SPD Support Thread

Oh chook! Did you manage to get back to sleep at all?

Is anyone having pain when they go to the loo or when they are a bit bloated? I don't know if it's the process of sitting down on the loo or just baby moving once I've been. I guess the pain when I'm bloated is just because everything is getting more cramped for space?!?

Have checked my company policy and it looks like they pay over and above SSP for 10 weeks (full pay for 6 weeks, and half pay for 4 weeks) which would take me up to the end of Sept, which is when I was going to leave anyway! So if physio mentions being signed off again I'm gonna go for it - I can't do this anymore!!

Wishing you all as pain free a day as possible xx

tweetyfoo, sounds like a bad night :( Hope you managed to get some rest in the end.

Eating is what gets me, I get very uncomfortable when I eat anything, I feel like both my shoulders have blown up and my hips and pelvis go into spasm and seem to slip about worse than usual.

I'm really struggling with food/eating/weight. I can't move about, I've tried forcing walking, but it makes me worse and worse and not better, I get to the point of being unable to move at all, so exercise is out. I'm putting on weight because I'm not doing anything, then on bad days I'm struggling to have anything to eat at all. So I end up scoffing on good days, not eating at all on bad days and barely moving about. My poor baby and poor metabolism!

Money is a real headache for us. I'm self employed and unable to work, so I'm not bringing anything in, yet I can't claim MA until 29 weeks I think! So we are broke on top of everything else.

Awww tweety i hope you manage to grab some sleep.

Willow i understand the money problems, I know in some cases you can take maternity leave 15 wks before your due date, instead of 11wks before DD. So look into it.

1stbump only problem i have is i cant eat as much as i want, lol not enough stomach and too much baby i think. Oh and getting up off the toilet is painful.

Hope you are all as well as can be ladies. x

Hey ladies i finally passed out about 6:30

Still in a lot of pain though

I find when I have a full bladder (apparently all the time) it's really painful ... Or if I'm constipated (yip all the time
Too) I'm the same

Any movement hurts me ... I spend all day reclining on a bed as its the most comfort I can get.

Hoping you all have a good day x

So its 3:52am

I've been to sleep ... but the pain in my left hip and my right groin has woken me up, its so bad I want to scream into
my pillow.

This is what the midwives, GP's and physios need to see ... this is ridiculous!

This is the problem, they don't see us at our worst, I feel the same way - they only get a snapshot of our day.

So my occ health from work phoned today. I was advised that everyone suffers "pains and niggles" in pregnancy and that I need to learn to manage the pain so that I can possibly return to work :wall2:

Fucks me right off that people don't get it ... This isn't like having a ******* headache ... This is like having two dislocated hips and a hot poker in your foof!

Don't let them bully you, they also can't override your consultant or GP. If your GP signs you off there is sod all they can do other than try and bully you back.

Sorry you've had this on top of a pants nights sleep :hugs:

That's awful! How dare they say something like that?!? As WillowWisp said I'm pretty sure an Occ health has no rights to over-ride a GP/Consultant - if you've been signed off sick then that's it!!
To compare SPD to normal pain/niggles is just insulting!

How the hell do you manage the pain?? Paracetamol doesn't even touch the pain - what are they suggesting?? If they can come up with an answer then I'd like to hear it! Much as I hate my job, I'd rather be pain-free and working than in pain and laid up!! Barstewards!!

thats just shocking Tweety, How the hell can they expect you to manage the pain better!!!! I'm afraid i would have given them a piece of my mind on the phone telling them exactly how bad the pain is, how its affecting day to day life. They cant overrule your consultant/Gp.

I hope you get this sorted with work hun,

BIG hugs x

That's awful tweety, don't let them bully you, I had a similar problem with work over a non pregnancy related illness a couple of years ago. If your gp/consultant has signed you off suck then there is nothing they can do about it :)
Well last night was my last night so far, actually thought my right hip was dislocated, must have managed about 3 hours sleep and am cream crackered today! Xx

I know they don't have a leg to stand on ... I've been through this with them before (non-pregnancy related), unfortunately to them I'm just a number

It just infuriates me, the woman that is dealing with me is all but useless and talks to me like I'm stupid and makes me doubt myself. She makes me think that I'm maybe not as bad as I think it is.

18 months ago I had a serious accident and injured my back, she told me to take Ibuprofen (against medical advice as I have asthma) baring in mind I was on tramadol and it wasn't touching the sides. I couldn't walk or even wash myself - but she assured me that there was nothing seriously wrong with my back. I nearly believed her .. until I pushed for an MRI and discovered that I have 2 prolapsed discs in my lower back - one is pressing on my sciatic nerve.

She makes me think that I'm maybe not as bad as I think it is.

I'm so sick of people doing this. Do NOT let anyone bully you into thinking you are wrong. This is very real and very life-changing. Your back injury was very real and very life-changing. It really bugs me how some people can be so narrow minded and not possibly think for one minute that they really have no clue what they're talking about. Stick to your guns hon, fight it all the way xx

Its just shocking, may be if they had to live with the pain then maybe they would be more understanding.

Im just playing a waiting game atm. Had my 24wks appointment and midwife didnt really offer any advice or support on spd and i got my mat b1 too. Ive taken that in to my office, and my care co-coordinator doesnt think i should start my maternity leave just yet. I have a dr's appointment on Monday to see if theres anything different I can take for pain and if he's going to give another sick note or tell me to take early mat leave. Other than that little Spencer is active, gave the midwife a big kick lol and its growing fine with a good strong heart beat.

Hope you ladies are ok. x

You can only start your maternity leave from 10/11 weeks before your due date xx

How are you holding up Leesey? Any improvement?

Today's been bearable, mostly just my back hurting me today and my knees clicking but compared to usual it's great! I'm just appreciating it as much as I can cos no doubt tomorrow will be back to the usual stiff, shuffling around in agony routine!

Got consultant again tomorrow and I'm hoping beyond hope that it's my normal consultant and she'll have more positive things to say than that locum last week. At least now I have the physio appointment behind me and I can say that she says there's nothing more can be done to ease my pain.

I think because it's so close to my due date, my first choice would be a sweep if my cervix is ready for that, because I'd obviously still want to go as naturally as possible. If they offered induction or discussed c-section (unlikely considering I'm so close anyway) I'd be happy to consider them, despite the higher risks and pain factor.

Hope everyone is coping ok xx

Good to hear :hugs:

It must be the day for it because I've been much better today after the day from hell yesterday.

Good luck with the consultant, I hope they are more constructive for you!

Hope you get somewhere with the consultant tomorrow Leesey xx
