I am interested on the advice about weaning... Logan has never slept through and has now gone back to feeding every hour - am sure it is a growth spurt but at this rate we will be trying baby rice sooner than 4 months!

What do I do though? put some on his tongue or something? how will he start to take it? and once started do you have to give it at the sime time every day?

Sorry to hijack the thread ( maybe I should start a new one! lol)

Hiya

There are loads of threads on weaning in the Feeding and Nutrition section. here's one

Just wanted to say, i couldnt give a toss about what people say how i feed my babies, i will feed them the way i want to and i sometimes wish i had tried to breast feed Alastair but i didnt. They are your babies so why worry about what other people say, who cares what people think of how u feed ur kid!!!! I could go on and on about how much it makes me angry when i see people fighting about how they feed their kid, and which way is better, at the end of the day who cares what other people think

Both ways are good

Hi, I am going to go back to the original post soon and my bug bear is people asking when I am going to feed Leorah solids! FFS she isn't 6 months yet, was 3 weeks early, has protein intolerances, sleeps through the night, is above average in length and is piling on weight!! I have absolutely no idea when she will be on solids because I have taken the decision that it will be when she shows me she is ready and then we will do baby lead weaning. I don't even care if she gets to 9 months and is still not eating as long as she is happy and growing properly then I will be happy and wont stress. Sorry for my rant but there is one woman at my baby group in particular with a baby 10 days older than Leorah that asks me very week so in the end I told her she will not be on baby rice as they have milk powder and she went out of the way to find one that doesn't :wall: I don't have an opinion on how she feeds her baby so why is she so concerned how I feed mine?? Leorah does already occassionally gum cold fruit when she's teething so I know she is capable of eating solids if she wants but why the hurry, she has the rest of her life to eat solid food but hopefully my boobs can be out of business by the time she's a year

Katt that women sounds like a right div  Id tell her were to go.
Yes all babies are different when it comes to needing weaning, my mum said I wasnt weaned until 7 months and that was the time when docs recomended 4 months for weaning, so she was looked down on.

Going unpto 9 months breastfeeding is great ! I hope to get that far with Olivia but its all upto her, im just going to let her wean herself off me, lol hoping she will do it before 1

To me theres nothing more special than nurturing Olivia its an amazing experience and I feel I have a wonderfull bond with her, I think now im just going to let it all go in one ear and out the other and just roll my eyes at them.

Can I point out one thing regarding formula feeders, it isnt advertised when have you ever seen sma gold etc advertised, its only the follow on milks that are advertised. The law doesnt allow formulas to be advertised as they want to encourage breastfeeding up to 6 months from there on the follow on adverts are allowed.

But when you tried breastfeeding and failed why shouldnt you be able to see what the choices are? I went with SMA Gold because it was the first one the MW suggested. I didnt have a clue!

Oh and its obviously not encouraged to buy formula at boots as you dont get advantage card points :rotfl:

I know Michelle I was gutted only shop there to get my points - I think if I am correct shops are not allowed to award points for it. they do give points for follow on milk though :cheer:

do you really not get advantage points for formula at boots?

mind you its the same with prescriptions and condoms i think.

condoms? Really? Oh wonder why - I would have thought they would have been encouraging people to buy them - can understand about perscriptions though.

don't quote me on the condoms but i know its a fact with the prescriptions.

wouldn't surprise me on condoms - get ours from Tesco. Hubby won't buy any because he is a big girls blouse so I have to get them when I do Tesco home shopping thing. Too afraid to go out and get themselve because I live where I teach and I know I will bump into some kid I teach with my bumper size pack at top of trolley. Just thinking about it makes me    Same with tampons.

I get condoms from Tescos

I get points for breastpads, and most baby products :) with boots, I love boots its my fav shop :)

if we get condoms we get them from family planning clinic as they are free! not that we have used any since mid 2005!!

Just seen this thread and read through it with interest...
The thing i love about this forum is it is so supportive in people choices of doing things...i don't think i have read a thread yet where someone has been judged...i logged onto another forum where breastfeeding mums were attacking bottle feeding mums in the most derogatory way imaginable so i swiftly left and never returned.

Alfie was breast feed for the first 7 days and i must admit i found it the most painful dreading thing i have had to do (apart from giving birth  ) My nipples were bleeding and blistered and i started to resent him going on the boob when he was hungry...i didn't want to feel like this and after expressing for a further week or so i eventually put him on the bottle.
DH was very pro breastfeeding before we had Alfie so i felt a lot of pressure from him as well.

I really admire ladies who can breastfeed as i know how hard it can be. And i still think it is the most beautiful sight...how people recoil at the sight of a breastfeeding mum i don't know...it's very small minded.

I don't regret switching to bottle...i have seen how Alfie has grown and flourished and he is just perfect (for me).
By the way i have twice had people shout remarks at me for publicly bottle feeding but i always give as good as i get as i feel no one has the right to interfere with someone methods of feeding their baby. I'm afraid it goes both ways...as someone else mentioned you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Hi

Back to the original post you will always get nasty posts from people but dont let it get you down just ignore them and get on with it you do what you feel is best and thats all that matters :)
Katrina

Pip that is disgraceful I cant believe that people would be that nasty - probably why i choose to come on this forum :cheer:

I believe that some people think bottlefeeding is the 'easy' choice. But as witnessed from comments on here a lot of people try very hard before switiching to bottle feeding. and really want to breast feed.

Mother nature lets people down sometimes and I am sure that some people still believe that people who bottlefeed do so because they cant be bothered to go through some hard times. When in reality they just may not be able to. Not meaning to rant and don't want to dredge subject back up. Just can't believe what Pip has said about another forum.
