SPD Support Thread

U will be happy to know that it does clear up after u have had the baby. Granted my spd was never as bad as u ladies, and I do feel for u :hugs: my spd disappeared straight away, my waddling is worse now though because of my c section so still look stupid, but I'm not in any pain from my hips. xx

Aww Kanga thats good to know!

At the minute I would settle for 1 (yes just 1) night pain free so I can get some sleep.

Is anyone else getting bad cramps in their legs and feet? I don't know if its from SPD, or from not being very mobile or what. .. but thats one of my biggest problems - as it causes me to shift around more, causing more pain. My DH tried to massage them (under duress of course) but they are so painful to touch I'm literally screaming into the pillow.

I did mention this to my physio - and she suggested the massage (before I knew how painful it would be) and to rotate my ankles before bed

I just get brief cramps in my feet and calves at night but nothing like as painful as what you're describing. Are they swollen? If they are swollen I suggest doing a lymph gland massage. You use two fingers sitting down and massage a lumpy bit at the very top/inside of your thighs. It helps get fluid moving and can stop the swelling. Also try sleeping with your legs at a slight incline if you can (you'd probably be better in a v-shape, head propped up and feet propped up so there's no pressure on your organs from bump). These are things that have been suggested to me by an off-duty midwife xx

They aren't swollen at all, I didn't realise how painful they are till DH tried to massage them for me - he says it feels like they are full of knots?

But I get shooting pains up and down my legs and into the soles of my feet all day and all night ... its infuriating!

Iwill try raising them during the day to see if it helps - thanks chick x

God I had such a rough night last night - every day I'm surprised that the pain can get worse! You think I'd have learned by now.

My hips are like bubblewrap!

Not getting cramps as such, but do get awful pains in my thighs. As for sleeping lucky if i get 4-5hrs a night. i find myself dropping off thru the day on the sofa or pc chair. My mum bless her is doing her best running around after me, but it doesnt feel right. here i am with a car, barely able to drive and my mum is having to jump on 2buses to help me. I hate SPD its ruining everything, and now with it taking away driving too, its really getting to me.

Hope you are all as well as can be ladies

X

I actually got my driving ability back, after really struggling with the pain for a while. I don't know if it's because I've stopped doing journeys that are anything over ten minutes (used to be 25 minutes to my work) and also I've started leaving my left foot on the clutch pedal instead of moving it off like you're supposed to. Means less strain on my joints. I'm driving not too badly now even though it does wear me out more than it should obviously.
It's just night times in bed and any walking over say 50 metres that is hell on earth for me. Using my crutches stops me getting as stiff and exhausted, but doesn't really change the pain much. Baths and muscle soak are my saviour, even though it hurts getting in and out.
I'm hoping for a baby to appear next week so I can feel normal again :p xx

I stopped driving about 3 weeks ago as it was causing me too much pain, but had to pick family up from airport the other day and it near killed me.

I don't get good days and bad days I get bad days and worse days :wall2: Last night was the worst by a long shot!

I physically can't walk without crutches, my legs buckle otherwise

Had my consultant appointment yesterday to discuss delivery and options to try and prevent me from going over. The doctor I saw was really nice, he explained its the hospitals policy to try and avoid induction unless absolutely necessary as if me and baby aren't ready there is a high risk it could end in c-section, particularly as its my first baby. So the plan at the moment is an early sweep at 39 weeks and hope it encourages LO to get a wriggle on! Xx

Oh thats good news Mrs_bump!

I keep wondering what they will say to me, as I really don't want to go over either - but I don't want an induction or a c-section either.

My sister was 2 weeks early with her LO, and my mum was early with all of us, so I'm hoping that peanut gives mammy a break and ends the shenanigans sooner rather than later! Given how he/she has behaved the whole pregnancy I'll be like 50 weeks pregnant before I give birth

I feel like I've been pregnant for 50 weeks already!!! :(

Not getting a lot of sleep at the moment, and when LO is lying low it feels like she's kicking my pubic bone which is excruciating - I'm starting to feel so low with it now I can't do anything :( And I'm so sick of being told 'it'll be worth it' or 'you've only got another 17 weeks to go' - I know this but it doesn't help!

Aww hun I know exactly how you feel I tend to wake every 15/30 minutes durin the night it's rubbish :hugs:

I get days where I think I can't do it anymore but just keep plodding along

Are you still working?

Please excuse any typos from my fat fingers!
Tapatalk madness!

My effing knee is really hurting! :censored:

Will I ever get a bloody break?!

I can't figure out if its cos my hips are fooked - as its all connected, or if now I just have a stupid knee!

I'm at my wits end today :wall:

I've found my knees clicking more often, and my wrists too. It's the excess hormone loosening all our joints, it's just our pelvises that get it worst. I can't remember tweetyfoo, do you know what the cause of your spd is? I know mine is hypermobility (excessive extension of joints) because I have a weird I-can-bend-my-elbows-backwards thing, and I know it can affect all joints. My knees sometimes jar out of place for no reason xx

They never said what the cause is. I've always had "clicky joints" but I just assumed the cause was the hormones?

I also have a back injury - I don't know if thats got anything to do with the price of fish? I'm now immobile for the 2nd time in 2 years through no fault of my own :wall:

Sorry I'm angry at the world today! All I want is to be happy and shiny with the pregnancy glow

Clicky joints could be hypermobility, or just loose ligaments in general or something. I also have a back injury... Maybe they are connected (SPD and back injury, not our back injuries!!) xx

Thanks tweetyfoo, when do you see your consultant? I'm hoping I may not need that and LO may make an appearance before that as both me and my brother were born at 39 weeks so I'm hoping LO makes the decision to arrive a little early.

In a bad mood this morning as had a bad night last night and my right wrist is really hurting, don't know if its from using the crutches or constantly pulling/pushing at things to stand up/sit down x

Hi Leesey, my physio said the caused of my SPD was hypermobility, when she looked at me when I was standing my knees and elbows bend slightly backwards. She also said that people who are very flexible (often because of the hypermobility) can be badly affected and I was a gymnast for many years xx

I also had a back injury, wonder if there is a link with this? My friend is a midwife and she said they had a lady at work who had really bad SPD and she had been in a car accident and had back/pelvic injuries, so maybe? xx
