The Gestational Diabetes support thread

At my last scan, which was a couple of weeks ago now, he was 5lb 12oz. Got another scan on Monday, so we shall see what the final estimate is :D

And you are right Jaxx, I don't think they are wholly accurate. I think my SIL was told her baby would be quite big, but she was only 7lb 1oz when she was born!

Another 10.3 after breakfast reading even with 10 units of novorapid, need to ring the diabetic midwives soon bah x

Oh dear LYLLJT! That is a smidge high. Can I ask what you had?

Shredded wheat with skimmed milk, it was 12.2 the other day after 2 seeded bread toast, it's daft. Doesn't seem to matter what I eat my breakfast readings are stupid :( She did say that on the phone actually that my diet wouldn't matter my pancreas isn't dealing with the hormones well,

They have increased my background insulin to 12 units now and my breakfast insulin to 12 too, and if it's no better by Monday I have to increase that again to 14 units. I have a scan Monday afternoon, I think she is massive she just feels really heavy in my tummy this last two weeks x

How are you getting on hun? Xxx

Honestly, the only thing I can have for breakfast is 1 slice of granary toast. And thats even with 8 units of novorapid beforehand! Fingers crossed they can figure it out for you though :) Let us know how you get on on Monday! I have a scan Monday too. Thats the only good thing about GD, you get to see lo more often :)

I'm doing alright. The odd slip up here and there. But this week has been alright, considering I moved house on Tuesday! xx

My lunch and tea readings are doing really well in all honesty, it's just the over nights and breakfast that are sending me daft, and hypos are shite!

Really glad you're doing well considdering moving house as well! They are the ones who told me to eat that for breakfast lol, porridge with water does the same, readings are just going mad x have you had many hypos? X

Looking forward to your update on Monday :D xxx

I'm the same, tbh! Lunch and dinner tends to be ok, other than when I'm naughty :-\ But I do try to compensate with novorapid where I know I'm likely to be in a situation where avoiding bad foods is difficult.

Omg, porridge is EVIL! As are bran flakes! Both of which send me loopy! I am just hoping it will all be over in a few weeks. I just want to be able to go back to having something other than a single slice of toast for breakfast!! The thing that my midwife suggested to me for breakfast was to have toast or something for breakfast, but to make sure you have protein with it? Like scrambled egg on toast, or a bit of bacon with the fat cut off, as it means you break down the carbs better? Maybe give that a go, if you haven't already tried it.

Hypos are where your readings are really low, right? I've not had a single hypo! I felt a bit funny once, but I don't think it was a hypo?

I should be getting my induction date on Monday, so I am mega excited :D xx

How's everyone doing?

PP, hope you're feeling better hun. OP, good luck with your appointment tomorrow, it's exciting to get your induction date, keep us posted!

I'm slowly getting used to the new diet and what works what doesn't. I've been finding brekkie hard too LY. My porridge readings were too close to 7.8 so I've tried a couple of other things & had better readings. Might be worth having something high in protein after your weetabix hun to see if that helps. Ive been adding nuts & seeds to things which seem to help. Maybe a handful of walnuts after would help lower your bs a bit more? I'm new to all this so just thought I'd share what ive learnt so far!

I cooked a curry recipe the other night which was fab & got a reading of 5.9, couldn't believe it! Thought I'd share the recipe as its really yummy. I just had a small portion of brown basmati rice with it:

Only downside to all this is I've been trying to do a 20 min walk after meals & I have spd, so it's the worst thing I can do for my pelvis but benefits my bs's! I can hardly walk I'm in that much pain. So frustrated that I can't exercise to help things. Got hardly any sleep last night because my hips were so painful :(

Sorry for the moan. Looking forward to getting my body back once the little ones here safely.

Have a good weekend girls xx

Just popping back on to say hello - and that theres light at the end of the tunnel! I had my little girl by c-section on tuesday and although its taken a few days it seems my sugar levels are going back to normal, and my spd - such a huge relief i cant tell you as i was in absolutel agony!

I cant believe im not pregnant anymore, even with the amount of pain i was in and the gd its only now i really realise how much of a miracle it truely it - try and enjoy your last few weeks!

Aw so pleased for you Daisy! Congratulations hun, what's your little girl called?

It's reassuring to hear the GD & spd have gone, I've got both too and finding it pretty unbearable at the mo! xx

Congrats Daisy :D It's good to know that it can all go back to normal so quickly!

Thank you! Baby is called Eva Holly, wasnt decided until she was actually here, second time round is so much harder!!

I really feel for you with the spd, it is absolutely horrendous - nobody in the health profession listened to me - i started saying at 16wks i had it and was fobbed off with all sorts of reasons for it. Go to your gp and tell them you want some crutches (if you havent already) at least if you just use them at home itll take the weight off. I was practically housebound with mine x

Congratulations Daisy!! Glad your levels are getting back to normal :) hope you're enjoying your new little bundle.

I am feeling a bit better, thanks girls. Get waves of feeling sick and then it all settles again. Had a little cry last night as it's so frustrating not being able to do anything to sort it. Seem to be getting braxton hicks alllll the time now as well which is very uncomfortable! But, as Daisy said, must try and enjoy the last weeks of pregnancy! I'll def miss the bump when it's gone :)

That curry sounds lush!

What's your induction date OE?!

Tapatalking!

Aw, PP! I hope you feel better soon!

I've not been to the hospital yet! My appointment is at half one, so I should know this afternoon :)

Congrats Daisy!! I'm glad all is well hun <3

I just had my growth scan and they recon she is 6lb 3oz already, not even 34 weeks yet. They should have listened when I told them I wasn't well :( x just waiting to see the consultant now xxx

Hugs to all xxxx

Does that mean she is big, Tots? I'm rubbish at knowing what is normal and what isn't. But just remember they are never 100% accurate!

Got my induction date! The 18th. He is currently 7lbs and 13oz. So he is going to be a smidge on the large side.

I am excited and petrified all at the same time!

She's massive, 100th centile on normal charts, just below top line on my customised one. They have said I can still try a vbac but they won't leave me more than 38 weeks. They have told me they will use a balloon inserted through my foof to dilate the cervix, is sounds ruddy painful in all honesty! Xx

I should get my induction date on Tuesday next week when I have to go see the diabetes team x congrats on having your date hun you must be really excited :D xxxx

Awww LYL, try not to worry too much, so many ladies have said how far out these weight estimates often are. I can understand you must be quite frustrated though seeing as how you knew something was up for such a long time and they didn't listen. At least they know now, so you can be prepared and bubs will get here safe and sound

OE - so that's 10 days to go!! How exciting :)

xxx

Tapatalking!
