week after next. They do emergency appts, not walk-in clinics. I'm still having some bleeding, but I think it's old blood from yesterday. At least I have my doppler! Dh was going to stay at home and wait for the phone call too, so that he could take me to the hospital, but because we heard the hb last night I told him I'd be fine by myself - I'm so glad I told him that. But if we hadn't had the doppler, I'd be a nervous wreck by now, wondering if the baby was still alive.

I'm seriously rethinking about where I want to give birth! If they can screw it all up so badly at this stage, it really makes me wonder what will happen if things go wrong later on. I have very little confidence in that hospital at the moment.

Sorry for ranting, I'm just so cross about it all.

 First of all Kitty I am so pleased you found LO's heartbeat I bet that really helped

But OMG! the incompitence! :shakehead: Unfortunatly they are similar im my local EPU, make you wait hours on end and then you've hit jackpot if you actualy get scanned like someone told you

I can't stand either hospitals (one of the reasons I am trying for a homebirth again as it just stresses me out)

I agree would proberly be best until you are at 16 weeks when your care will no longer be at the EPU, but none the less they have a duty to reassure women and take care of you, something they seem to not actualy do very well

I am so happy I have a doppler too, after not getting a scan on monday (12 weeks scan) I would have been going out of my mind with worry.

I hope the bleeding stops soon

Babydust are you bfing? if so ignore your Hv shes totaly wrong! Bf babies feed on demand end of, what a fantastic weight! :cheer:

Your doing very well hun

Kitty what a nightmare - they sound just like our EPU - they can be so protective as if people make things up just to get a scan or appointment with them. I for one can think of many better ways of spending a couple of hours than sitting in a hospital!! I know it goes against the grain but have you thought of paying for a private scan - ours cost us about £50 and to be honest the standard of the equipment/images and the information that we were given was worth every penny.

I have had a photo of baby Kmac this morning - the problem is I dont know how to get photos off my phone onto the PC!! if anyone wants me to forward it to them then just PM me your number. He is absolutely gorgeous :D

I'm having a really off day today - Dave has to go to Kent once a week with his business and today is the day - for some reason I have got myself all in a flap.... I know I am being unreasonable but if I go into labour he could easily be 4-5 hours drive away and I got all upset - instead of him being understanding and reasoning with me he got all cross and said, quite rightly, that the world couldnt come to a standstill for the next couple of weeks - that just got up my back more and so now he has left and we arent talking :( I didnt sleep very well last night as the pressure down below was beyond so I am sure thats what is wrong with me - on top of that I have a candidate at interview for a really great job today (salary in excess of £60K) who has just had a fit at me as she cant find the door to the building!! She's in Manchester and I am in Shropshire - she has known about the interview for a week and its a strategic position - I cannot believe she is daft enough not to have gone before to suss it all out!! Oh well there's £9K of commission down the drain which is such a shame as she is usually a really great, calm and intellegent person!!!!

OK my pity party is over.

Love to you all

Hey ladies  hope your all keeping well  Cant stop but just wanted to post this picture on behalf of reallyoldmum of Kmac's baby (Kian Thomas)

untitled-2.jpg

Well done sweety :cheer: He's gorgeous

Oh my what a beautiful little boy! Kirsty, he is adorable, you must be so proud  :) Congratulations to you and your Mr.

 everyone.

Just wondered if anyone had heard from Sookie recently? Hope she is OK.

Kitty how is it going honey - hopefully it has all settled down now

I've just worked out that its only 292 hours till we pick up Han from Manchester airport :) We cant wait to see her.... so in my mind George has to arrive either this weekend, to give me time to get out of hospital and sorted so we all 3 can pick her up or wait until after she arrives...... Dave said last night he is convinced I am going to go a week on Monday at 2.00 pm  not sure why he thinks that - perhaps that fits in with his work schedule - dont like to point out to him that babies dont tend to stick to schedules :D For the first time today I woke up feeling excited - god within the next few weeks I'm going to be holding our baby :D :D :D

I cant believe how quick your pregnancy seems to have gone Jane, Im sure it doesnt feel that way for you! It will be brilliant to see little Georges face!

Do you think he will come early?

I havent heard from Sookie either, I hope she is just having a break from all the TTC and baby talk, and I hope that when she comes back she will have some good news! I miss our Sookie I do. :(

Aw Kians a little cutie.

Kitty so pleased that you found the heartbeat. Can't believe you had to go through that ordeal though. :shakehead: Not good. Do you have any other local hospitals you can go to? I don't even know what an EPU is, no one's told me anything about it.

ROM great news you'll have 2 of your babies under 1 roof soon! :cheer: Can't believe George is going to be making an appearance soon!! Tha's flown by. Hope you and Dave have made up.

Oooo yes babydust lots of pics please. I love babies that are chunky. Especially when they get a dimple in their knees. My friends baby is a skinny little thing very disappointing! I love squishing their thighs. I hope mine packs it on!!! More to cuddle. :cheer:

I agree with Tasha if he's bf and waking he's hungry, you've had 2 kids already you know what you're doing.

Quick update from Kirstie - her and Kian are coming home today!!!!   She is very excited and cant wait to get onto the forum :D

Great news kmac! :cheer:

Erm.... i have a confession. I - trudy - am 12 weeks pg and have bought a pair of maternity jeans and nearly cried they were so comfy!

I don't know where the bump came from! I don't look any bigger than when I put on weight last year but its so solid! Fat usually moves round the waistband. I feel so silly now ranting about my poor colleague. I'm not telling her though. :shhh:

I'm off to H&M, they had buy one get one free in the sale. £10 for 2 pairs of work trousers? Bargain! Oooo there's no stopping me now. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

woohoo, great news from kmac! Love the pic too. Kian doesn't look VERY newborn though - he looks like he's made himself quite at home already!

ROM, things are getting so exciting! I bet Hannah's hoping to be home for the birth though - so surely she won't mind who picks her up, if she can get home in time?!

No, there's been no sign of Sookie for a while, but she did say she was going to take a break for a bit. I'm sure she will come back when she's ready, but if you're not even ready to start trying again after a m/c it must be pretty difficult coming on here when Phase 1 are having their babies and Phase 2 are all around the 12-14w mark when lots seems to be happening. For the past few weeks we've not talked about anything other than babies/pregnancy (which is fine, this is a pregnancy forum and why we're all here) but we used to have a fair bit of general chat too. Obviously we've all been distracted recently. In fact, it's lucky we've got Loola to remind us that there was life before pregnancy and there will be again afterwards - I am very much looking forward to Loola being pg just so that I can come on here and post about how many parties I've been to, how I stayed up all night 3 nights in a row, and how many empty bottles are stacked in the kitchen! (I'm ignoring the fact they'll be christening/1st b'day parties, I'll not have been up voluntarily, and the empties will be feeding bottles...). I know Loola can't wait to start TTCing again but in the meantime I'm living vicariously through her, it's my only distraction!

Babydust - I know nothing about babies, so I assumed that Zak's weight was good. I'd do whatever I felt was right. The HV isn't the one being woken in the middle of the night by a screaming baby. By the way, did you stick with Zak in the end, then?! We never did hear what his name was going to be!

Trudy - the EPU is the Early Pregnancy Unit, sometimes also Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit or Centre. They're the people who see you in first trimester - only for some reason at my local hospital the cut-off is 16 weeks rather than 12. Most places, once you have the 12w scan you're no longer 'early pregnancy'. Anyway, it's a real pain. They have clinics, not appt lists, and it's first come first served. So the issue is that you have a 15w pregnant woman with a sudden problem - say bleeding or pain - next to three women whose periods have just turned up 3 days late and have been sent to find out if it's a chem pg/ectopic, etc. I'm not saying that the other women shouldn't be seen, far from it, but that the system doesn't really cope with both kinds at once. Put it this way, most of the women in the EPU are miscarrying and are visibly upset. If you're 14 or 15 weeks pg, it's really not a great place to wait for 3 hours. Likewise, if you're 4 or 5 weeks pg and you're losing the baby, it's bloody hard to sit next to someone who's obviously 2nd tri, especially if they know the baby is alive, but they're trying to find out what's causing the bleeding/pain. That's why most EPUs are for early pregnancy, i.e. first tri.

Well, I have had no further bleeding at all (touch wood). It's really weird. I was expecting the same as before - basically to have period-like bleeding for the next few weeks again. I also got the letter re Down's testing today. Taking into account age, foetus size, NT measurement and the two blood tests, the risk at term is now low at 1 in 850. That sounds an ok risk to me. And I am very glad that we are not faced with the dilemma of being offered amniocentesis! We had already decided we wouldn't go for it as we wouldn't consider termination, but then you start thinking, 'what if the risk comes back as 1 in 5? wouldn't we rather prepare ourselves?'.
Did you guys get the blood testing done too, or did you just have NT measurements? Or nothing?

Tasha - I meant to ask, how come you didn't get a 12w scan? Do you not get an NT scan at all then?

It's so confusing, the way things are so different across the country.

I'm saying nothing at all, Mrs Pot!

Kitty we have to pay for your NT scan here in Shropshire even when you are as old as me  Your figure is great - its nice to see it written down isnt it :D I'm so glad that things are settling for you - believe me the next couple of months will fly by - I cant believe how quickly it has gone, having said that with all my problems last year in some ways I feel like I have been pregnant for 2 years!! :)

Trudy :rotfl: maternity bottoms are the way forward - I have several pairs of different types - only have a couple of maternity tops though - I have stuck to bigger normal ones - in fact I have just done a load of ironing and have been decided what to pack into my bag to come home in :) now thats wishful thinking :)

I know Han wont mind either way or who picks her up and I obviously have too much time on my hands to be planning it :) but I have missed her so much this time - Tunisia seems farther away than Greece but in reality its about the same - she hasnt been in contact so much this time either since she met her new man :D Not sure how she will cope without him for 10 weeks :D God help my phone bill.......

Good point Kitty - what did you decide on the baby's name Claire?

I read your last post and thought yippee I've got away with it! Damn!

no chance! I just couldn't be bothered to go back, edit and resubmit. You posted as I was writing! (as so often happens with me... hmmmm  )

Funny isn't it how you can get so lucky with one aspect, and so unlucky with another?! I know what you mean about the pregnancy thing. Well, since my LMP was 11 June, I really do feel like I have been pregnant for 7 months. On the other hand, I have had fewer than 30 days with no bleeding/spotting since July. The average non-pregnant woman would have had just 30 days of bleeding in those 6 months (6 months x 5-day periods).

I ordered some mat jeans from the Next sale, think they're due to arrive next week. I'm still fine in my usual ones though - finally they're staying up without a belt!! The sales have been great - I went into Monsoon last week and bought a skirt (elasticated waist), a dress (empire line) and a couple of loose tops in a size 10, and they're perfect. Comfy at the moment, and with plenty of room to grow, thanks to the style. So Trudy - as ROM says, don't rule out normal clothes in a larger size, especially as you'll be able to wear them after the birth too!.

Ooooh - I did order a couple of dresses from the JoJoMamanBebe sale. Here's one: http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/deta...9~0010BRN00023~0020CAT00183&treecode=TRE00009 (does anyone know how to do proper links???) and here's the other: http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/deta...9~0010BRN00023~0030CAT00184&treecode=TRE00009

The first is a lot prettier IRL - it looks quite beige in the photo, but it has pink flowers against a crinkled cream silk background (also touches of green and yellow). They arrived yesterday and I'm quite excited! I can't wait to be big enough to wear them!!!! I was wondering about saving the purple/blue one for my brother's wedding in June - it is absolutely gorgeous - but I'm not sure I'll be able to wait till then. Also, it was only £29 in the sale, and I don't know if it's a bit cheap to wear something like that to your brother's wedding? On the other hand, I don't really see the point in spending £200 on a maternity dress I like less and this dress really is nice. But I did promise my mother she could come maternity clothes shopping with me... AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!

Forgot to say, my parents are arriving for the weekend tomorrow so I won't be on much. They're helping to move furniture around and my mother has offered to help plan the nursery - oooh yippeeee - she said she'd make curtains for it.

by the way, as well as baby pics, aren't we due some belly pics? How did Kmac and co get away without the last-minute belly shot? ROM - we need a photo of your belly NOW, before it's too late!

 How scary for you Babydust! I hope hes ok.

As for the feeding all the time, yep that sounds about right  greedy little things

Kitty I didn't get a scan because apprently when I had one at 9 weeks 4/5 days they were able to measure the fetus accuratly, when they are over so many mm then they wont scan you (until 20 week) but she failed to tell me that when I was there at the nine week scan :|

She asked me to lay down and everything then " you wont be getting a scan today"

She was quite rude too, I felt like crying

My 20 weeks scan will be at 21 weeks ish and that will be in March so ages away!

Trudy your secret is safe with us :shhh: ( so comfy though arnt they? )

Well im going for a house veiwing later, we need to move too far away from OHs parents and I feel isolated and fed up!

So will be back later!

 Hope everyone else is ok
